Wings or Fins?

Let's not forget that the sea is mostly liquids while the sky is mostly gas. Meaning that gas is far, far wider spread than the sea is. I'm not talking about the mass of the sky or sea, I'm talking about the volume it occupies. 

 

 

That may be so, but the air is much less dense than the sea, due to it being a gas, giving it a much larger apparent size.

 

I'm also assuming those masses are in kg. 

 

Also, the OP says "fins." Just fins. It never said gills. Based off of this and the larger use of wings in our society (we don't exactly have any settlements underwater, after all), I'm opting for the wings.

Although I still think the ocean is much more interesting. It still has so many mysteries. Plus I'm assuming the gills are included. Basically, I'd rather be a sea pony than a pegasus.

Fins since I really love swimming. All I need will be swimming googles, then I will dive into sea and wander around. Sounds really awesome. I think I will start with bosphorus first. Air tanks are for losers

Wings, its a no brainer, because is you took the fins, you wouldn't be able to breath for very long underwater because you'd also need gills. I have a terrible fear of heights when there is nothing between me and a 5000 ft drop, but if I had wings i wouldn't need to worry about that. I would totally jump off a cliff if someone told me too

Wings. Just Wings, Not for the purpose of Flight though, if it was taken away I wouldn't mind, I just think it would look good in general, really, but the Ability to fly would make it just simply amazing.

I'm going to assume that the fins come with the necessary abilities to make them useful, in other words gills or lungs that can much more oxygen or something. I say this because everyone is responding as if wings automatically come with flight despite there being plenty of flightless birds. It would hardly be fair if the wings could fly and the fins were only slightly better swimmers  .

 

Anyway, I'd take the fins, partly because I'm not a fan of flying (or heights) and partly because I just feel like wings just don't look as good. Plus wings seem like they would be more cumbersome than fins and the sea is way cooler than the relatively empty skies.

If the fins come with a pair of gills I would all for the fins, otherwise I would probably go for the wings. I have to admit both of the sea and sky seem like vast unexplored areas to me. Maybe I'll find Rapture if have fins or Columbia if I have wings.

I chose fins. I live in a coastal town in Florida which would make fins more useful. I would choose both if I could. Rip currents can be dangerous, also if I had wings I would not want to be picked up by a hurricane. That could throw you in some storms.

depends. if i choose fins, do i get to still breathe underwater? cause fins with no gills would be pretty useless.

flying would be kinda cool, but i honestly think the marvel of it would wear out pretty quickly. atleast with the ocean there's reefs and places to explore.

Wings. Although both are usually modified anterior limb girdles, flippers, more often than not, either include the posterior limb girdle, or even do away with it entirely, making them adaptable for aquatic or semi-aquatic habitation only. Wings usually only encompass the arms. And, depending on their structure, can be incredibly prehensile. The infant Hoatzin, for example, has grasping ability with it's first and second phalanges. These fingers then regress as the animal matures, and they shrink into small nubs that do not inhibit flight. Other modern birds have likewise been observed with such appendages, including owls, emus/ostriches/cassowaries, and parrots. Bats, on the other *hand* (pun intended  ) have fully developed use of their wings. The wings of a bat are more versatile, capable of grasping most surfaces regardless of the angle.

Wings, perhaps merely because I'm deathly afraid of some fish (Barracuda, Viperfish, etc...) and for that reason would not use fins even if I had them.

I love swimming, but if I had to pick one, I'd say wings. Get from place to place faster.
