While I do really like most subgenres, Symphonic Metal is my absolute favorite. Nightwish is my favorite band in this category. I noticed that I am the only one who has voted on it thus far....That is...disappointing.

I just got rid of djent, sheesh.img-1320579-1-dry.png

Well a lot of early death metal and black metal is actually VERY similar to thrash. Just listen to bands like Possessed, Venom and Bathory.

Not all types of Thrash appeal to me aswell... I heard enough of both of those... Death and black just doesn't fit my style at all... I guess that's acceptable for you...

Death and Black metal don't really appeal to me either. I like a couple thrash bands (Metallica and Megadeth). You should listen to those, they are really good.

I really like heavy metals; particularly those that fall under the f-block Lanthanoids.

Anything below them isn't heavy metal in my opinion.

-.-

I know that feel... I'm the only one who voted for black metal.

Sure, whatever floats your boat is fine. But, in a way it's a bit of an acquired taste.

Hah, Metallica has been with me all my life... When i was younger, my dad used to put me to sleep with Metallica songs :P He says nothing worked better! Megadeth is also great.

Alkali Metal >>> Lanthanides.

But everyone knows that Transuranium is where the really heavy stuff is. It's so brutal it can even hold itself together.

I guess my favourite would be melodic death metal. Though since we're able to vote for multiple, I added power metal in there too. You know, I'm just more of a "buttfuckingly wide clean vocal ranges" person. Honestly, the two are pretty equal in terms of enjoyment for me.

Might I suggest you add technical death or tech/prog death metal to that list? It's getting quite a bit of new acts, and I think it's different enough from traditional death to get it's own category.

Damn, I forgot to check off Melodic Death Metal, oh well I already did vote for Sludge Metal, Grindcore and Industrial Metal so that'll do I guess. But yeah I can't choose out of those 4, since I love them all so much, but if I were forced to choose it would probably be one of those, I was debating whether I should of added Black Metal and Doom Metal or not, though I wanted to narrow it down to at least 3 or 4, which I had done, so there.

In that list, there wasn't a single subgenre of Metal I didn't like.

But, my favourite kind of metal, and more specificaly, metal band, is most certainly Machine Head and their early albums, with their Nu Metal and stuff.

Anyways...

I'll have to add Technical death metal and Symphonic black metal then.

Speaking of black metal, do you listen to Bathory? They're like eargasmic OMFG.

I like symphonic myself, particularly symphonic black. Emperor are awesome and I also loved "Nexus Polaris" by The Kovenant.

Remember folks, metal is all one genre. I'm okay with having squabbles at its borders (calling out people who describe Korn and Disturbed as metal). But I don't think it's worth it to quibble about which kinds of metal are the best. All the subgenres, no matter how weird they may sound to us, grew out of traditional metal in some way. They're all one big dysfunctional family, as are their fans. img-1320906-1-wink.png

So, group hug!! Careful though, I'm wearing my spikes.

EDIT: And yikes, that was my 1500th post. Feels fitting somehow.

I've only heard of them, and so far from what I've been told, they're actually pretty good, I might have to check them out sometime, and also I've just noticed that Drone Metal isn't on the list, so I think that would be another addition.

Don't worry I'll add Drone Metal, although I don't know anybody who listens to it. And yes, Bathory is earagmic AF. I'd HIGHLY recommend that you get their first four albums.

I went with Progressive, Black, Melodic Death and Industrial.

Some of my all-time favorite songs and albums are from Tool, Kittie, Converge, Dethklok and Fear Factory.  I'm also a huge Slipknot and Metallica fan, but I didn't list thrash or nu- because I enjoy just a couple bands from each of those sub-genres.

Well I listen to Drone Metal on the occasion, and I'll check out the Bathory albums when I get the chance to.

Wait! Another fan of Converge, what's your favorite album by them, mine would be Jane Doe with Axe To Fall coming in a close second. I love Tool and Dethklok as well

I'd have to go with Axe to Fall.  The surprisingly stoic "Cruel Bloom" really got under my skin for months after I picked up that album.

I went for Trad, Power, Prog, Black, Doom, Melodeath, Sludge, Symphonic, Gothic, Folk, Viking, Glam, Industrial, Other*, and Symphonic Black.

I'm also heavily into Post-Metal, particularly the Blackgaze stuff, and various sub genres and fusions of Black Metal, Power Metal, and Folk Metal, as well as a bunch of other stuff.

I like how some of the options are really specific whilst others are really broad. tongue.png

I'm honestly unsure. Just, whatever seems to sound nice, I've got quite the variation of Metal-genre music.

Some heavy(but not always), Industrial Metal, Rammstein. I have soothing and melodic albums such as Apocalyptica and Nightwish. Got almost every Cradle of Filth album. I even have some good ol' Pirate Metal in there, with Alestorm.
Basically, whatever is a good tune to listen to.

Oddly, however, i'm not really a fan of all the mainstream or "pure" metal(as some would call it) bands such a Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer, and Megadeth.
I also don't get the appeal of Slipknot.

Oh God, this is hard. It really changes often, but right now I'm going to say Power Metal. Many of those bands have amazing vocalists and great guitar work. But then again, you can say that about most sub-genres too. tongue.png

I throught this was about different tiped of the actual substance metal. Not the band, I am sorry for my accidental vote. Please do not count it.

Ohh... I can't delete your vote actually, I think you have to click on "delete my vote". BTW, which one did you vote for (I'm just currious)?

One of my songs from my childhood.

A band who comes from my neighbour city called Pretty Maids.

Now I listen to folk metal as mentioned on another thread.
