Is there a limit in the rating of a fan fictions you'd read?

Would you read something that's only for everyone like the show? Or would you read teen rated fan fictions, or perhaps mature 18s rated?

I personally would read something that's even 18s rated, as long as it's well written and there's not something that would make me sick like incest or something.

Granted there's many fan fictions I've come across that were "mature rated", but really immature, like trollfics. However, some are very funny.

Mature stories can be very good, they can explore beyond where the show itself can never go. I mean, I've read some good mature war stories filled with hardship, suffering and death, but also hope and Ponies comforting one another in their pain and loss. And, the odd good romance stories *shifts eyes.*

I could care less what a story is rated, to be brutally honest. If it's well written and I thoroughly like it, I'll definitely enjoy it, despite the rating.

Silent Ponyville is my all time favorite fan fiction and I'm glad I found it...despite its rating...

Please don't shoot me in the face for saying this but I love HiE stories even though they're often very highly underrated. As a genre of MLP Fan fiction the gems in it are often overlooked while people focus on the bad ones. These often fall under the teen or mature content rating, so I'd say there really isn't a limit to what I read.

There's no limit for me. I think I'm capable enough to handle the more mature fanfics, and you're completely right, OP: Mature fanfics can indeed be very good. In fact, some of my favorite MLP fanfics have mature content in it. If mature content is handled correctly, it can strengthen the story. Fanfic writers don't have to hold back as much, and that way they can express their stories the way they want to. Mature content can also make a fanfic feel more real, because these things are a very real part of life. Be it grimdark or clopfics, as long as the fanfic looks interesting, I'm up for checking it out.

I love some of those fan fictions too. There's some real gems out there like Xenophilia, Her Whole Darn Heart, and even some TCB fan fictions like Not Alone or The Other Side of the Spectrum.

I ended up reading a "clopfic" to a friend of mine as I couldn't help myself but just bursting out laughing while reading it to him. He didn't know what was awaiting him as I didn't tell him the fact of the story being a clopfic.

But honestly in general I'd rather go with Teen rated content, as it usually includes some more serious things which I'm actually into, however I couldn't possibly read anything about ponies having intercourse, whether it's with eachother or even humans. That's just too much.. I mean I am kind of able to stand things like Cupcakes HD or Smile HD or such videos but clopfics just cross a line that shouldn't be crossed really (unless you're reading them to a friend, just kind of trolling him lol)

I think my favorite would have to be "A Zoologist Dream", while it's unfinished what they have so far is a mixture of dramatic and hilarious. I believe it's in the teen rating.

Anyways, there's no limit to what exactly I'd read based on content.

This, this right here. It was one of the first sets of fics I powered through(and the reason I'll shamelessly ship FlutterDash even though slash isn't really that much my thing)

As for me, I'll read about anything that's not straight up porn or gorn as long as I like the story. I even got some enjoyment out of Cheerile's Garden due to how well the psychological horror aspect was written. I tend to be a person with with really varied emotions and tastes though .

I've read Fallout: Equestria and The Immortal Game (previous title Ponies Make War), so rating obviously has no effect on whether I enjoy a story or not. If it's good, it shouldn't matter if it's written for everyone or for more mature audiences.

The hatred for HiE fics stems from the fact that a vast majority of them (or least that I've seen) are "Human character who is an obvious self-insert for the author arrives in Equestria, may/may not turn into pony, becomes great friends with all the main characters and may/may not fall in love with the character that the is the author's favorite". I may not like HiE fics, but I'll admit there are a few that carry the human tag and are worth a read, such as "Through The Eyes of Another Pony", which is so tongue-in-cheek you can't help but like it and any story where Equestria is in fact an extraterrestrial world in our general universe so humans make sense in context, like "The Arrow 18 Logs" and a few Mass Effect fics I've read.

I actually ignore the rating completely when I look for a fic to read. I just look for stories that sound interesting from their description. No matter the rating. What means that many, many fics already fail at this point here because there are many things that I'm not interested in. Then I read the first, maybe the second chapter - if it's not a oneshot - to see if the fic fits a few criteria.

Does it give hints to actually use the potential of the idea?

Is it well written? Not just grammar, but also style, of course. The latter is perhaps the most important thing then.

Is it as interesting as it sounded before I started to read it?

And then I might continue reading or not. No matter what themes the author uses to tell the story, or what rating they might give the fic.

There is no limit with me when it comes to rating. I'll read it no matter the rating. When it comes down to it though, I sometimes read fanfics with the rating for Everyone. I usually read fanfics with the rating of Teen and Mature. I like many of the stories with those two ratings and I could care less if anyone thinks less of me because of it.

I generally stick to Everyone and Teen rated fics, though I don't have anything against Mature fics on principle. It's just that they tend to either be very violent, gory and depressing, or sexual. I don't really read darkfics or clopfics unless there's a very compelling reason, but a few of my favorite stories were grimdark and very cloppy, so who knows :P?

Long story short I'll read anything, but I usually stick to the more lighthearted stuff.

I actually rather enjoy a well written Mature story! Some of them can be quite amazing, and they can go places the regular show or movie never can. A badly written Mature story, however, is no fun to read. So if anyone plans on writing a mature story, they have to do it right. I tend to read a ton of these, but only those that are written by really good authors.

As for teen, most of them are really good as well! They don't have as much cursing, which is always good in my opinion, and they can have deep moments. I read a lot of these.

Rated Everyone stories? They really need to be written by a good author. Why? Because the ability to write deep, heart-aching moments, or moments where characters fall deeply in love, or someone close to the main character is hurt, the ability to write those, without becoming too dark, or using bad language, or going too far with the romance is really hard to do! Some of the most talented writers I've read wrote stories rated Everyone. I read these most of all, because these are generally light and are the ones I am most in the mood for.

I generally stick to Everyone and Teen, but I'm willing to read Mature rated fics if the premise interests me enough.  That said, I avoid clopfics, grimdark, and gratuitously violent, gory, or sexual fics in general like the plague.  The only Mature rated fics I'd ever read would be ones with dark themes and implications, but not with very explicit dark content, and never for the dark themes themselves, but only, as I mentioned earlier, because the premise intrigued me.  As of now, I've read only a handful of Mature fics, and that's probably not going to change anytime soon.  Still, as I said, if the premise interests me enough, I am open to reading a Mature fic.

I read whatever I want to read. I don't care what other people may have rated it. It's my business if I want to read light hearted, grimdark, or erotic stories of any type. Not even just MLP related tales.

Pfft!  There's no rating limit to the fictions I would write.  :b

To be honest, I'm no huge fan of clopfics, mainly because most of them are pretty poorly-written and only focus on the sex.  However, I have found some really good stories that actually have great plots and just happen to have sex in them, and those can be quite enjoyable.

Well, generally speaking i read E fanfics, or teen fanfics. Mostly because those tend to be what i find interesting really. I don't even read that much fanfics frankly, but still.

Mature fanfics aren't really something i read, since typically speaking all they really do is end up being a big focus on sex and nothing else and thats it. Or they're really to gruesome and dark for me.

But i suppose if it interests me enough i can be fine with it, especially if its more just implied and not just like an entire chapter describing the act of sex or something sexual.

Generally speaking i'm not much into Mature fics, even if i won't totally disregard them nessarily. I am just more picky and wary with them.

But generally i read teenage or E stuff. Even if sometimes i may consider a mature fic.
