What did you first think of each of the Mane 6 when you started to watch the show?

Well when i first saw the show i had just been told by a someone, that Applejack was the only not retarded one. I then decided to watch the first episode.

Anyways my first thought on Twilight was that she seemed like a very reasonable person, I had an easy time identifying with her and thought that she seemed very normal.

When I saw Pinkie the first time I wasn't paying much attention so I just thought that she had been put into the episode to give Twilight a bad start at talking with other people, but when saw her later on at the party i instantly loved her personality, the freshness and randomness was very entretaining to me.

My first thought about Applejack was: Oh no! Not another southern stereotype! and that was pretty much what i thought until i saw "applebuck season" which is one of my favourite episodes.

My thought on Rainbow dash was just that I thought she seemed very silly, but was capable of being serious if she felt it was needed, but in the second episode that kind of turned.

My thought on fluttershy was: OMFG she is shy! that was it.

and my thought of rarity was initially wow, she is obsessed with looks!

Let's see...my very first raw impressions from the season one pilot:

Twilight Sparkle: Pretty cool guy (girl). Seems to be the voice of reason for the series

Pinkie Pie: (When Twilight first arrives in Ponyville) The hell?

(At the surprise party) Cocaine really IS a hell of a drug. And hot sauce with cupcakes? Total party girl.

Rainbow Dash: Immature tomboy of the series.

Rarity: God...not one of those shallow "girly-girls" again.

Applejack: Child support must be a bitch for you guys...

Fluttershy: D'awww...I thought your name was "Butterfly"

Then again, my opinions have dramatically changed since then. I still think Rarity's a bit shallow (flame war incoming) and Applejack's family must break bank when it comes to grocery shopping, but I still love each and every pony inthe series. :)

A renactment of my thoughts when each character first showed up when I was watching the 2 part pilot for the first time:

Twilight: "An anti-social character who has a hard time interacting with people? I relate to you already. "

Rainbow Dash: "You seem like a fun character..."

Rarity: "Uh oh...a vain, selfish fashionista-type character? These types tend to bug me...."

Applejack: "...you seem like fun too. I've always liked the friendly cowgirl types."

Fluttershy: "Awwww, aren't you adorable!!"

Pinkie: "So this has a crazy wacky character too I see. The fun kind that I love or the kind I want to strangle?...the fun kind it appears so far, thats good."

Twilight Sparkle

Since this is the first pony you meet, I'll start with her - she and I have a lot on common, and as such I latched onto Twilight quite quickly. Her general mannerisms, her way of thinking and her reactions to the other ponies were rather similar to ones I would have experienced myself having been thrown into Ponyville. We both share an insatiable love of books, of trying to help other ponies even if it isn't remotely useful to anyone, a hatred of parties into the early hours, an adoration of checklists and being able to check things off them, as well as a love of knowledge and understanding. As the series has gone on my impeccable view of Twilight has slipped a little as she has shown herself to be a little naive in some cases and overbearing in others where she shouldn't have been, though I had identified these in my own character a long time ago and as such she remains my favourite of the mane six.

Pinkie Pie

The second pony you meet, and therefore my second description. My first impression of Pinkie was...an eyebrow raise. I assumed she would be a mane character from that moment on, since she had such a dramatic entrance, but other than that I had no real reaction to her at the off. My later opinion of her further into the episode was one of stereotypical dislike - there's always an eccentric character in a show to make people laugh, and seemed Pinkie was it. She doesn't disappoint either, most of her character and mannerisms hanging off of this mad visage she hangs about herself most of the time. She's about equal with Rarity in my opinions, as far as ponies go. While I have no problem with hyperactive people or ponies, her general loudness is enough to throw me off instantly.

Applejack

I did like Applejack from the start, I must admit. Her accent reminded me of America more than any other accents in the show, and from the off she cane across as a proud and loyal pony that would make a good friend. The amount of family around Apple Acres at the time, half of which seem never to have been seen again, was amusing, and as the series progresses she remains true to that first impression given all those episodes ago. While she is sometimes loyal to a fault it is an endearing quality and she surely should be a role model for other ponies rather than just a ranch girl.

Rainbow Dash

Quick-hooved and slow-brained with a touch of overly developed self-importance, though at least her belief in her abilities seems to be well placed. My first impressions of the pony were as above - not someone I would like to hang out with on a regular basis. The boasting would surely get on my nerves, and I would be forced to stamp on her face for it eventually...a bit of a violent reaction, but an honest opinion, none the less. As the series progresses my lack of affection for her does not change, and even in series two I find her almost unbearable and overly brash and self-proclaimed. She may have the abilities she claims to have, but she has no sense of modesty.

Rarity

Second in my dislike only to Rainbow Dash, Rarity is very low on my list of ponies I liked at all, let alone ponies I liked from the start. My impression of her as she handled the decorations was that she was a perfectionist - something that isn't a bad trait - but she bares a few resemblances to Rainbow Dash in her self-important mannerisms, though she adds a feminine twist to them. As the series develops she comes across as prissy and self-important, only helping another pony when it is truly necessary, and when it won't get her hooves dirty. Alongside that she's a little snooty, and I get the feeling she looks down on some of the other ponies simply because they lack the same tastes. Not somepony I'd like to spend too much time with.

Fluttershy

This pony is...adorable, but so shy it's almost physically disabling to the poor girl. Impressions hung on this for a few episodes, until a little more of Fluttershy came out of her shell. I can't say I like her, but she doesn't really have any traits that I find terribly nasty, leaving her comfortably in the middle. She's sweet and tried her best to please other people, even if it takes her out of her way to do so. What can I say...somepony needed to be a neutral...Fluttershy's the neutral for me.

Twilight Sparkle - At first I saw here as a very smart pony, but a loner. I see a lot of myself in her. I've always liked her, but lately I like her even more. She has matured into a leader. I think that started in Bridle Gossip or Pinkie Keen. She sees things other ponies don't see. In time she seems to know the other ponies better than they know themselves.

Fluttershy - Like everyone else I dawwed at her in the first episode. I've always loved Fluttershy. At first she was my favorite pony by far, now she is pretty much tied with Twilight Sparkle. Not because I like Fluttershy any less but because I like Twilight Sparkle even more. I've found that in a pinch Fluttershy can be very brave. It may seem like she is weak and helpless, but she always comes through in a pinch. I think she is the one I still always want by my side. She won't do anything except be cute except when she really needs to be, but when she comes out she really comes out.

Rainbowdash - Before I became a brony and had only seen A Party of One, Rainbowdash was my favorite. Now I just like her. She is Cocky and arrogant and sometimes lazy. She's too sure of herself and gets into trouble. She could really use a bit of Humility. Hopefully now that she's reading we will see some positive changes in her.

Applejack - She seems to see herself as the older sister and as a leader. Thing is Twilight Sparkle does the better job. Applejack may be a very very hard worker but she pushs herself too hard and ends up causing problems. She would never expect anything of another pony that she cannot do for herself. Lately though I've found that AJ can be very dishonest with herself. She lies to herself and twists her own perception of reality in order to satisfy herself that she is being honest, when in reality she is not.

Rarity - At first I saw rarity as a stuck up prissy that just uses her charms to get what she wants and have others (spike) do things for her. Now I see her as a stuck up prissy that just uses her charms to get what she wants and have others do things for her. Rarity is my least favorite and I wouldn't watch MLP if the others were like her. Still she does contribute to the story and can step out of her normal self from time to time, though it is rare and she has a hard time doing it.

Pinkie pie - at first I thought I kinda understood Pinkie Pie as the extreme extrovert who really loves to be around other ponies. A great friend when things are going good but too easily offended. I still partially think that but the more I have seen of Pinkie Pie, the less I understand her (and the more I like her). I'm now extreamly confused about who Pinkie Pie is. Sometimes I wonder if she is even really a pony. I've found myself saying the same thing as the other ponies now. Every time I can't understand her (every episode) I find myself saying "she's just being pinkie pie"

Twilight - Anti-social but not emo. I LIKE!!

Pinkie Pie - Well that was an annoying background pony *my sister tells me that Pinkie is in the main six* Really?! But she's annoying~! (Later becomes my fav character)

Applejack - Country...just country.

Rarity - I like her...too much bling tho...

Rainbow Dash - AWESOME!!

Fluttershy - SQUEE~! So cute!!

In order:

Twilight - Let me know this was taken seriously when she was reading and avoiding social activity instead of combing her hair or something stereotypical. I could relate to her most, being a socially stunted intellectual with an obsession to diligence, duty, and pleasing a mentor figure. Her discovery of the importance of her own happiness mirrored mine in some respects.

Pinkie Pie - Ooooooookay we'll see her later in the episode.

Applejack - I like her friendly southerner attitude and big family. The latter of which I also have. It also made me think how weird it was to have a cowgirl in a kingdom ruled by a Princess, but that was sort of an afterthought.

Rainbow Dash - A bit of a loose cannon who acted before thinking, but didn't seem purposefully harmful.

Rarity - The "girly" one. Even with that knee jerk reaction, I found it interesting that she tried to help Twilight with her look instead of looking down on her for it.

Fluttershy - D'awwwwwwww she's so cute! (Time delayed) Wait! These aren't just "huggable" feelings these are . . . Oh God, what's wrong with me!

Pinkie Pie - Ha! Called it! Friendly, but doesn't seem all there.

Rainbow Dash-Annoying

Fluttershy-Annoying

Rarity-Annoying

I was still in that "lol I'm watching ponies" stage and didn't care much for the characters until around 5 episodes later, hell I couldn't even remember their names for a while, now I know all of them and just about every background character haha.

When I first saw MLP FiM, it was the first episode on youtube.

Twilight Sparkle - I felt like she was a bit rude and inconsiderate because of her actions towards Spike, but I found her rather humorous - "All the ponies in this town are CRAZY!" and when she mimics Spike after he tells her to lighten up - LOL. Her somewhat-rudeness began to come across as funny. "Yes, Rainbow, I was there."

Pinkie Pie - Best. First. Impression. Ever. I mimicked her gasp foreeeever after that, laughing each time. I truly believed she was not right in the head, but that was what I loved about her. The Princess is gone! "OOooh, she's goooood!" Her skipping everywhere was just so wonderful, and her song... I NEEDED that song when I was a little kid! I decided I liked her, but she wasn't my favorite - yet ;)

Rainbow Dash - Love her character design (I love rainbows). Laughed forever when she jumped on the cloud to make it rain on Twilight. Seemed a bit lazy, but yep - 10 seconds flat. I was surprised when she accused Twilight of being a spy, and goodness, she came across as so conceited when the Shadowbolts were talking to her.

Rarity - eeeeeeeeh. I find Rarity very pretty, but so... superficial. I cannot stand superficial people. Her "generosity" was... well, I did not think very highly of it, especially after she later expressed regret for doing it (saying she would never part with her tail again). I enjoy joking about her slaying the dragon.

Fluttershy - Second best first impression. I didn't know what to think of her until she started squeaking - I nearly laughed til I cried. She was so cute! Baby dragon! I loved how interested in others she seemed, truly caring about them and their life's stories. I only wish she could have been more firm sooner about not letting the others attack the manticore. Yay kindness.

Applejack - She was certainly something. I began to like her when she kept grabbing the other's tails in her mouth to stop them (stop Rainbow Dash from charging Nightmare Moon) and I thought it was great she shoved a food item into Pinkie Pie's mouth to make her stop talking. AJ has things under control! I appreciated her defending Twilight from Rainbow's accusations, and her acknowledging that Twilight knows what is going on. She stood up for the others against Rainbow trying to spook them. She was also the only one that didn't need any assistance when they fell down that mountain-side-thing. She managed to stop herself, then selflessly let go of that root to slide down to Twilight to help her - risked her life for Twilight - then once Twilight had been saved, she hopped down the side of that cliff herself. Sure, she told the truth about letting go, but I found it strange that was what represented her honesty. I'll assume in the panic of the moment and her thinking she didn't have a lot of time was why she didn't add that Rainbow and Fluttershy were there.

Hope I didn't offend anyone if I didn't have much positive to say on your favorite - everypony can like anypony they want for whatever personal reasons :) This is just my opinion sharing my first impression.

Pinkie Pie is my favoritest of the mane six for several reasons, but most importantly because she always has a good attitude. The others can doubt her, say somewhat unkind things, not believe her, and she just rolls with it. I also love her because her self-defined purpose in life is to make others happy. I believe her balloons cutie mark actually represents her uplifting others. Her amazing dimension bending and psychic powers are a factor, too :) When poor Pinkie Pie looses her mind, well, it is quite humorous. She has her own depression demons to fight, yet focuses on others. The world will be a better place when she succeeds in breaking that 4th wall! >:D

  • 1 month later...

My first reactions to the mane 6:

Twilight: She remained a huge mystery to me at first, like there was so much to her that she wasn't letting on. But within the short amount of time, she the she completely stole the show for me (and my heart! *blush*)

AppleJack: Honestly, I though I was gonna be a AJ fan the first moment I saw her...(I have a thing for Southern girls)

Fluttershy: I have to admit, as cute as she was, I was so concerned that she was going to be the quiet type...like Big Mac only worse.

Rainbow Dash: Loved her instantly, she was so funny and I had a feeling she was going to make me laugh the most.

Rarity: I have to admit I didn't really like her at first. I'm not too keen on "girly" characters.

Pinkie Pie: I'm sure I'm not the only one who wanted to stab her the moment I met her, right?

After I watched more of the episodes, I now love all the 6 mares, but my level for love for them still varies.

Twilight- I've always liked her, because I can relate to her geekiness. I've always found her adorkable, but a little annoying at times. She's always been my least favourite of the Mane 6, because she's more boring to me than the others. But that doesn't mean she isn't awesome.

Applejack- The first time I heard her accent, I nearly roaned out loud. I thought it would annoy me. I couldn't have been more wrong. Now she's one of my favourite ponies, and I find her accent cute too.

Rarity- I thought her somewhat "prim and proper" sounding accent would annoy me as well. Again, though, I was very wrong. I can't help but love the sound of her voice. I also thought she would be too "prissy" for me, but she's just prissy enough.

Rainbow Dash- I thought (really, knew) she would definitely be the "badass" of the group. I found her to have a bit of arrogance, but something about her convinced me that it didn't matter. She's definitely an awesome pony.

Fluttershy- Cutest pony ever. That is all.

Pinkie Pie- I had a feeling she would be my favourite pony. I was right. She made me laugh, and was totally crazy, which I love. Say it with me: Pinkie Pie is best pony.

Twilight.

I thought she was just... there. She seemed very boring and normal to me, and nothing was special about her. I guess it was the episodes plot of her making friends and being a social outcast. Obviously, my opinion has changed since, and shes my favorite character.

Applejack.

My first though of her was: "Oh, hard working southern girl. Yeah yeah..." And I don't know why, but she grew on me for some reason. Really can't say.

Rainbow.

I thought she was a cool character because of her personality. For some time, she was my favorite.

Pinkie.

I thought of her as a really annoying and talkative character, and wish she would go away. But during progression of the show, her character was kinda expanded more during then (Party of One, Baby Cakes, etc.), and didn't turn out to be who I thought she was gonna be.

Rarity.

First thought: "Uuuuuggghhhh...." I never liked characters like Rarity, and she had no appeal to me. Now, shes... not bad to me. Sort of middle ground.

Fluttershy.

First thought was a shy character who rarely does anything, and doesn't contribute to the team, and I didn't like her. Now, she is pretty different since the first episode, and I like her alot more.

These were mah 1st thoughts, before I really got to know the show.

Twi - Hmmm, well she's smart, she seems kinda very "indoorzy", if that makes sense :P

RD - Well, we got the tomboy in the group. Prepare to see some bad manners

Pinkie Pie - She's just like me! Only more talkative....(That was when I was hyperactive 99% of the time ;))

Rarity - Girly girl of the group, that can't be good.

Fluttershy - Thank god this is not the main character!

Applejack - .....holy s***, I'm gonna love this one

Now....

Twi - She reminds me of my intelligent side, and I realy like her voice, its rather smexy ^_^

RD - I love flying too....

Pinkie Pie - You so random, yet I like that :)

Rarity - Stop whining please. You look good and that voice is nice but Jesus....

Fluttershy- Waaay overated. Can you do something other than whimper, cry, and cower at stuff? I think you're cute, but COME ON

Applejack - Its unhealthy that I love this character so much, but she is just perfect, just the right type of woman for me

Applejack: Didn't really find much interest in her from her intro in the pilot. Just seemed like a stereotypical valley girl with not much to offer to the crew beyond her accent. Now I know she's one of the more level headed of the mane 6.

Rainbow Dash: I thought she was going to be my favourite, I love the tomboy characters. Then she became increasingly obnoxious with her ego in the pilot..

Pinkie Pie: Oh god. Annoying, obnoxious and senseless.

Twilight Sparkle: Boring, thought she was going to be a typical Mary Sue who is the smartest and most resourceful all the time.

Fluttershy: I actually liked her, really passive and quiet, what's not to like there? I thought she was adorable.

Rarity: I thought she was going to be Twilight's rival tbh.

Twilight: A book worm who would be rather dull.

Rainbow Dash: Cocky, but cool and interesting.

Fluttershy: The classic shy girl character.

Applejack: A hic. A friendly hic, but a hic nonetheless.

Rarity: Stuck up 'princess' who was fussy and exact.

Pinkie Pie: Poster child for ponies in need of Ritalin.

These views all changed after three or four episodes, and have improved since then =3

Applejack - Well rounded character but uninteresting

Rarity - ...

Pinkie Pie - Drugs are bad mmkay?

Fluttershy - SO ADORABLE <3

(First episode I watched was The Ticket Master)

Twilight - thought she was prissy, one of those annoying goody-two-shoes characters that I always hate, up until that Benny Hill chase scene

Applejack - I thought she was cool.

Rainbow Dash - I thought she was funny, kind of a jerk though

Rarity - Thought she was hilarious, especially with that whole fantasy daydream and etc.

Fluttershy - I thought she was funny as well.

Pinkie Pie - Thought she was hilarious, though slightly annoying thanks to that Grand Galloping Gala song

Spike - Thought he was really freaking annoying.

I can say that my opinion of the show wasn't very high until the Benny Hill chase scene.

Applejack - Applejack was originally my favorite pony before I even started watching the show. So usually whenever I watched an episode I would always be on the lookout for her. I liked everything about her: her personality, color scheme, design, element, voice, and the accent was icing on the cake. Today, I still like her just as much, even though she still doesn't have as much screen time as I'd like. Although the two episodes she got in a row were just heaven to me.

Posted Image

Twilight - At first, I didn't really know what to think about Twilight. I knew she was in sorts, the main character, but I didn't really know what to feel about her. I mean yeah, she was funny and really freaking adorable, but she could have been... I don't know. It felt like out of each of the mane six, Twilight was the pony that stuck most to the scripts, like everything she said had been written beforehand.

This was my opinion of Twilight before Season 2, by the way.

Posted Image

Rainbow Dash - When I had seen Rainbow Dash for the first time, I instantly thought she was coolest pony. Her mane was awesome, she had a really cool cutie mark, and she had a competitive side to her. I could also tell she was lazy at times, and silly at others. Which is cool, because I can relate to that. I also thought +skill points for being the fastest flyer in all of Equestria. Really, why hasn't she made it into the Wonderbolts yet?

Posted Image

Pinkie Pie - Oh gawd. Pinkie to me, was by far the funniest character I had seen in a long time in any show. Just the fact on how random she is, is hilarious. When I had first saw Pinkie, just seeing her gave off the vibe that she was going to be the life of the show. I also noted her ability to pretty much do whatever she wanted. At first it was kind of creepy, but later I just left it as her being herself. I also noted that she had an endless source of energy. She always hops everywhere, her mane is always poofy not because she styled it that way, but because that's how her character is reflected. Poofy, and unpredictable.

Posted Image

Rarity - To me, when I first saw Rarity, I thought she was a pretty cool character. I could tell she was into fashion and styling within the first few minutes of seeing her. Her personality matched her design, a bit stubborn at times but generous when need be. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only when here that thought her mane was absolutely gorgeous when first seen. Otherwise, I didn't have any beef with Rarity, she was a neat character and good addition to the mane six.

Posted Image

Fluttershy - I thought Fluttershy was alright when I first saw her. The way how she always was / is quiet and shy was really adorable, and it made me feel like I had to protect her in some sort of way. I liked how her character had somehow tied into nature and peace, I thought it really had added to her element: kindness. Another thing I liked about Fluttershy is that how the rest of the mane six knew how fragile Fluttershy was, and sort of kept a watchful eye over her when needed.

My opinions:

Pinkie Pie: I couldn't believe how close to me she resembles, her perkiness, her zest, she was just like me in so many ways.

Applejack: Honestly, I found her boring at first.

Rarity: Hmmm...didn't make a great of an impression on me, I've felt like I've seen this character before.

Rainbow Dash: Oh how I despised this one, I just can't stand cocky characters, but after a while I saw that there was more to her than that.

Fluttershy: She was...just there. I'm probably the only one who didn't go "awww" when I saw her.

And now for the moment you're all been waiting for:

Twilight: Honeslty, I didn't know what to feel about her at first. I found her confusing, but entertainingly so. So no it wasn't love at first sight with Twi and me, I didn't started to fall for her until she gave that big speech in the second episode, and by the time I saw "Winter Wrap Up" I was in full on fangirl mode.

Now:

Twilight: OH MY GOD I LOVE HER I LOVE HER I LOVE HER SOOO MUCH!!! I WOULD DO ANYTHING TO BE WITH HER!!! SHE'S MY ONE TRUE LOVE!!

Rarity: What a fashionesta!

Rainbow Dash: Hilarious, and pretty cool, love her bangs!

Applejack: Isn't she just adorbs?

Pinkie Pie: My twin as a pony.

Fluttershy: Tolerable, her her shyness grew old on me very quickly!
