What is wrong with Twilight getting a boyfriend?

What's wrong with it is that little girls still watch this show, and little girls shouldn't get it into their heads that they need to have a boyfriend to be like Twilight or any of the other mane 6 that would have boyfriends. You should consider that little girls are impressionable and that many absolutely love ponies.

I can see where you're coming from with this, but a lot of other shows aimed at little children already have a romantic angle to the story as is. Additionally, it would not be an integral part of the series the same way it was not so much for the movie. Plus, romance was already explored somewhat during Hearts and Hoove's day. I think so long as it's not rendered as the main focus of the story in any given episode, there shouldn't be an issue.

Trying to be neutral here, making Twilight having a boyfriend contribute nothing important to the storyline.

To this I'd like to ask exactly what storyline? Each episode so far has had its own plot. MLP has never really had a continue arc that lasted more than two episodes at a time. It's very dissimilar to other series like Avatar where Books 2 and 3 in TLA had a continuous story in Ba Sing Se and to a lesser extent across the Fire Nation. The romance angle doesn't have to detract from anything in the long-run.

By taking a look at Equestria at "Equestria Girl" and seeing how superficial and fake felt the way the writers took to show the starting point of a probable relationship between Twilight Sparkle and Flash Sentry. I'd not like to see more of these thing mixed between the show, since the core itself reminds me over and over again, that the matter of the show is, and should be exclusively "Friendship" as the bond between their characters.

We already have a couple of lovers, since the first appereance of Cadence and Shinning Armor. Everything about them is just cheesy, so cursi and weird, everything about Cadence and Shinning felt fake from a realistic perspective. They aren't showing a  useful lesson regarding life, they are simply lying to the kids, due that most real relationships aren't like that.

And since a "true love" relationship would be deeper in complexity, and probably will require a lot of development between the plot to make it feel right regarding how credible it would be compared to a real life's one. It wouldn't be probable, unless you were looking for something cheesy and fake regarding credibility.

And the time that it'll take from Twilight's chapters, just to rip it off from her probable relationship and interactions with the mane six, to show instead, her new and probable plastic superficial relationship with Flash Sentry. No way, please.

I you want a lesson about love. This probably isn't the show that you are looking for.

And I know that Hasbro is a toy company that sells fake dreams and very bad designed toys for little girls, regarding MLP. Just to shove into her heads, the idea about being a princess, getting married with a prince into a happy palace. I don't want Twilight to ends like that, into a fake plot, developed just to make money out of fake ilusions designed to mislead kids into life, regarding love.

By the way, I would like the show to remain true to its tittle. So I will say "No more cheesy relationships, please" Leave Twilight in pease, she alredy has a princess tittle out of nowhere and some pair of wings because the magic of Hasbro.

She isn't the element of mechandasing and money, Hasbro. Although she looked like that during the season three finale's ending. But anyway, please, stop blowing up the plot.

Apologies for my english, it isn't my fisrt langueage.

So...I normally don't post a second time to a thread unless I'm conversing with a specific member who's responding to me...but I feel this is needed.

I am personally insulted by people saying that the only reason anyone would be against this is because they are:

1. A Flash "hater"

2. A EQG "hater"

3. Has a weird, creepy need to mate with a pony

4. Generically hates change

I thought that we, as a community, were above petty junk like that.

I have no issue with Flash. I'd love to see him in the show. As Twilight's friend. That's all.

I loved Equestria Girls. A lot more than I thought I would.

I do not have a desire for Twilight (or any pony, for that matter) to "BE MAH WAFIU!!"

I have no issue with change. I, for one, have enjoyed nearly every change they've thrown at us in this show, Twilicorn included.

If you are unable to communicate why you believe that Flash X Twilight is a good idea without insulting people, keep your mouth closed, please. It is immature and pointless.

I think my problem with Twilight having a boy friend in the show would be the balances would be off. Kind like with real relationships, sometimes we wont have a lot of times for friends. So the writers would have to to balances time with friends, boy friend, and new princess duties that Twilight maybe given.

The other problem I have with Flash is, why does he have to be Twilights boyfriend? It just seems a little fast to give Twilight a boyfriend   with out any build up.

There was an anime I watched called Smile Precure where one of the characters made friends with a boy, who was an exchange student from England. Meaning he was only going to be there for a while. Akane (the girls name) and the boy spent time together and she showed him some cool things in Japan. At the end of it Akane was kinda not sure what her feeling were towards the boy. She liked him as a friend, but she was not sure if she liked him as a boyfriend. Akane never did confuse if she like him or not and he did the same thing. They are both happy right now being friends.

So what was I talking about? O right Flash Light and ponies. So I say if they do something like what I just talked about, they should do it slow and build it up. Or just have them liking each other as friends, but not as lovers.

@@AdrianJames: Well they are kind of already doing that. Like with Spike, and Rarity, you know like making him have

googly eyes and dropping hints all the time.

Thats true and its cute. I doubt it will ever be more serious though. If you are saying they already have crushes

,then yes , I agree and I am aware of that.

My problem doesn't lie with Twilight getting a colt-friend. I actually think the Mane Six getting (even a temporary) love interest would be an excellent moral. Someone like Twilight, for instance, could easily neglect her friends under the attention of a male. So a moral of "When you get a boyfriend/girlfriend/significant other, don't forget you have other people you love in your life too."

My issue lies with how the relationship was handled. It was...what's the word I'm looking for...?

Pointless.gif

That's the one. Thank you. xD Yes, the relationship between Flash Sentry and Twilight Sparkle was incredibly pointless, as the character himself was rather bland and didn't seem like a good match for Twilight at all. *shrug* I'm not against any of the Mane Six getting a love interest, I just want to see it done right.

But still, focusing on romance in a story about friendship can be like if a salad bar suddenly served someone a t-bone steak; out-of-place, somewhat arbitrary, and not what the customer came for.

While I personally approach every salad bar hoping that there might be steak, I wholeheartedly agree with your post.

They've never truly stopped being introduced

True, we do still learn new things about the characters. However introducing a character means giving us an idea of that character: how he/she acts, thinks ect. At the end of the first episode of S1 you do have a pretty good idea of who each of the Mane Six are.

I'm kind of wondering what the hell were they thinking when they added him to the movie in the first place?

I think it is because they sort of tried to please everyone and when you do that it dosen't tend to work and I am saying this as someone who has no problem with Flash but knows that he is not as developed as could have been. Hasbro was putting pressure on them to add a love interest because the very movie itself was designed to appeal to girls who are at the age where they are likely to get a crush if they don't have one already. But they also had to contend with the "he stole my waifu crowd", people who for whatever reason are convinced that Twilight getting a boyfriend for any reason is out of character and people that are opposed to her or any of the other mane 6 having any love interest no matter what. So they had him in but didn't have too much of him which did keep some of those people at bay but also brought forth alot of people who criticize him as a bland character or even a Gary Stu.

@: I'm kind of wondering what the hell were they thinking when they added him to the movie in the first place? why the hell did they feel the need to add a lazy, lackluster love interest? lol

I honestly think that Hasbro made Meghan put him into the movie to draw in the target audience, which is teen girls. They are her boss after all and she can't just say no to them. So she probably thought something along the lines of "Okay, I don't want to so I'll do the minimum to make a love Interest and leave it at that."  So she made a bland character that we've seen in other movie and left it. I'm glade she did that no offense to her but she's not good at writing love and if we were going to get a love interest in the series she would have focused more on it.

Meghan has been their from the beginning and I'm pretty sure she wants to keep Lauren's original vision in mind (just adding a few things) and show young kids hat you don't need a significant other to be happy. There more to growing up than just love.

Meghan probably IS lieing. The've lied about almost everything (*cough cough* TWILICORN *cough*)

I can see Rainbow Dash having a really awesome boyfriend that plays sports with her. :D

Actually to my memory Megan never lied about Twilcorn. She did address the rumor which was most likely fake. It was the Hub I believe that directly said it wouldn't happen. Megan never really said it would or wouldn't occur. The correct thing to say was that they have given ambiguous statements about almost everything pertaining to what hasn't aired yet.

It should only be done if they take their time with it. I could see it working, but it would probably be better if they left that type of thing alone. However if it comes to pass you will see me at the sidelines waiting for a finished product whilst people probably make the same stupid mistake they have made at least three times now.

^^^^^ This!!

Honestly, if the movie were allowed to be more than 72 minutes long and if Meghan didn't have to worry about getting death threats for the love interest getting any deeper than it already did, then Flash Sentry probably would have been developed better. It probably would not have just been a blush fest, Flash would have gotten more lines, we would have seen Twilight and Flash interacting a little bit more, etc.

But it turned out the way it did because HOMG IF THE MOVIE HAS FIFTEEN MINUTES OF ROMANCE THEN THE WHOLE MOVIE IS ABOUT ROMANCE NOT FRIENDSHIP I AM GONNA TELL MEGHAN TO BURN IN HELL FOR HER ATROCITIES OF EVEN CONCEIVING THE IDEA OF PUTTING ROMANCE IN A SHOW ABOUT FRIENDSHIP!!!!!!!

This isn't by any means the majority, but people were hating EqG badly enough to send death threats even before the movie came out. If it was bad before the movie, and if the romance actually got developed, it would have gotten a worse reaction, despite the romance being better handled and Flash being better developed as a character.

Yeah seriously, by that same logic even DBZ could be called a mushy love fest because some of the main characters were in relationships even though it wasn't a major focus of the show. Sure I agree with people saying that romance shouldn't be shoe horned into the show just to have it but peoples fears that it in any form will automatically ruin the show no matter how it is handled especially because it has been a topic of a few episodes already is a bit silly.

One of the reason I liked the show was because it showed the girls don't need to be in a relationship to be happy. It was nice to finally see a show that didn't really deal with that BS.

It would also put more focus on Twilight who's been getting a lot lately and we don't want the show to turn into Twilight and friends. Let's leave the love to fanfics and shippers and not try to force it into a show that is doing fine without it.

But they do need relationships to be happy. Friendship is relationship. Its more similar to friendship then you think.

Why would she need friends, but not a boyfriend?

Yes, there is a lot of controversy if one of them had a boyfriend.

I mean, many theorize that the boyfriend will either A, have as much of a role as the girlfriend, or B, ruin or disturb many moments the girlfriend could have on her own.

I'd say I guess it's ok, many cartoons usually go on board with this, but in the end, I say they keep it minimal if they go for it.

So why dose she need a boyfriend? Just because she can? Nobody ever needs a significant other despite what mainstream media has told you. Do we want the show to become Twilight and friends?

Why did I type this it's pointless we'll just disagree with each other I see it differently than you and were not going to change each others minds.

I actually don't have a problem with Twilight having a love interest. As a matter of fact saying I would hate any kind of romance in the show would make me a hypocrite because I like the Spike and Rarity relationship within the show.

However, unlike the Spike and Rarity thing; this was done rather poorly. First of all Flash Sentry's introduction was rushed and his presence was pointless other than helping her get out of trouble (which was stupid on it's own) And Twilight's blushing at pony Flash Sentry just didn't make sense to me.

It's like if I met an alternate version of you then later after a while I start to like the real you.

Man I hope that awesome boyfriend would be Soarin the WonderBolt  but it could be some pony else. :muffin:

But then again, I don't think the show will be the same if any of the Mane Six other than Twily had a boyfriend.

It's sort of the reason I'm against the whole idea of any of them getting boyfriends. However as long as they can execute the relationship well and keep the boyfriends out of the center of attention; i wouldn't mind it.

One of the big issues is that there are really two Flash Sentry.

First is the Guard, but we only see him in three scenes: introducing Twilight, on duty in the castle at night, and walking in the hallway and getting bumped into. Not much to like or dislike. My guess is he's an officer (not captain, but a lower ranked officer) simply because I'd not think an average guards pony would be asked to announce a new Princess. Since he is a guard, and perhaps an officer, he's an adult and not a teenager in Equestria. Third it would sorta make sense that Twilight might be inclined to like a Guard since she's been around them her whole life, the brother she worships is the former Captain, and who else might have the balls to date a princess.

Now we have the human Flash who is a teen rocker. Again not much to say good or bad about him. He helped Twilight and made an effort to get to know her and asked her out, was rejected, but didn't give up and eventually danced with her at the big dance...big Pinky breath. Pretty much he was an average teen boy who is likely popular in the school and with the girls. We also know he dated Sunset Shimmer, but he dumped her which is a good sign I think.

The point I'm making is the human Flash has no real connection to the pony Flash, so I'm not sure if anybody can say it's a bad idea until we see more of him. Now if somepony dislikes the idea of her being romantic at all or being parred up with a guy because they "love" some writers, or their own, shipper fantasy that's different I guess. I honestly despise any of the fanon shippings, but I also dislike any fanfic that doesn't go along with the show at least to a degree. But those reasons are better than disliking a character we know nothing about.
