This drawing is based on an episode idea that Lauren Faust was unable to utilize during her tenure on FiM. The basic gist is that Rainbow Dash and Applejack are racing in White Tail Woods when they get lost. Fortunately, they are found and led through the forest by a stallion...who thinks he's a deer after being raised in the wild. Rainbow Dash wants to tell him the truth, but AJ, in contrast to her Elelment, wants to keep his being a pony secret as to not shatter his reality and break his heart.

 

 

 

 

Not 100% on how this turned out. I like how the stallion turned out, but as I drew the rest of the image, things just got worst and worst, until RD turned out pretty meh. I honestly believe half of it is my crappy pencils, but I'm still not really good at consistency.

 

Whatever. What do you guys think?

Wow, never heard of that one. Certainly does seem like a Faust idea, dun it? In any case, I wouldn't say you butchered it outright. The proportions need to be ironed out a bit, as tends to be the case with almost anypony, but I think you captured the feel of the concept pretty well with the facial expressions.

But in all seriousness, I know about the proportion problems. I'm pretty sure I'm never gonna drop the lean thinner look some people don't like, even if I wanted to. That's just how I draw everything and the best I can do is refine that.

What an interesting concept! I really like how you did their facial expressions. All that I can say otherwise is that they seemed a bit out of proportion, but that didn't make the piece any worse.

 

Nice location, too -- like the fallen tree bridge is giving you a false sense of security above the rushing river of reality.

Yeah, I figured part of it was just you defining your own style independently of the show's. Which is good, I mean one should never have to feel restricted to the style of the show. For me, though, it's not the thinness of their limbs and bodies that look odd so much as it is the length of their necks...they're just a bit...

Hey I don't know if anyone's told you this but their necks are a bit long.

 

I like it though, it's a unique style. I do think that Rainbow and AJ are a little on the skinny side, however.

 

I remember hearing about this episode... kinda glad it never made it into the show.

Still, "suck" is being a little harsh on yourself. Me, I'm still trying to figure out where the hell all the pivot points are in their legs, and I don't think I've ever once gotten them to look natural.

 

By the way, have you considered vectoring your drawings? Stylistic nuances aside, I think they'd look pretty neat-o inked and in color.

We are more alike in drawing you and I. More often than not I've drawn my necks long as well and have been overtly harsh with myself. It's difficult getting over that feeling of seeing your drawings as 'trash' or something which you're not satisfied with, but that feeling will dissolve in due time, believe me. But I like the way you draw, it's your unique way of drawing ponies just as it's my own unique way to draw mine in a dirty, sketchy kind of way. So what if people don't like it or if it looks wrong to them? If you enjoy drawing it, why bend to the will of others?

Wow people really need to make a fan episode of this for Lauren, it sounds fun to watch! But personally I think it she have been Rainbow that didn't want to say and Applejack did!

 

Okay now on the picture, the stallion looks great, but I think it would have been funnier if they were made out of stick rather than real antlers but his facial expression seems to be drawn well! His legs are a bit skinny and he is far to tall. (Though this may be because he was raised in the wild )

 

Applejack's and Rainbow's are a little bit thin and they are a bit tall. But there eyes are perfect and there manes and Aj's tail. (Rainbow's shouldn't be coloured but this may be because of shading! )

 

The background is really good too, I like how they are walking on a log and I think that brings more nature to this piece of art work!

 

So overall I mark it a 8/10 because it is really good but could be polished! Well done for this great piece!

Thanks for the constructive criticism. The antlers actually are sticks stuck behind his ears, but the photo quality is really low so you can't see it too good. I even added a little leaf on top.

Blast! I could not see that! I guess to great minds think alike huh! But really this is a great piece, I would really like to see a few more pieces like this with Laurens other ideas. Or maybe even a comic of this story, that would be cool!

Love the drawings. Really great my friend. Loving the look on the stalion's face. But the song. At 0:27 what does it sound like? It sounds really wrong.
