Worst sequels and so on

Well we all have seen our fair share of great games, but what about the stupid sequels and so on. We have all seen at least one game that we loved, then the sequel came out, which made us hate the franchise or just waste our money I often dislike sequels because, of there is a chance they are just jumping the gun sure there are good sequels but honestly that is getting more rare,

So of the bad sequels or higher that come to mind are

  1. Bioshock infinite (I am not sure if I spelled it right)
  2. Final fantasy XIII (or whatever)
  3. Just Dance 4, 3, and 2 (I know this can't be considered sequels)

What about you? what games can you think of that doesn't need a sequel?

BioShock Infinite was just a plain disappointment. Apparently it was originally meant to have dynamic, non-linear gameplay, tonnes of choices, Elizabeth had all these cool powers, Columbia was a full, explorable city and it was going to have multiplayer. Most were even shown in the 10 and 15 minute E3 demo. But the final product ended up completely dumbed down.

For those that haven't seen the 10 and 15 minute demo, I do not recommend watching it or you will be INFINITELY disappointed.

All of Tony Hawk skate games. Activision just goes like "HERPADERP LET'S GO AND COPY THE GAME ENGINE FROM OUR PREVIOUS GAMES, ADD SOME USELESS STUFF, MAKE NEW MAPS AND RELEASE IT!"

Animal Crossing City Folk was an awful excuse for a sequel. When people criticize the game, they oftentimes criticize it for being too close to Wild World. But as a big Animal Crossing fangirl since the GCN version, I feel that criticism is significantly missing the mark. Being too similar to Wild World was a problem, but if that was the only - or even the biggest - problem the game would have been okay. Instead the game is a mess, one that was obviously a result of laziness in development. The single-player mode was dull with animal villagers that were a thousand times more repetitive than in any of the other AC games. The new features were all messed up with poor decisions in design. And features were even removed from Wild World. Ones that were good.

It's a wonder that the same team went on to develop New Leaf. The two games were obviously developed with an entirely different attitude.

The WORST would have to be MW3. I can't believe that was a product of Infinity Ward, it makes me embarrased to play MW2 because they made that game as well

I also disliked Halo 4 as a sequel to the last Halo trilogy personally. No creativeness whatsoever. It may appear that way, but they repetitivelly mention the forerunner throughout the last trilogy. As well, the multiplayer (is now) a copy paste of MW3 pretty much.

These might be more spinoffs rather than actual sequels to the original Megaman series, but the Megaman X series and Megaman Legends series. They just bore me.

Let's see what else, Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks, boring and Chancellor Cole is just a demon knock off of the Happy Mask Salesman, seriously some of the facces he makes reminds me of Happy Mask Salesman. I admit I never play the game all the way through, heck I didn't fight the first boss, I just didn't enjoy it alot.

Hmmm....FFXIII I never played this, but what I've seen just looks stupid.

Mario Party Advance or what ever is called, okay this is a bit knick picking, while the mini-games are fun and story isn't really that bad, but getting some mission done in amount of turns ruins it.

I didn't really find Bioshock Infinite to be that disappointing. Yeah, it didn't live up to its promises at E3 2011 but it was still a good game in my eyes.

Anyway,

  • The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass
  • New Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops
  • Final Fantasy XIII
  • Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (not saying it's a bad game, it's just too difficult and the dialogue was bland; the Wii version fixed the difficulty,

the Spider Guardian is now possible

, but Metroid Prime 2 won't ever be as good as the original to me)

  • Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (again, not saying the game is bad, but the soundtrack isn't as memorable as the original, boss ghosts aren't as fun and the normal ghosts aren't as creative as the original. Also, no Press A to Mario.)
  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Not really a fan of Hitman: Absolution. Though the graphics and the new additions deserve some praise, the creators changed the game way too much. It doesn't even feel like Hitman anymore. It was way less innovative and lost so much of its replay value. I spent numerous hours replaying Hitman: Blood Money, and I pretty much didn't even touch Absolution again after I beat it. It's definitely not the worst sequel ever, but it definitely left a lot of Hitman fans disappointed.

A lot of the newer Pokemons are kind of getting repetitive to me. I hope the new Pokémon X and Y will be better. Pokémon Black was boring. I got Black 2, but I haven't played it yet.

Also, I actually liked Bioshock Infinite, but I've never played the other ones, so that may be why.

Black Ops 2
Saints Row (I like the second one though)
Grand Theft Auto (PC was better)
Pokemon, like what TheSupremeLeaderOfChaos said really repetive and overdone.
I think that's it. :3

Yeah, play the others or even look up the others, they were the games I played before Bioshock infinite, the first and second one wasn't as light as infinite but I liked it better.

Duke Nukem: Forever. 'nuff said.....same cheesy one liners, same weapons, only difference was a graphics upgrade really.

MW3: it felt more like MW2.5....as they felt pretty much the exact same.

Megaman X7, a bloody insult to not only the X series, but the entire Megaman the entire franchise(maybe not as bad as XOver, but still retarded)

Sonic 06, between the awful loading times, awful story, and the bestality, I really don't think it was crack the developers were on

Medal of Honor Heroes 2, and people say Vangard was bad(I actually enjoyed that one). By the end of the game the difficulty and level design just becomes unfair

Medal of Honor Rising Sun, After the greatness that was Frontline, this one was just blah

Starfox Command, truth be told, I actually liked Command a lot, but from a story perspective they must've been on the same high-end substance Sega was using for Sonic 06

DUKE NUKEM FOREVER

Such a fucking dissapointment.

What was it, like 12 years in development?

Like, really... c'mon 12 YEARS! You gotta come up with something better in that time.

The biggest disappointment to me ever was playing Paper Mario Sticker Star, that game took everything I love about the past 3 games, and threw it out the window in favor of...nothing really, I love Paper Mario for immersing me into the environment of the Mario world, and Sticker Star fails on every aspect, the characters are bland, the environments are predictable and uninspired, the story is beyond predictable, and the combat system was awful. While some puzzles were cool, the combat system was ruined, and some people say SPM ruined it, but I think that it was a nice change, Sticker Star just went and made a broken system. Now it's not an awful game, but I regard the first 3 as beyond amazing, and this game was just a disgrace to the others.

Aside from that I dislike Jak 3, MW3, NFS the Run, DMC 2, New Super Mario Bros 2, and Yoshis Story

Dragon Age II.
Origins was far better, the characters were more relatable, and I'm one of those rare people who liked the combat system in DAO better than the one in DA II.
I also really hated the fact that Dragon Age II took place entirely in one setting, that being the city of Kirkwall.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II.
The story was a cheap re-hatch of the first game, and brought to mind the Dark Empire comics series.
But whereas The Dark Empire series excelled, Force Unleashed II was a horrible trainwreck.

Tomb Raider (2013 reboot)
Tomb Raider is a perfect example of a game series that DID NOT NEED A REBOOT.
Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider franchise were doing just fine, and I just can't wrap my mind around why they chose to make this game.
In fact, I never even heard any compelling reasons at all.
They relaunched the franchise either because they could, or because remakes and reboots are just what's hip and trendy right now.
Or maybe I'm just too attached to the Core Design originals, so what do I know.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one that was disappointed by the new Paper Mario. I felt more enjoyment playing through super paper mario than this one, this game just seemed to be missing something from the older mario RPGs. I didn't even bother getting to the half-way point before I wiped the data and installed animal crossing over it.

*ahem* ok, and my second pick that hasn't been said (at least I don't think it has) is megaman battle network 4. I loved the battle network series to death, I still play battle network 6 from time to time. Battle network 4 though was sort of where the developers forgot what makes a story interesting.

The previous games had a linear story arch to progress your way through the game; this one was switched up a bit. Instead of having one story, they implimented a way to make the story have multiple paths. Sounds good, right? Well, the way they did this was by making little to no story whatsoever and having you progress through pointless tournaments that followed the same flowchart every. single. match.

You're introduced to your opponent, your opponent has a tedious problem that needs solving, you, being the goodie two-shoes protagonist, are forced to help your opponent, the two of you battle, you own the pathetic navi's face. Rinse, wash and repeat that 3 times, you win the tournament and progress the little "story" there is. Nothing builds up on top of anything, everything is just a trivial circumstance that compound to nothing, doing little else than waste your time to fill out the game until you get to the actual story at the end.

Oh, and it's not enough to beat the game once. Once you beat the game, you unlock more difficulties. The incentive in the higher difficulties is something that should have been provided in the main story arch by default! You unlock more cross forms for megaman by replaying through the game 2 more times! As if helping those stupid NPCs wasn't enough the first time, you're forced to go through the game again... and again!

I could take the liberation missions in battle network 5, thankfully they figured out how to tell a good story again, but battle network 4 was a major disappointment for me as a kid. I wanted it to be like a continuation of battle network 3, the story in that game was really well done.

Would Animal Crossing New Leaf count? I don't really like it's soundtrack or the fact that it's on the 3DS. It's OK, just not my favorite

I think it would, it's a game from the same franchise and same concept, so I'd think that it would count so Animal Crossing New Leaf alright.

Sonic '06

Essentially what was supposed to be Sonic Adventure 3, it was obviously not that good. Story was decent (yet had some weird moments like the very ending), and the soundtrack was good, but gameplay-wise it was broken and unenjoyable to control each character, thanks to the hundreds of glitches present, and the missions were bland and repetitive, feeling like a chore to complete. I wasn't expecting something as good as SA2 (great game IMO, although it suffered from a few glitches as well), but at the same time I wasn't expecting it to be a pile of trash and a waste of money.

Crash of the Titans

I was a bit skeptical of the Crash releases after Naughty Dog lost the furry bandicoot, but I was actually quite happy with the releases after that, from "Crash Bash" to "Crash Tag Team Racing". But then came this, along with some very controversial changes. Biggest one was Crash himself, as he was made a bit bulkier, got tattoos, and was removed of his iconic fingerless gloves (Coco didn't fair too well either)! And then there was the new monster mechanics. The new monsters felt like too much of a focus TBH. I like variety in games, especially with the swimming missions and water ski missions in the original Crash games, but these were only put in for a small fraction of the games and were paced well, and with CotT the monsters are a necessity in every level. I wasn't amused. Pretty mediocre game, but mediocre simply doesn't cut for Crash, one of gaming's best protagonists.

One of the best, ever. A vintage machine in good condition can go for around $600 or more:

One of the worst, ever. A vintage machine collector couldn't give this game away:

Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One

As much as I hate to say it. I hate where the Ratchet & Clank series is going now. A Crack In Time was the peak of the PS3 games and after that it all seems to be going downhill.

Insomniac had to make the game a shitty co-op game, and they had to change all the character designs to look absolutely retarded.

Sonic 06' - One of the worst Sonic games, of all time. This game is just an embarrassment to the Sonic game franchise.

Modern Warfare 3 - This game might be fun to some to get away from Black Ops II but, this game is just horrendous. The connection is terrible, the lag is bad, and the glitches are out of this world. Dedicated servers, please.

Black Ops II - Where do I even begin? The lag, glitches, hackers, host migrations, and we still play this game to this day. Sadly, people buy a new sequel to Black Ops or Modern Warfare every year.
