Should all of the mane six have romantic interests in the show?

My opinion is that it's going to be bad if they try this.

I mean, the girls don't need boyfriends or girlfriends to do anything that is allowed within the show.

Yeah, but that was forced and written by guys who's writing abilities didn't extend beyond "HU-DUR, THAT GIRL IS EATING TACOS WITH HER FEET".

 

If the writers don't want to do it, then they shouldn't do it. If they do, I'm sure they'd put far more effort into it, like Adventure Time and Regular Show (I know I keep repeating that, but seriously, they handle this stuff extremely well).

 

And even then, it's usually quite awkward.

 

 

Romance is just inherently tough to make workable, and I know that the sudden inclusion of love interests could be what makes me dump the show.

The only I can see get romantic interest is Rarity and that's mostly because Spike still loves Rarity. (That would a fun episode: Rarity falling for a stallion and Spike getting jealous).

Nah, I can't really see it.

Have you seen what happens to friends when they meet a significant other? They slowly drift apart.

 

I couldn't bear to see Flutters all alone because of her shyness, same with the others, I don't see it logical that they would all get boyfriends, as they all have their flaws.

 

I just want them to stay together, and I feel like having a boyfriend would break the show apart.

Honestly, this would almost be the end of the show for me. I don't know why but every time I watch a show and the main character(s) gets a boyfriend I just feel completely turned off. Like what happened with 30 Rock. Might be some weird form of jealously but how could I be jealous of cartoon ponies?

Not exactly, that would imply that cloppers are only into the show for sexual gratification which is simply not the case as with most of them it is more like a nice bonus. If romance was presented in a realistic manner which made sense to the overall plot of the show and was not simply shoe horned in simply for the sake of having it than yes that may give both cloppers and non cloppers cause to celebrate but if it is botched than I don't think most of them would like it. Sure it may give them a few more stallions to put into their stories/art but that would really be the only advantage to what is otherwise a bad situation.

Sorry you feel like that. I just wanted to convey my opinion, but it's too bad some people can't do so without being mean or rude.

Whoa whoa whoa! Wait a second. I just reread your post. They 'deserve' romantic interests?! The crap does that mean? First off, boy or girl, woman or man, a relationship is not a reward for either party. Are you implying that boyfriends are somehow able to be a relief to them from their everyday struggles? That just isn't the right reason to be with someone. You be with someone because of genuine attraction, respect, and eventually love. No one deserves or does not deserve a romantic partner. These girls are already quite happy being single, and getting into a relationship will not exponentially improve their quality of life.

 

Unfortunately for the people that want more males on the show (I am personally neutral on the matter) we already have six main characters, and multiple very interesting back characters we want expounded. Adding six new mane characters into the show would be spreading screen time way too thin. Also, if you're creating characters for the sole purpose of being someone's mate, you already have a horrible start to a character, because they aren't really a person they're a tool. The resulting ponies would be bland, and one dimensional  There is also no where for them to fit. In a show where one of the major purposes is to teach specific lessons about friendship, the roles of all the elements are taken, and the roles of the mentors have been taken, even the enduring family members have been filled in. There really is no where that these ponies would belong. It would make the show very awkward.

 

If they were not main characters, I could see a few of the mane six getting boyfriends (I highly doubt this show will brave outright lesbianism, though that makes me quite sad) but I am not sure other fans would like it. I probably wouldn't like it, I just wouldn't really care. It would lead to tons of complaining that these characters aren't developed enough or given enough screen time, when they can't be! 

 

Also, 'boyfriendship' or 'girlfriendship' lessons are a sure fire way to get most parents to turn off the TV. And if they cannot learn from their friendships with their partners again, what is the point of them on a show that is teaching kids about friendship and the self?

 

On the other hand, I'd love to see them try with at least one character, it may be amusing, it just doesn't sound plausible.

When you open up a thread you get a topic and discussion rolling but it doesn't stop or go based on your whims, it's a public discussion thread. If you don't like your own initial post then edit it. Don't get me wrong, Romance is pretty magical and all, but I'd much rather stick with how it is. If the show made so many people happy the way it is thus far, why change the direction it is going and risk losing who knows how many fans?

Rainbow Dash and Soarin because it fits.

Fluttershy and Big Mac because they are both really quiet and enjoy working with nature.

Rarity and Some big rich pony because we all know that is what she wants.

Applejack wouldnt want someone because it would distract her from apples.

Twilight wont because she will be to busy trying to impress Celestia

Pinkipie could have romantic interest but I don't know a male who would date her.

Fluttershy should have a coltfriend for one episode and turning out it just wont work. Thats the most I'd see, I mean seriously, Dashie and a coltfriend. How's this for an episode:

 

Rainbow Dash becomes friends with a colt at the Wonderbolts Academy. He's her new team partner ever since Lightning Dust was court martialled.They have a lot in common and they're best friends at school. There's a big obstacle course exam coming up and they're certain they're going to get the top score. Their relationship is like Dashie's friendship with Gilda, only this guy isn't a bully. So RD brings him home to Ponyville to meet her friends. We wouldn't need to spend a lot of time showing the development of their friendship because we could just assume it happened off camera. The episode intro could have a short interaction between them showing their platonic relationship, noting the obstical course, and ending with Dash inviting him to Ponyville.

 

When the rest of the mane six meet him, they think he likes Dash as more than a friend and they start playing matchmaker. It would start with Rarity (obviously) suggesting that romance may be in the air. RD laughs at the idea and dismisses it as silly, insisting that he is only a friend. But then the colt tells Dash that he has something really important to share with her, and asks her to meet him the next night. The others watch him and Dash together and interpret his behaviour as "crushy". They convince Dash that he has a crush on her and this "meeting" is actually a date. RD freaks out a little bit because she doesn't want that and now she doesn't know how to interact with him.

 

Rarity thinks that Rainbow Dash is just pretending she doesn't like him back and teases her about it. Rainbow gets annoyed by this, insisting that he is just a really cool pony who she likes flying with. Rarity asks "Oh please, Rainbow Dash, he's a colt. How could any filly be 'just friends' with a colt?" Rainbow goes to each of her friends asking for advice on how to deal with the situation and they each give her different advice. Rarity gives her a makeover, Pinkie Pie suggests a boy/girl party, Twilight has a book on relationships (covered in dust in the back of a closet because she received it as a present but never read it ). Meanwhile, Dash is so busy seeking advice that she isn't spending any time with the colt and every time she does see him she acts weird and runs away. All the while, Applejack is telling Dash that she should just be honest with him, ask him point blank how he feels about her, and be prepared to tell him how she feels.

 

Finally the whole thing cumulates with their meeting on some picturesque moonlit night in a flowery meadow. Dash is certain that he is going to admit his love for her and she stops him before he can say anything, delivering a long, awkward speech about how she's really flattered by his advances but she would like it if they could stay friends. After a moment of blank-faced silence, he bursts out laughing thinking she has made a joke. She asks him: "Then whybdid you ask me here tonight?" and he shows her the reason. The flowers in the meadow are called Moon Beans. When the light of the full moon hits them, they bloom and send up huge, glowing beanstalks into the sky. They grow into twists and turns and loops- the perfect obstacle course for two team mates practicing for an exam!

 

Everypony learns the lesson that just because two ponies (or humans) are of opposing gender, that doesn't mean they can't be good friends, and Dashie and the colt go off flying and laughing through the Moon Beans. I guess a similar lesson was learned in "Hearts and Hooves Day", but it wasn't the exact same lesson.

Did anypony else notice that in the Equestria Girls trailer there's a boy who looks like he might be a main character? The trailer shows a pretty common scene in romantic movies where Twilight trips and falls in the hallway and he helps her up. Later there's a shot of her hugging him.
