mega thread Unpopular Music Related Opinions

I think the majority of black metal sounds like shit... big deal... everyone has opinions.

I don't like how a lot of it sounds, but some it sounds pretty good actually.

Besides, I think the majority of AC/DC songs sound the same

This is honestly kind of true...I think AC/DC would be a lot better if they had had a bit more variety in their music.

Have you tried Kvelertak? They're a mix of black metal and hardcore punk. They even give me a bit of a poppy vibe.

Yes, very much. If they experimented more they would've been a much likable band IMO.

That was kinda cool actually...I never thought black metal would be combined with hardcore punk...interesting...

I think my main issue with AC/DC is their drumming seems really really simplistic.

Yea, they took elements from both genres and combined them.

My main issue with AC/DC was the vocals, they just annoyed me a bit. I'm probably get tomatoes thrown at me by AC/DC fans for saying that.

I really like their old vocalist a lot, I don't care much for their newer vocalist.

This is a pretty good AC/DC song in my opinion:

Pretty much 98% of AC/DC fans prefer Bon over Brian

Hmmm... nah, I'm way too mature to throw tomatoes at you. ;)  But here's a poncho just in case.

Here's an opinion I've had for a while. Ever since the CD format came along, many albums are WAY too long. It seems like some bands feel that they NEED to fill all that space simply BECAUSE they have 70+ minutes to play with, whether or not they have enough good stuff to make a worthwhile listen all the way through.

On the contrary, it has paved the way for more artistic content, since artists creativity no longer is hindered by the maximum length of an album.

When it comes to music, you can always ignore the mediocre and unnecessary stuff, but we wouldn't have amazing music if it wasn't for the CD format. Therefore, I think it has brought waaaay more good things than bad

Mike Portnoy is a really good drummer, but I still hate him for trying to sue his ex-bandmates. I kinda hate Dream Theater but I like Images and Words, I honestly have no idea why I downloaded it.

How good a guitarist is should not be judged based on how fast they can play complicated solos, but instead how well they manage to invoke emotions using their instrument. It means that they have a deeper understanding when it comes to the guitar and that they have more artistic talent. Due to this, I think guitarists such as Slash and Van Halen are overrated as all fuck

People who say things like "European music is the best" really annoy me. I honestly don't give a damn what country a band is from as long as the music is good.

Disturbed is, always has been and probably always be my favorite band and it's largely due to David Draimon's beautiful voice.

Growling and screaming are legit vocal styles, even if sometimes they are a bit of an acquired taste.

I don't care about how simple or complicated a band's music is. If I like the way it sounds, nothing will change that.

This ties into the previous one as well but I don't care how music is made, how complicated it is or if it's fake; That doesn't change how the music sounds and if it was faster, had more or less notes or even in a different octave it would be a totally different song and would stop being that song.

I'm not so much a fan of chaotic music that you cannot discern any sort of beat or tempo from it. (Though I make an exception for chaotic solos)

I like music that "sounds like the musician just plays/sings as fast as possible" and don't see that as a bad thing in any way, shape or form. (Skeletonwitch is often accused of this)

Here's another one for you:

Lyrics are almost completely unimportant to me. I don't care what the lyrics are about, the melody behind it matters far more to me. That isn't to say I don't like some lyrics though. Iced Earth's Dracula has amazing lyrics. Foo Fighters' The Pretender is also one of those that I love the lyrics for.

Rap is the worst genre of music

If you think that rap is mostly Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, and all the other mainstream "rappers" define rap, you are dead wrong. Rap or at least mainstream have changed from story telling. consequences, and emotion to money, cars, and babes. Rap is still alive, it's just not playing on the mainstream radio.

Rap is the worst genre of music Dubstep isn't far from that Nickelback is a good band, one of my favorites. Instrumental music is one of the best genres of music.

I would much rather listen to stuff like N.W.A and Public Enemy over Nickleback any day of the week. I was raised off of hip-hop.

Melodic death metal can be beautiful.

Country music isn't bad, I just almost never listen to it.

Justin Bieber isn't bad, his songs aren't bad, and his fans should not feel bad, just because I'm not a huge fan of the genre he is a part of.

Parents should be more careful about what their kids listen to, because some musical artists and bands are horrible influences on children. This could be music from any genre.

I like metal that incorporates symphonic or other sorts of melodic aspects more than metal that does not.

I'm not a fan of rap, but my main issue is with the content of a lot of rap lyrics nowadays.

To me, violent references, hateful content, and glorification of dangerous or harmful behavior in songs is a much bigger problem than whether or not it has any vulgar words in it. For example, I'd much rather my kids listen to On a Boat by The Lonely Island than listen to almost anything by Eminem.

My favorite bands are usually in the genre melodic death metal or symphonic metal, yet many people have probably never heard of either of those genres.

That's silly, (no offense). I like Burzum a lot and I haven't stabbed anyone or committed an arson. I also like N.W.A and I haven't performed a drive by or joined a gang.

Just because you're mature enough to separate fantasy lyrics from reality doesn't mean that everyone is. The main thing that makes me worry about this is all the kids involved in gangs nowadays, but then again there's probably far more powerful influences in their lives than music that makes them do that.

I guess I'm just not comfortable with the idea of an 8 year old listening to a song about how "cool" it is to rape women or shoot people.

So you want the PMRC to make comeback? I'm sorry, but I'm the kind of person who defends the first amendment and freedom of speech with a passion. An artist has every right to use occult, violence, drug references, etc. in their lyrics in my book. Edited by AtDawnTheySquee

I actually didn't know what the PMRC was until you said that, since I looked it up.

I'm not saying free speech should be restricted. Bands do have the right to say whatever they want, all I'm saying is that parents should care more about what their kids choose to listen to. If a kid is mature enough to listen to a song and not allow it to negatively affect how they behave in the world, then by all means let them listen to it. But if a kid is allowing what they listen to to make them behave in ways that are harmful to themselves or others, then parents should notice that, step up, and help their kid get onto the right path.

Basically, all I'm saying here is that parents should care about what their kids listen to, and make sure that they're mature enough to handle the lyrical content. I don't want any bands to be required to censor themselves.

Honestly, I would not want my parents to tell me what kind of music I can and can't listen to. It also restricts them from finding things that they might like.

I think I've said this before already, but I find symphonic metal to be really boring. I'm also not a fan of a ll the female fronted symphonic/Gothic bands. In fact, the only Gothic metal band I like is Type O Negative because they're also doom metal.

Speedcore, Breakcore, and Mashcore are art forms

Jungle is far superior to Dubstep and Drum And Bass

Progressive Rock isn't just for pretentious people

Jean Michelle Jarre is better than Beethoven

Richard D James is one of the best musicians in the whole world

Music nowadays isn't dead

I think The Beatles are very overrated (they're still good though)

Industrial music has alot of influence on music as we know today (the whole synthpop thing was inspired by people listening to Throbbing Gristle, Carabet Voiltaire, amongst other experimental artists)

Kraftwerk are superior to The Beatles and inspired just as many people

Psytrance isn't just for candyflipping hippies

Although I can see it's merits and appeal to others, Metal doesn't do it for me personally

Dragonforce is just guitar wankery without any depth to it.

Non mainstream rap is amazing, and here is why.
