first things first. i ant to say how happy i am that this title wasnt taken.

EDIT: just saw a spoiler and i now have to say that i am officially actually really excited for the episode. i would have this deleted, but i feel this topic should continue

I know a lot of people are concerned with the direction the show is headed. with the apparent loss of lessons each episode, and letters to celestia. and the alicorn-ification (yeah, i made that word up) of twilight, and the (possible?) elimination of derpy hooves. bronies are finding it more and more worrying. and are questioning the writers a little more with the passing of each day.

i am wondering if i am the only one who is over-analyzing this as i keep noticing things and trying to understand them.

left and right you see people on about Hasbro "show conspiracy" type theories. threats to leave the fanbase and more. while many are outraged some are attempting to keep calm head about it. the outcome would be the slowly, seemingly trending phrase, being, "trust the writers" any of you more than just "casual" bronies have probably heard this. now, i liked this phrase and decided to trust in it but slowly i am losing faith. i feel the original essence of the show is lost. or getting close.  certain things that caused this show to have such a spectacular impact in the first place seem to no longer be around. why? i have no bucking idea. i wish i knew.

either way i am  hoping to be more impressed in season four.

who knows? maybe I'm just being paranoid. but do they realize how important it was to:

-keep the theme of the "letters to celestia"

-not turn twilight into an alicorn, or to at least wait a few more seasons.

-stay with the random songs from pinkie

-is it just me, or was having a double episode at the beginning and end sort like a tradition?

-keep derpy

-and more.

these things were entertaining and a big deal. i at first thought that the people who were blaming Hasbro 110% were over-reacting. i mean, you start a show to help make money. you expect a small selective audience and instead you get a flank load of people. a mindblowing amount. most companies would fully take advantage of this. and bend over backwards to keep this fanbase. thats only sensible. right? right??

i dont understand what they're playing at. but as time goes on i, personally find it extremely hard to "trust the writers" i dont care if it's Hasbro or the writers. either the writers aren't doing anything for us, whether its their choice or not.

-keep the theme of the "letters to celestia"

I personally didn't like that too much for some of the episodes. Made it slightly awkward and felt pretty unnecessary; maybe they picked up on it and are becoming very conservative with the letters is all.

-is it just me, or was having a double episode at the beginning and end sort like a tradition?

Now that's a working formula -- especially with season two, which turned out to be fantastic in regards to portraying Discord's character in the premiere and Chrysalis' underlying plot (no innuendo...) in the second part of the season finale. It's been lacking in season three to be honest, however. Having 13 episodes to work with will probably do that, though.

not turn twilight into an alicorn, or to at least wait a few more seasons.

I doubt the transformation will be permanent, so it's best to just get the idea out of the way and not worry about it later. Since the Alicorn transformation itself is limited, the risk of the writers taking heat for it is minimized -- M.A. Larson does a fantastic job at incorporating these sorts of ideas and executing them beautifully. In Larson we trust!

I think the writers are now Hasbro controlled, like puppets on a string thanks to hasbro's involvement with season four now a days. Just say'n. So I don't think they can do too much now thanks to the company.

Look the writers are forced to do what Hasbro says. They got word from the higher ups to do Alicorn Twilight. So in essence they are trying to do good on a crapy situation which they had no say in.

I think they will pull it of though. I mean it's not the first time thy had to do something like this. Princess Cadence and Shining Armor where a result of Hasbro wanting to sell toys. And in my opinion that turned out all right.

In short the writers are doing their best to turn a crappy situation into an okay one.

I think that everyone is freaking out about this Alicorn thing. Okay, yeah, it might not have been the best choice... But some people are freaking out about this waay to much. I mean, these writers have given us excellent episodes before. We don't have the right to judge the episode before it comes out. Some people are saying this is gonna ruin the show, which is completely ridiculous. First off, the writers didn't really even get to say anything. They don't have the choice on what to do. Second, they have dealt with this situation before. Look at the Shining Armour and Cadence situation. That was for the exact same reason. As @@Phoenix237, said, they handled that  very well. That's now one of my favourite episodes! So... people need to chill the hell out.

i sorta trust the writers. i guess its not the writers i dont trust. i just feel like it was really bad luck for them to get a new writer and have hasbro crack down on them at the same time. resulting in some shaky outcomes

I think people just care for the show so much they don't want to see the writers accidentally throw anything about it away, and I can sympathize.

I think for the most part S3 has been pretty good overall, its had some differences overall to it for sure, but its been a good season regardless, and I'm hoping that S4 is even better.

Also the Alicorn thing has been pretty much more or less confirmed as happening, and its almost been confirmed to being permanent, but of course I'm personally still holding on to the though that it will be temporary.

Regardless we don't really have much of a choice, we either trust the writers or not, but the show isn't going to change direction regardless.

I'm trying my best to stay optimistic, and I'm already kinda a pessimistic person alot of times.

I think we're all just worried the show is going to lose that charm it has. So there worried, I think its a justified worry, but worrying overall won't do anything. We just have to wait and see how things go. And hope it goes to furthering and improving the show.

I trust the writers because, since they write the scripts and all the episodes that we know and love. Even though, Faust moved on to other projects we can still trust the writers since they are in charge of the show. Pretty much, you need to lose something to gain something else.

I never really thought of any of the Twilicorn, or a lot of the other things to be too much of a big deal, except Derpy seeing as she is one of my favorite ponies. But excluding Derpy (which was more an external case as it was brought about by a lawsuit) you could argue that the entire existence of the Brony Fandom is a result of us trusting the writers even though they had a "tough sell". Let's be honest, I doubt a vast majority of Bronies, before FIM started, believed that any amount of writing could convince them that they could seriously like a show about magical talking ponies learning the value of friendship, and yet they pulled it off.

So in the case of the whole Twilicorn thing, I really don't see it as a big deal. The writers have been able to impress us in more amazing ways (such as the one listed above) before, and I don't see any reason that we should default to the position that "they have ruined everything!" (at least, not before we have seen it) because past experience tells me that there is no reason to go with that position, and no reason to do so now.

Oh, I trust the writers. Specially since they've proven to be really competent despite Hasbro throwing shit in the way. Makeing something like a wedding episode into epicness? Yup, great writting right there.

It's Hasbro many, myself included, do not trust.

that was so well put that you make me want to delete what i put at the beginning and put this there instead. what i said at the beginning may have come off as angry. but at the most im confused/slightly frustrated. but im not actually blaming anyone. you gotta do what you gotta do.

kudos, again. very nicely stated.

not that this is important. just wanted to let you know that a different writer made the wedding as badass (am i allowed to say that?) as it is now. i guess the princess coronation will be the "big test" for the new writers.

Meghan McCarthy wrote "A Canterlot Wedding", she is the head writer for this season. All episodes basically go through her before they're given the final okay. M.A. Larson wrote this season finale. But it had to go through Meghan.

Both Larson and Meghan are pretty good writers, so the episode will still be good most likely despite Hasbro forcing the Twilicorn thing.  C'mon, the Mane Six switching Cutie Marks. That's bound to be amusing atleast!

As far as I'm concerned, rock bottom was already hit. So there's nothing left to worry about. The whole alicornization thing could fail and fail hard, and I'd still be unfazed. Since I don't expect it to be all that bad, I'm kind of looking forward to it.

Well I thought Hasbro was pretty cool at first. As an accounting major, I understand that it's the goal of a corporation to maximize the wealth of its shareholders but I thought Hasbro was alright since they weren't being super uptight with some of their stuff. But now with the whole Mane6 thing, I feel like they sorta launched a direct attack on their own fan base. Now sure, I understand that we're fans of MLP (and maybe a couple other shows) but Hasbro owns MLP and as such, that's where the buck stops. Anyway, after that, I don't really trust Hasbro at all (not that I really did to begin with). But the writers? I feel like we can trust those guys. I mean, when the Mane6 team got their C&D letter, Lauren Faust herself offered to make some original characters for the game (https://twitter.com/Fyre_flye/status/300098640150687744). She even offered her sympathies to the team and such. I think the writers and creators of the show are to be trusted. I'm talking about Faust, Larson, Thiessan, Wootton, and so forth. But Hasbro? No. Never trust a corporation. In business school, they beat it into your mind: the ultimate goal of the corporation is to maximize stock price through the maximization of shareholder wealth. They'll probably lose a few fans over this, but they likely won't be losing any sleep over it.

It is not writers I don't trust it is Hasbro I am worried about, yes the writers have done a great job and for the most part Hasbro has let them do their thing but the whole Twilight alicorn situation seems extremely abrupt and was obviously not the writers idea. Sure there have been some other interventions by Hasbro but none of them have as many lasting implications on the direction of the show as this does. I am not saying the writers can't somehow make it work but at the end of the day it is Hasbro that is calling the shots here, I just hope they have enough common sense to let the writers somehow make this abrupt and unjustified change actually work out.

My faith in the writers is eclipsed by my lack of faith in Hasbro these days.

And thinking about it a bit more now, I'm not even 100% sure of my faith in the wirters.  I'd be much more sure if A) this season hasn't been the most inconsistent yet (there are some great episodes, but some really bad ones too) and B) the handling of Discord.

While I have revised my stance on Keep Calm and Flutter On from finding it to be absolute garbage to merely just not liking it, it still stands to me as a poorly set up episode and a situation where, at least in my opinion, the people who were freaking out proved to be at least partially right.  So this proves to me that the writers' track record is not 100% and they aren't going to make lemonade out of every lemon.

Hasbro has been constantly ruining My Little Pony shows since G1. if anyone remembers the MLP Movie with the Smooze, they created a Paradise Estate for the ponies and gave the castle to the grundles. they also created a new line of ponies called the flutter ponies just to sell more toys. ultimately its not the writers who have a choice in all of this. Hasbro has been trying to control MLP since the beginning, the only difference is now people care about the integrity of the show.

It would be wise for Hasbro to listen to Bronys, after all, that's part of the reason MLP:FIM is so popular.

Personally, I've always thought of season 3 as a bit of an extra while we wait for the bigger things in season 4 to start happening, and season 3 is simply setting us up for that. Perhaps a new villain will appear and the regal sisters need another princess to help them in anticipation of his/her arrival before things return to normal again. I never really thought of season 3 as part of the main storyline in the way seasons 1 and 2 have been, so I'm rather optimistic about that at least. And the writers have always done really well even in the harsher times, like the Canterlot Wedding as someone here mentioned. Even I think that's one of the best episodes in the series.
