@bluetrace: Well, even if it is a case of squeaky wheels with the bad anons, they're still a problem. I mean, a discussion site like that without a few rules to prevent such things is a breeding ground for chaos.

 

Of course it's chaotic. That's the idea though.

 

The "chaos" is a product of the Anonymity and the lax atmosphere. If you didn't have that though, it wouldn't be 4chan.

 

And remember, this forum and the entire fandom surrounding it probably wouldn't have ever existed if 4chan hadn't found the show first. Gotta give them some credit there.

I'm not exactly sure about that, but there exists some people that genuinely love the show since the beginning (10/10/10) without ever knowing it from 4Chan. Even if we didn't get the massive kickstart from /co/ and /b/, the pony fandom will rise, albeit much slower.

 

But at least by then we will have a much better name.

Well, chaos needs some reign on it, otherwise you end up with racism, sexism and other nasty things. And I know the fandom originates from 4chan, and while I acknowledge it, I also acknowledge all the bad that comes out of it. Hacking attacks. Hate-fueled attacks on people in the name of "lulz". Many memes that still have their corpses dragged around to this day. Other raid-related things.

 

tl;dr though good stuff comes out of it on occasion, bad stuff comes out of it more often.

As for all of the 4chan talk, I never really ventured onto that site. MLP was the only thing that made me go there, I guess I just never saw the appeal in the site before it.

I went on 4chan quite alot before i got hooked on MLP. I want to say that i lost a little bit of my humanity on there but the question of did i really have any to begin with comes up alot. I know im being overly dramatic but what i have seen on there is quite...something

I honestly don't think it would have gotten nearly as big as it did if /co/ and /b/ hadn't caught onto it at first. Maybe it would have, I dunno. Just doesn't seem like it would to me.

I'm willing to bet that most anons that post racial/sexist/homophobic remarks wouldn't do so in any other place around the internet. 4chan's always been that place where "smart people go to act stupid" (although that's debatable now). It's the veil of anonymity that gives people the chance to post stuff like that, and get away with it. And laugh at it.

 

Also, if the fandom hadn't originated from 4chan, and still managed to grow to the size it is now, it's almost a definite that the fandom would still be attacked brutally like it has been before, and gone through all the shit it's been through. Also, I would guess the "attacks" that came from anons were pretty much all /b/ script kiddies.

Hey, even if we wouldn't get this huge without that site, at the very least we won't have any of all those crazy fans that claim to enjoy MLP:FiM just because it supposedly popularized by 4chan.

My friend just visits the site for "the lulz" as he so eloquently put it. I still don't get why some people would go there to become part of the community though. It's good for a chuckle or two, but I find so much more on other places.

I probably surpassed that a long time ago, but then I tend to just dump a whole ton of random image links into this thread and other stuff. I don't make posts elsewhere unless I actively want to.

 

Also, speaking of intelligent posts: I've been doing a marathon run of the show, watching from the beginning and analyzing each episode as I watch it with a sort of mixture of recap and review. Been doing it on my Tumblr, but actually posting said posts onto my blog on the forum is too much work, because of weird formatting issues that happen when I copy/paste.

 

I wonder if I should advertise them anyway.
