movies/tv Anybody else miss the old cartoons?

When I was younger(mid 1990s), my life was centered around cartoons like The Animaniacs and Hey Arnold. They were fresh, new, and just clean fun. Nowadays (with the exception of MLP of course), most cartoons are just a random pileup of characters, talking in almost gibberish. And the language has gotten worse on Cartoon Network shows. I may just be old-fashioned, but I get a huge hit of nostalgia when I see a clip of The Angry Beavers. Do any of you guys have that too? And if so, what shows do you miss?

Johny Bravo,Dexter's Lab,Carmen SanDiego and Tom and Jerry. Admittedly the quality on some of the shows are starting to get better, still I just can't stand Johny Test.

There were a lot of great shows that I watched when I was growing up. Rugrats, Cat Dog, Ren and Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life, Spongebob, Dexter's Laboratory, Ka-Blam, Pinkie and the Brain, Tiny Toon Adventures, Spider-Man, etc. etc. etc.

That's not to say that today's generation hasn't had some great cartoons too, though. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Chowder, Flapjack, Adventure Time, Regular Show, Kappa Mikey (imo), Avatar: The Last Airbender, etc. etc. etc.

There's always been about the same range of crap and good crap; the good stuff just tends to migrate from channel to channel, leaving some channels with nothing but crap for a year or so, only to rebound the next.

I will admit, I do like some of the new shows like Adventure Time, which has very subtle adult humor. But there are some (like Johnny Test, as said by SrFrog) that I can not stand.

There does appear to be a large consensus that believe Adventure Time,Regular Show and MlP:Fim are the pinnacle of animation at the moment. Perhaps if other shows invested that much on it's viewers we would be able to see a surge on the quality on animation projects.

I made a list the other day of passable modern cartoons...

6.) Phineas and Ferb (Just BARELY passable)

5.) The Regular Show (VERY annoying, but at times worth a chuckle)

4.) MAD! (some good parody sketches)

3.) Adventure Time! (varies in its humor, can be either really weird or really annoying)

2.) Dan Vs. (to be honest I just discovered it yesterday in Grendo's Livestream!)

1.) MLPFIM (You know this one...)

I have to say the only ones of those I actually like are Adventure Time and... well you can guess the other one. MAD! can be either crude or annoying, but sometimes good, The Regular Show sometimes gives me a laugh, but cuts it back down with how annoying some of the characters are, and I have never seen Dan Vs... What is it about?

I feel so lucky to have grown up when Nickelodeon was awesome. Rugrats, Catdog, Hey Arnold, Rocko's Modern Life, Rocket Power, The Fairly Oddparents, and early Spongebob were my cartoons of choice.

That isn't to say that Cartoon Network wasn't good back then, either; I loved Dexter's Lab and Ed Edd n' Eddy. But the difference between Nick and CN was that the latter is still pretty good today. They have Chowder, Regular Show, and Adventure Time, and all three of those are still really fun to watch.

That's really all there is to say on the matter.

I know what you mean, Joe. I loved being a 90's kid =) Nickelodeon has gone down recently and it's truly a shame to see my once favorite channel go down so hard...

Aw.

I wasn't alive yet :'(

Anyway, when I was a little bit younger, I used to stay up till midnight just to see Nick@nite with shows like The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, Rocko's Modern Life, Angry Beavers, Hey Arnold, etc. etc. :P

I wish I was born in the 80's or 90's :(

I hate my generation and their Bieber and Selena Gomez and Jessee McCartney (or however you spell his name), A.N.T. Farm, and stuff like that.

FiM is here to save the T.V.!

I loved the Cartoon Network shows! (like The Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Lab, etc.)

But I'm not living everyday in nostalgia of them, in fact I rarely think of them altogether. We still have enjoyable cartoons these days like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Regular Show.

I miss Spider-Man and TMNT(2003).

Only "children's" toons I watch nowadays are MLP and Spongebob.

Though I haven't seen the latter in awhile.

Oh, this was definitely the question I was waiting for...

What do I miss, what do I miss...

Dexter's Laboratory, Ed, Edd 'n Eddy, Codename: Kids Next Door, The Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, Two Stupid Dogs, The Jetsons, The Flinstones, Courage The Cowardly Dog, Jackie Chan Adventures, Recess, My Life as a Teenage Robot, The Fairly Odd Parents, classic Spongebob (as in Season 1 and 2, when it was actually funny), Catdog, Hey Arnold!, Rugrats, As Told By Ginger, The Wild Thornberries, Godzilla: The Animated Series, Kablam!, Oh Yeah! Cartoons, The Cartoon Cartoon Show, Cartoon Cartoon Fridays, Mina and The Count, Action League Now!, Invader Zim, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera, Ren and Stimpy, Aaaah! Real Monsters, Rocko's Modern Life, Teen Titans, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Ben 10 and a Pup Named Scooby Doo. That pretty much covers all of my favorite shows, I think.

And unlike the hipsters who think it's "cool" to like '90's cartoons without knowing anything about them, I religiously love these cartoons as if they were my life. That kind of thing will NEVER change.

Now that I think of it, the reason we have such crappy cartoons now is because of the reemergence of teen pop. Back in the early 2000s, stuff like Justin Bieber wouldn't be as popular as it is today. Because of the rise of teen pop, producers decided to follow suit and create TV shows that have horrible script writing, overly used jokes, and emphasis on (puppy) love and romance. It's just a hypothesis, but clearly, there were better TV shows in the 90s and early 00s.

I sure do. There are some good cartoons out there today though. I miss old Cartoon Network And Nickelodeon. Cartoon Network only has some good shows and Nick, well is dead. My favorite cartoon out there today is MLP FIM of course. Who remembers Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Ren And Stimpy, Rugrats, Old Spongebob, Powerpuff Girls (Lauren Faust worked on it), Dexters Laboratory, and others. Good old days. I am only 14 and I was raised on those shows.
