Everything else posted in this thread is fucking sunshine and lolipops compared to these songs. Stryker posted them in my Chill Out thread a while ago, and I've found myself listening to this a bit more than I'd like to admit

LET'S HAVE A DSBM OFF YOU AND ME

HAHA I WIN NO CONTEST DJENTY++

I'm actually surprised I haven't seen anybody post Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt by NIN.I know it's not super depressing, but it's still a pretty damn sad song if you ask me.

Country in itself can have a lot of depressing lyrics if you get past the pop stuff.

I have a few. The first one is an unreleased song. It's Bleed by deadmau5. It brings out your emotions and helps you have a breakdown to release everything, in my opinion.

This second one, is by The Flashbulb, which make great soft music. It's called Arrival To An Empty Room.

DJENTY LOOSE, SOUNDGARDEN WINS

OT: Dark Ambient is a genre I haven't mentioned before, which I feel kind of stupid for. It's more of a mix of scary and depressing, especially Sabled Sun

This really isn't all that depressing, but it's definitely somber.

Here're the BYU singers performing Eric Whitacre's "Sleep".

Staring beyond; up past the moon - - - will we reach the stars yet soon?

Met quick with loss; no sure response - - - men reach up high with their thoughts.

How high it goes; still no one knows - - - the likes of which search thick in droves.

Yet looking far; up near the stars - - - truth knows no better than we are.

With silver thread; and clouded head - - - blissful 'neath the darkened dune.

Definitely one of the saddest songs in Ace Attorney!

Skip to 1:12 for the song to play!

Just listen to it!

Knowing that you ruined Phoenix's life by failing is really sad.

Poor Phoenix!

Saddest line in videogame history in my opinion!

I find this song, Your Hand in Mine by Explosions in the Sky, to be somewhat depressing I guess. Starts off depressing, then gets pretty upbeat.

Also The Last Resort by the Eagles, a very sad song about society

You kidding me bro? Your Hand In Mine is like, top 5 most uplifting songs I've ever heard

To answer OP, the entirety of Gossamer by Passion Pit. Listened to that for days after my girlfriend dumped me. It's loaded with bad feels, and unfortunately way too relatable in a post-breakup mental state

Depressing music? Woo, I used to listen to a lot of that, so there's a great well of stuff I could link, assuming I can remember it all. I'll keep it short, though. First off I think I should mention Nine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral. A slow descent into madness can be an absolutely heart-breaking event if you're from the outside looking in.

Then there's VNV Nation's Illusion. I've had my own experiences with suicide before, so it hit me pretty hard. I try not to listen to it too much, if at all, if only to keep myself in a good mood.

And here's an unorthodox one - The Beatles' Eleanor Rigby. I can have bouts of loneliness, so the 'I look at all the lonely people' line can pull at my heart sometimes.

And what list would be complete without Radiohead? I'm going to post two, No Surprises and Fitter Happier. No Surprises is a normal depressing song, but there's something about Fitter Happier that both depresses me and chills me to the bone.

Try these out, they're pretty strong in feeling. I usually listen to metal though since most of the lyrics are poetic and have a far deeper meaning than most people seem to perceive.

This one is more sarcastic than sad, but still, the truth is sad.

This. It definitely carries that sullen feel to it. Like contemplating your own helplessness and mortality, like you could die the next hour because of something random. That's how nature tends to work after all. It's not easy to survive on this hostile planet. Whatever happens, balance returns and you might not find the result to be pretty. In the end, what you think means nothing in the face of the universe as it will carry on; with or without you.

Depressing music somehow help me feel better when depressed, not really happier, but makes it easier to deal with the sadness somehow. These are some of my favorites:

http://youtu.be/Udd-5g08U7o

Pink Floyd - Goodbye Blue Sky also fit the bill, which sadly I can't find any good audio rips off on YouTube. Also Fade to Black by Metallica, but that song essentially steals the whole intro straight from Goodbye Blue Sky so I don't feel comfortable crediting it alone.

Oh, also Hurt by Nine Inch Nails, both the original and the Johnny Cash cover. And Catherine Blake by My Dying Bride... too many great songs to list all of them.

I guess you could also include Joy Division here, but honestly I find that to be happy music no matter how depressed their lead singer was, the instruments don't sound all that sad.

A song about look back on past decisions and realizing how blind and wrong you were in the end. Realizing the truth behind your actions can really hurt but the truth hurts as they say.

The Legendary Man in Black ~ Good ol Johnny

The truth in those lyrics

I don't really need to be in bad mood to listen to depressive music. I am listening to it atm actually (and I am in good mood anyway :P ). Anyway, I present You Sybreed- From Zero To Nothing, my "song of the week" ^^ (warning though, slow tempo so might bore some people)

Depressing song for me? Hands down, it's "November Rain"

I listened to this song A LOT after my ex dumped me.

For me, listening to depressing music when I was depressed was just using it as a medium through which to channel my emotions. I tend to keep stuff inside, even when I'm alone. But if I need to express it, music is a great way for me to express how I'm feeling. Like that song. After my ex dumped me, all I listened to for a three or four month stretch was breakup songs. I guess the logic behind it is that someone can relate to the way you're feeling with music. I think there's a lot of power in music to move someone's emotions

I refuse to let go until you're impressed.
