Help with voice acting?

i honestly hate asking things of anyone here on the forms, but i need a little bit of help from you guys,

im taking up voice acting and i need some practice, sooo you guys could ask me to impersonate someone from an anime, cartoon, real life, all that stuff.

my voice can be crazy, mildly deep, and can be very high at some points, so it varies. so there could be a good variety of voices, i can sound like Meatwad (from aqua teen hunger force) an english men, and a few others, and with this i could find out what else i could do, so if you want to take a minute of your time and help me with my voice acting future :D

hey, that sounds quite cool xD

how about, real classy all of the mane 6es impressions + the royal canterlot voice and for the finale discord (Q´s voice)

If that´s too easy how about Johnny Cash or young Michael J. Fox (movie: back to the future f.e.)?

I always pictured you as a cross between Demoman and Pinkie Pie for some reason.

If I might make a suggestion, I'd try listening to recordings of regional accents form here and there across the world and build up a repertoire of that kind of thing. One of the worst things is hearing a poor attempt at what your own regional accent is. So having a good library of accents used to be a critical thing for VAs way back when. My uncle used to have several vinyl records with samples of accents from across England and Europe that he collected when he wanted to do BBC voice-over work. He never did do it, but he did collect the materials.

Now that I think on that, I wonder if he still has those things stored somewhere.

Im fairly decent at several British accents,Irish,Australian(obviously) and Texan accents.

Id say practise regional dialects from places like the UK,France,Russia,Germany and state accents from the US.

Those will give you the best vocal range imo.

I'm not really one for requesting voices, but if you're looking to get into voice acting, the most commone piece of advice I hear from pros is to focus on the acting aspect. Having lots of wild and awesome voices is great, but they won't mean a thing if you can't act with them. I've never heard your voice, so I can't really give you feedback.

You will also learn things along the way. Get as much acting experience as you can. I was given this piece of advice from a pro, and it couldn't be more true. I've personally lost count of the projects I've been part of since I started VAing in the brony community, and it's improved my skills a lot. Plus, you'll find that the more you put your voice into practice, the more intimately you'll know how your voice works. This can help greatly with knowing how to expand your range, which in turn can help you create lots of different and interesting voices.

Best of luck!! :D

Also, singing. What a lot of professional VAs have told me is that singing is great training for VA work as it teaches breath control, projection, and if you're lucky helps with tonal quality. But they mean *real* singing, not just screeching/speaking into a microphone and letting autotune do the work. laugh.png

Absolutely this! I was trained in singing before I got into VAing, and it made things a lot easier from the get-go. This is also why you'll see that a lot of VAs are also pretty good singers as well. They kinda go hand-in-hand in some ways. Consider picking up a singing exercise CD, and looking up some breath control exercises!

Well I'm no master voice actor, but I would like to say that I think you should take up singing lessons if you haven't already. Alot of things learned in singing can help you with voice acting I imagine, just being able to control your voice helps it.

As for recommendations for voices, do some characters from MLP, and then try all kinds of different accents, Southern, French, Spanish, British, German, whatever the heck you can think of. The more you can do the better.

Otherwise I don't really know, i'm no voice actor of course, the only voice acting I do is normally just random mocking stuff which isn't actually voice acting Xd. So yeah.

Good luck btw!
