HOi i'm tEMMIE 178 March 22, 2013 Share March 22, 2013 We all know that this show can get dark at times. Now I want to hear your opinions on what you thought was the darkest moment of the show. I think the darkest moment would probably be either pinkie's break down in Party of One. (And no not because of cupcakes, even before I read that I thought it was a legit scary moment) or Sombra exploding. Just.. that face is pretty creepy 2 Hoi!!! i'm tEMMIE!!! Reani 176 March 22, 2013 Share March 22, 2013 I don't think its dark (well kinda but I don't know), but I do recall a funeral in Ponyville in one of the episodes. Pretty cool too (not cool as in that somepony died). It's shows that, even in the happy, sunshine world of My Little Pony, there is still the circle of life and death, the inevitable appointment with Death itself. 2 No matter how much you try.... you can never hit that f***ing dog from Duck Hunt. PrymeStriker 408 March 22, 2013 Share March 22, 2013 (edited) I think one of the darkest moments in the show was during The Crystal Empire, Part 1. Specifically, this part of the episode was as dark as this show could get: Edited March 22, 2013 by PrymeStriker
Circadian 1,273 March 22, 2013 Share March 22, 2013 For me the darkest moment in the show was during the pilot. You can like barely see anything it's so dark. I can't believe the let it go on the air!
Orablanco Account 3,707 March 22, 2013 Share March 22, 2013 The slavery shot in Crystal Empire is probably the darkest, though that really uncomfortable scene in Ponyville Confidential where every adult in town ostracize three little girls is pretty messed up. If we included the comics, then Darkest Moment goes to the Kitten Genocide scenes, hands down. 6 Onwards to my DeviantArt page! Sig by the illustrious Kyoshi! Pony Of The Month 534 March 22, 2013 Share March 22, 2013 For me, it was the cliffhanger of A Canterlot Wedding Part 1 where it looks like Cadence killed Twilight Sparkle. Imagine the fandom's reaction if Part 2 didn't premiere until the next week. Imagine the target demographic's reaction. And The Pony Of The Month Is: Princess Celestia! duidamasterXD 9,627 March 22, 2013 Share March 22, 2013 (edited) Because psychological horror and the idea of going insane has always freaked me out, I might say Pinkie's breakdown in Party of One, Twilight losing it in Lesson Zero, and Discord breaking the Mane Six in The Return of Harmony. However, after reading a fanfic I realized that the test scene of Too Many Pinkie Pies could be up there. Regardless of how you feel about the Pinkie clones and their fate, from Pinkie's perspective sitting there while your friend is essentially killing copies of you could be serious therapy material. Goodness. Also, humanizing that scene makes it all the more creepy. Edited March 22, 2013 by DashForever
Just some guy 1,070 March 22, 2013 Share March 22, 2013 I personally think the whole elimination process of all the Pinkie clones in Too Many Pinkie Pies is the darkest moment in the show for me. In addition to DashForever's comments about the psychological trauma it could've caused to Pinkie to see one of her best friends casually killing clones of herself,Twilight also just murdered a bunch of sentient individuals. Think about it.They're all sentient beings with their own thoughts.Sure, they are carbon copies of Pinkie, but the second they are brought into existence, they begin to have their own thoughts, their own experiences.Hell, they even had a hard time remembering who was who out of the Mane 6,so this not only further proves that they have individuality in their thoughts, but memories as well.By all means, they are fully sentient beings who are capable of living their own lives. And what does Twilight do in order to "save" her friend? She herds the clones like sheep and mercilessly vaporizes those who do not act exactly like Pinkie Pie would. That's not even including the possibility of Twilight vaporizing the real Pinkie Pie herself. Then it becomes even more messed up when you realize that the requirement for not being vaporized is what Twilight thinks Pinkie would do in the situation they put Pinkie and her clones in,not what Pinkie woud actually do.What if the real Pinkie had actually made the G3.5 face?Sure,it's a bloody atrocity to do that, but the point is that she got vaporized by one of her best friends for being herself. And if she did survive, well,DashForever covered that point already.
SongBrony 419 March 22, 2013 Share March 22, 2013 The part where twilight gets sucked into pony hell in the season two finale. Or maybe Sombra having slaves. Honestly, S2 finale and S3 premier were both really dark
hawkflame 3,310 March 22, 2013 Share March 22, 2013 Pinkie's breakdown in Party of One creeped me out. Pinkie's eyes derping slowly, the intermittent spasms, the creepy music and surreal backgrounds... And then hearing voices from inanimate objects? When she hears imaginary voices telling her that her friends are losers and should no longer be her friends... that's just a step away from telling her her friends are losers and she should *kill them*. And then of course who has to come in right there, but Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash being alone in a room with a crazy and unstable Pinkie Pie? Sounds familiar... Closest thing to Nightmare Fuel yet in the series. Sig by Thunderstorm Check out my Rarity fansite!
Sir.Flutter Hooves 2,953 March 22, 2013 Share March 22, 2013 Screwloose. The mentally crazy pony that barks like a dog chasing RD. I mean, it's a mental patient! That's not in kid's cartoons! SCS 7,513 March 22, 2013 Share March 22, 2013 For me, the darkest part in the show was when five of the mane six almost died in The Wonderbolts Academy episode. The Crystal Empire episode was dark, but it had outstandingly positive messages, plus none of the mane six were in explicitly life threatening situations. The Wonderbolts Academy had positive messages too, all of the episodes do, but the first time I watched it the positive message was lessened for me because of the sinking feeling of despair, however brief, I felt when I saw that happening to five of the mane six for the first time, not knowing what would happen. Goodness. Also, humanizing that scene makes it all the more creepy. I agree with all of that. I know Twilight's magic book said the Pinkie clones were soulless facsimiles. But that book was written by a pony. What if the author was wrong and Twilight really was committing mass murder? For me, the darkest part in the show was when five of the mane six almost died in The Wonderbolts Academy episode That scene irks me a bit. Fluttershy is normally too weak to stop a pony in freefall, but in a crisis like that she'll pull out the strength needed to save a life. But she would only be able to catch one. Maybe it was the horror of seeing four ponies falling and knowing she couldn't save them all that caused her to forget she could fly?

My pick would probably be the changeling invasion in the S2 finale. Remember, Canterlot has a military. One with spears, horns, and other pointy things. Scootalove 10,689 March 22, 2013 Share March 22, 2013 (edited) There have been a lot of dark moments in the show from Discord to Sombra to Pinkie Pie to Twilight. But, if I could say the darkest moment of the show I would say it would be when Twilight is sent down to the catacombs by the Chrysalis that impersonated Cadence. Goodness. Also, humanizing that scene makes it all the more creepy. Yes, the test in Too Many Pinkie Pies was my first thought when coming into this thread. Those clones were killed, regardless of how you try and argue that they were sent back into the pond. Their lives ended, and by the looks of things, it was pretty painful. We saw how Twilight made them explode like balloons. Also, we know that it wasn't just a case of 'clone magic' wearing off because the real Pinkie could have been shot. So... yeah. Twilight is technically a mass murderer. Congratulations, Princess Murderlight... Applejack and Luna are best ponies! Feel free to follow me on Fimfiction! That is pretty dark for a series about cute, cuddly little ponies. 1 Amoral cynic with a bitchin' vocabulary. Check out A Century of Song if you like music from before this millennium. Castle Bleck 19,319 March 22, 2013 Share March 22, 2013 The moment that sticks out to me the most is when Discord broke Pinkie in Season 2; he didn't just break her, he broke a part of me as well. 2 By Emerald Heart.↑

The Crystal Maiden 221 March 24, 2013 Share March 24, 2013 I think The Crystal Empire is the darkest episode to date. Sombre had this dark, scary quality about him, something that the other villains didn't have, (except maybe Chrysallis) and the slavery shot right at the beginning gave me a shock when I first saw it. A Canterlot Wedding definitely had its dark moments too: Celestia being knocked down, the battle against the Changelings, Chrysallis (her voice sounds ALIEN!). Appetite4Democracy 452 March 24, 2013 Share March 24, 2013 (edited) As stated several times before, the darkest moment in the show was probably the Crystal Empire. The flashback scenes to when Sombra ruled were very dark. Then, Sombra dies. Also, Chrysalis.
