gaming What Is Your Favorite Arcade Game?

I really wish there were more arcade places around. They're always really fun!

So, simple question. What is your favorite Arcade game?

My personal favorite is After Burner Climax. The only arcade place I have got some new machines in, and After Burner was one of them. It was really fast and addictive. I couldn't stop playing it. I liked how you had to use the throttle to reach the climax mode, speed up, or slow down.

This is the machine I played: (It's really dark, but the place isn't exactly bright.)

Here's a better look at the machine.

One of my personal favorite arcade games has to be the metal slug franchise!

This franchise has been so much fun to play, despite being hard as heck!

I remember wasting so much time and hours playing these games, trying my best to beat them and getting the best score!

But without a doubt the classic and best time I had with a arcade game has to be bust a move!

This game was a heck of a good time no matter what!

I remember spending hours and mostly quarters challenging my friends and beating the puzzles!

These two arcade games will be my all time favorites from my childhood!

My favorite arcade game is and always will be Dance Dance Revolution. It was the game that put rhythm based games on the map, and has a difficulty that ranges from a-four-year-old-can-do-this to inhumanly-fast-and-redonkulosly-difficult!

Here are two videos about this awesome game!

I haven't been to many arcades, but I do love those kinds of games where you hop on a fake motorcycle and lean side to side to control your driving. Don't know what it's called though, probably because there's so many spinoffs....also, I'm so short that riding the fake motorcycle is just as fun as a real one, ha.

I know what you mean. most of those are "The Fast and The Furious" games. At least I think they are. I know I got one like that where it's supposed to be the Winter X-Games.

I can't remember the exact name of the game, but it had something to do with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (maybe it was just called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade?). All I remember is that it was a four player game but I ended up playing it by myself because all the other kids thought it was boring.

Man, I remember shoveling tokens into that machine and playing it pretty much everyday. Especially since my mom managed the Chuck E. Cheese where it was at so I got a bunch of free rounds :D

The Great Canadian Midway was my favourite arcade when I was younger. It had so many awesome games to play whenever we traveled to Niagara Falls for a holiday. I loved playing Skee-ball and the racing games. Air hockey was also a huge favourite of mine.

If you're thinking arcade game machines, then Pac-Man was great, along with the shooters.

Hmmmm....i know when i was born most arcade videogames were gone, but my favourite's ought to be the Mortal Kombat franchise. I have so many memories about when was 8 and i'd go with my dad to the arcades and kick a few rounds for the sole purpose of having fun watching the fatalities.

I haven't really played any arcade stuff since i was little honestly. Theres not a whole lot of places left with them.

I really don't remember the names of any arcade stuff I played frankly. Most of what I played was either racing games against my brother, or sometimes the occasional shooter games.

There also use to be this place that had an arcade near our house, and it had this kinda fighter type of game except it was a story mode thing. I dunno the name and its been forever since I played it, but it was enjoyable, i'm actually surprised my mom let me and my brother play that xD.

I never saw any Marvel Vs Capcom stuff or Mortal Kombat or anything like that. Dunno why.

Metal Slug on the Neo Geo, of course.

But all my local arcades only have new games. To pick from that lot:

I guess my answer would be BlazBlue (Continuum Shift Extend currently, to be specific) technically since it's an arcade game even though I play the console port, but I don't think that's quite the answer you were looking for. huh.png

The games I enjoyed playing at the arcades were Time Crisis and some Simpson's game that I can't remember the name of right now. I did sometimes mess around in Marvel vs Capcom 2 even though I sucked at all fighting games at that point in my life; I just wanted to use Mega Man and Roll. img-1369822-1-UNZJLhS.png

Definitely Xevious. That is the best fucking game ever. I don't know why I love it so much, it's just so fun. It has cool graphics, a fun challenge, and it's long as hell.

Galaga's in a close second, though.

As a kid my favorite game to play at an arcade was Air Hockey honestly, but in terms of actual arcade games, the simpsons arcade game is just way too much to ignore. You get a bunch of friends together and more cannot be had with that beat em up! Also when I was in Japan I played Mario Kart GP 2, that was pretty fun too

My favorite arcade game would have to be Galaga...

I haven't played it in a while though... I should see if I can find somewhere to play it...

GALAGA!! It love the crap outta that game and all of its versions! I unfortunately never got to play it in a real arcade though because they all went outta business around these parts. I gotta say my favorite version is arrangement. Beating that game on co-op is among some of my greatest achievements in gaming.

When I was a schoolboy, I often visited the arcade located in front of my school. I didn't have much money to play (I tried just a couple of times), but I just loved to watch other people playing, because they were better than me and they could explore all these wonderful worlds farther for me ;-) Now I'm an adult, and I can run an arcade emulator on my box to play whatever game I like, with unlimited coins ;-) So I'm re-enjoying the pleasure.

OK, so here are my favorites:

Although @ already mentioned this one, my invincible #1 goes to the whole "Metal Slug" series, for the best pixel graphics ever, marvelous levels, nice story (however it's subtly interwoven into the gameplay), and great heavy metal music:

My #2 is is "Three Wonders" (or "Wonder Three"), which is actually a three-pack: "Midnight Wonderers" (action platformer), "Chariot" (flying shooter), and "Don't Pull" (sorta similar to "Bomber Man"). The first two games are related, they're embedded in the same world, with the same heroes, but two different kinds of gameplay. I love them for their marvelous pixel art & animation, great musics, and interesting symbolism based on astrology. Here's a playthrough:

(there are three parts of this video, and don't forget to check out the "Chariot" too).

My #3 is "Magical Cat Adventure". The Japanese version had a backstory and greater graphics effects than the European one. I love the levels and pixel graphics.

Place #4 is "Toki" (Japanese version was called "JuJu Densetsu"). It's about a caveman, who's girl has been kidnapped by some powerful shaman, and he's been transformed into a monkey. I like the levels, especially the crystal cave (stage 4).

Place #5 is "Wild West C.O.W. boys from Moo Mesa", for an interesting concept: A fallen meteorite influences bulls on a farm and transforms them into cowboys ;-) Their girl (a young cow) is being kidnapped by a bull villain and they set out to escape her.

And a honorable distinction goes to "Hook". Not much for the gameplay, but it's based on a movie I very liked, about Peter Pan returning to Neverland as an adult.

As you can probably see, all those games have something in common, and you can probably see what it is: the fantastic pixel art. This is a long-forgotten art since video games gone 3D. And I always had a tremendous admiration for those pixel artists who could made such marvelous worlds with a limited palette (usually to 256 colors only), emulate some effects with palette rotation or scrolling the individual lines to make air/water waving, or some pseudo-transparency effects. Levels has been usually very detailed and you could hardly tell that those were tile maps.

That would have to be a cross between Time Killers and House of the Dead(and really any lightgun games, I was with my Mom in the mall the other day and stopped to play a round of Jurassic Park when we passed a little arcade nook that had it). I was also quite fond of the newer Gauntlet game(the 3D one that was ported to consoles as Dark Legacy). I also love beat em ups, I love to set aside a couple hours play though one on MAME every now and then.

I used to love the arcade we had in the mall as a kid. I remember Soul Calibur being the only game I stood there and played all the way through as  a kid(I think someone had gotten a hold of the settings and put it on easy because it didn't take that many tries.

When I was a kid I used to go to the arcade in the mall to play Killer Instinct, Tekken, and Soul Edge (The first game in the Soul series. Came out way before Soul Caliber did). Those are some good memoriessmile.png
