music Depressing Music

Here's a track from one of my favorite bands I find this song to be quite depressing and beautiful at the same time. The song has a great atmosphere .

When applying the word "depressing" to music, I split it into two categories. Because some music can have a depressing melody, while others can have a fine melody but depressing lyrics/depressing context. An example of the latter is Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town, by Kenny Rogers. Then again, it's a country song and tons of country songs are sad. (Can't find the original version on Youtube, just a bunch of live performances and copies of the re-recording.)

 

For melody alone, nonetheless, I reckon Thomas Newman's "Any Other Name" takes it. Everyone's bound to have heard this at some point; if you've seen American Beauty, it was played at the end; it's also played during some documentaries involving tragedies. Ever had depression before, or lost something dear to you? This music will echo that.

Some Radiohead is always good too. This is probably my favorite Radiohead song ever. I sure know what it's like to wanna disappear sometimes.

Hmm The Honorary Title comes to mind. I've listened to this band for years, and they still remain one of my favorite bands. Jarrod Gorbel (the singer) has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard.

 

These guys have some really emotional sad songs. They have upbeat songs as well (which are also great), but I put links for some of their more sad tunes.

When I feel depressed I usually listen to Hammock, this two member band that creates this absolutely beautiful post-rock/ambient kind of music.  This song by them is depressing, but in a feel good way

Some other depressing stuff would be some Post-Hardcore stuff, especially Silverstein. I'd say anything made by them is pretty darn depressing, except for "Arrivals & Departures". "This Is How The Wind Shifts" was kinda lackluster as well, but "Discovering the Waterfront" was very good.
