I just think that she isn't going to be the Twilight we all know and love. I hope this change was in a dream or perhaps maybe temporary. I don't know, I just think she isn't going to be the Twilight we used to know, and I also think she is going to abandon her friends on a doorstep (Portal reference.) Perhaps, in season four she asks Celestia if she could turn back into a unicorn and become the real Twilight (possibility's are slim, but heck, I'd love to see that happen.)  I don't know, I just can't handle the reality of my 3rd favorite pony turning into a alicorn.

i already saw this coming from the moment i watched Episode 1 Season 1 and i believe its a correct way of doing things as it gives a certain feel that an ordinary girl (although twilight isnt ordinary) can become a princess

Do I hate Twilight? No. Do I like what's happened to her? No, but I accept it.

What makes me dislike all of it is the idea of "ascensions" and the marketing power it gives to Hasbro.  It gives them the ability to arbitrarily turn whatever pony they want into a princess, have the writers give em a backstory to make it sound "legit," and then proceed to market a toy towards it.  I truly, TRULY loved the balance that was struck between a show for pure product and a story driven cartoon, a "good" story driven cartoon mind you.  Just couldn't feel anything but disgust as MMC aired, then I saw this like buffet of "Pretty, Pretty Princess Twilight Sparkle" that was shoved onto the masses like Hasbro was hemorraging money and needed to act as a bandaid to plug the cracks of the dam.

With alicorns, they were unique if it just remaind Celestia and Luna.  Hell, I was one of the few who didn't mind Cadence because she had little to no backstory.  Now, Alicorns are just some product device to shove onto the kiddies.  My understanding of Hasbro's logic regarding alicorns is this, "Alicorns are special because they embody earth, pegasus, and unicorn ponies into one.  All little girls are daddy's/mommy's "special" little kid.  Thus, it should be said that little girls are equatable to Alicorns because they want to be princesses and be special."

Said it numerous before, what I truly expect to see in S4 is an "Island of Princesses" where there are indeed 53 alicorns: Aliscira.  McCarthy's statement was more than likely in jest, but I am extremely trepidatious of what she says right now.  Comments being good, bad, or inbetween.  Also, at this point in time, I say just make the rest of the mane6 alicorns and screw their "destinies" that they've chosen.  Just make them princesses, give em their prince charmings, and just have it happen to sell the toys.

(edited)

I'm pulling for Alicorn Twilight.  Something that could fill me with so much joy and emotion in such little time has got to be good.  Seriously, at the last few minutes I was freaking out.  I called her becoming an alicorn too ^^ I was so happy.  This opens a whole new window for the show.  I can't wait to see Princess Twilight in action.  Her kingdom shall be Ponyville!!! lol

I feel an odd sensation when I see people saying this can't lead to anything good.  It hurts my brain trying to think of how that statement might hold true.  I think it was a sweet ending, a good opening for S4, and an amazing plot twist.

I wouldn't say it was ATROCIOUS... But really really reallyreally... REALLY bad might work. Let's face it, M.A. Larson did not write that episode, Daniel Ingram did. It was almost nothing but song! And not particularly catchy ones either. Sure, the Celestia signing thing was cool, and that first Cutie Mark song, but... Other than that? It was pretty bad.

I also just HATE the Twilicorn thing. It's pointless.

So, if had worked for many years under your 'boss'' (Celestia in this case) orders for most of your life, worked until it almost took over your life, get moved from town to town and not expect a reward for your services? I support Twilicorn all the way, because she deserves it. I do wonder how they will continue on the show as Princess Twilight living in Ponyville-a country town-but they have made a whole new series, and I can't wait until November to see it!

But is it really a 'reward'? She got wings which has caused her nothing but trouble so far and q whole heap of new responsibilities. It's like if my boss congratulated me on my hard work and then said, "guess what! You're CEO! Congratulations!" I would tell them to f*** off.

I love unicorn Twilight and now it's weird and maybe a little unpleasantly to see her as an alicorn.

Also I afraid that after she became a princess she will spend less time with friends.

Every advantage has a disadvantage. Sure wings would be troublesome at first. but after she figures out how to live with them and become a skilled flyer it would sound like a reward for her efforts.

How much more lame would it be if all she had to do is eat some magic mushrooms? No offense to Mario fans...

I don't think the following is likely but I felt like throwing it out there for the hay of it. Perhaps to restore balance there could be another unicorn addition to the group. however I think it would be more entertaining for Spike to get a dragon lady friend.

I find it ironic that we often cause what we fear will happen. Just look at Anakin Skywalker!

Although the entire show so far has only featured Twilight as a pegasus pony, I think that if the director didn't know what he was doing, he wouldn't have chanced getting all the fans angry. Only time will tell whether or not it was a good decision.

At first I was kinda mad. But after a little bit of time passed, I honestly didn't really care at all. She was already the leader. Might as well make her stand out a bit more. But the problem there too is now she diminishes the rest of the Mane 6. There are good and bad points about it but as long as it doesn't become MLP Twilight Is A God with every episode being about Twilight, I'm fine.

And to add on to my previous comment I don't want Twilight to always be the one solving the problems and being the big hero. If that were the case Elements of Harmony and each ponies special powers/abilities would be completely pointless.

I don't necessarily like alicorn Twilight, but I figured it would eventually happen. I just wish they would have waited till the end of S4 at the very earliest, I believe the writers still had another full season *at least* before needing to introduce a major plot device for new content to work with.

I approve Twilight's promotion to alicorn. i mean, she was pretty much a prodigy child, so of course she gets all the coolest things. yeah, it's gonna take awhile to get used to, but still. it is her destiny. my main "concern," if that's even an appropriate word to use here, is what's going to happen to the mayor? is twilight going to be like the royalty of england, just being a figurehead? or will she rule equestria as the primary force? will she and the mayor both rule with relative equality regarding governing ponyville?

...either that or maybe i'm just being over-annalytical about this.

The show is just becoming all about Twilight solving everyone's problems, and this just solidifies that more and more. She's already becoming quite the Mary-Sue compared to the rest of the mane 6 (look at how she's the only one who did anything in Crystal Empire, Magical Mystery Cure, and Equestria Girls).

By making her more of a central point in the show than she already is, it actually makes me like her and the show significantly less. Nobody else was appreciated nearly as much as she was in season 3, and that really hurt the show. Plus, if they claim "nothing's going to change" then why did they have to make the change at all?

It's indifferent to me. Twilight is Twilight. As long as they don't go crazy with it, then I'm fine with it. So, specifically, as long as twilight remains as equal to the other mane six as before, I won't mind.

Actually aside from the premier, Magic Duel and the finale season 3 had very little to actually do with alicorn Twilight and didn't have Twilight get anymore screen time than she had in season 1&2. I think the two ponies that season 3 was the kindest to were Applejack and Rainbow Dash which as a longtime Applejack fan made me quite pleased and really made me start to see just how awesome Rainbow Dash is. You do have a point about Twilight being the center of attention in MMC and Equestria Girls though, I can forgive this with Equestria Girls somewhat because at least unlike MMC was actually good. For Crystal empire the other mane 6 though they didn't defeat Sombra did keep the local from panicking so I am 50/50 on that one. One of my main concerns with twilicorn was that Twilight would be so stupidly overpowered that she would overshadow everypony else and become a Mary Sue. Though I think there is still a risk of that I am far more optimistic now than I was before, we will just have to see where they go with this in season 4. If they play this right there will be a lot of focus on Twilight but she will also need her friends more than ever before, they just have to stop making the mistakes they already made.

ever since the beginning of season 3, i saw it coming. and i think a lot of bronies did too. I don't have any problem with it at all. in my opinion it just opens up more doors for the characters evolution and the plot.

I think this will happen. but i also think that there is going to be an episode based around this, with twilight realizing that she needs to spend time with her friends and live her life. it does make a good friendship lesson that mlp is prone to.

Nobody else was appreciated nearly as much as she was in season 3, and that really hurt the show. Plus, if they claim "nothing's going to change" then why did they have to make the change at all?

This, I don't understand. Twilight solving everyone's problems? How much did she do that in season 3? The Crystal Empire, while it was decently focused on her, ended with Spike being the real hero. Too Many Pinkie Pies did have Twilight majorly helping in the end, but that is because she has the magical ability to do what she did. That episode obviously focused on Pinkie. One Bad Apple, no major Twilight focus. Magic Duel, Twilight focused. Sleepless in Ponyville had NO Twilight. Wonderbolt Academy, no major Twilight focus at all. Just for Sidekicks, no major Twilight focus at all. Apple Family Reunion, if I recall correctly, there was no Twilight here. Spike at your service, there was Twilight but no major focus and she did not resolve the end, Keep Calm and Flutter on, no major Twilight focus, Games Ponies Play, the focus was on all of the Mane 6 here, and MMC, obvious.

As you can see, they did not just focus on Twilight entirely in season 3. Yes, she had her spotlights but so did the other characters. Even then, lets not forget that technically Twilight IS the mane character out of the 6, she was the original focal point for the show. Then there is Equestria Girls of course, but it made sense with the plot and it is non-canon after all.

Also, this argument about Mary Sueness is getting old. One, we have seen nothing that she is going to be overpowered beyond belief and two, wasn't Twilight ALREADY overpowered? Given that she was one of the most talented unicorns in Equestria, she obviously has something above the rest already. Plus, most powerful element of harmony ring any bells?

I know that they may focus on Twilight quite hardcore at the beginning of season 4, but as long as they can establish the princess thing well, it could work just fine. They obviously are tackling other subjects that are not Twilight focused as seen in the animatics so I do not have the same worry. I see Twilicorn as a great thing as I have said before, so I have confidence that they can do good things with it. I see nothing but a bright future for the show and Twilicorn makes me look forward to it even more, thanks to the newly opened doors of opportunity. :) I want to see the character advance and actually achieve things that stick, this is a great example. From the looks of the animatics, they are actually taking this approach and not the doing the cheap kids show tactic and backing out. This makes me incredibly happy. (If they would have done that, that would have been the show breaker for me)

I am nothing but excited at this point.

I like alicorn twilight but, it does make me wander what's to come in season 4 for her. Just how much will she be interacting with the mane 6? I say that because I assume that they are going to have to put a lot more twilight specific episodes in there. Im wandering if it will take away from the other characters as well.

Well.... I do and I don't.

She will probably have to live in the castle and leave her friends.

Her friends will probably treat her differently.

And I shouldn't worry about this now, but she'll obviously outlive her friends.

That's all I worry about with Twilicorn.
