@, Would you care to relax and accept some mild sarcasm/joke? Also as Antony C says the fact that it's a kids show doesn't make up for bad writting/plotholes ((not that it is bad writting)). Have you ever watched Cinema Sins? That's exactly what i'm doing right now... and the fact that Discord still remainds the smartass we all know is a good thing. 

The fact that Celestia and Luna are depicted to be near godlike levels or powers should at least make them able to "Hold off" the villains until the mane 6 got the elements or found a true way to defeat them. Instead Celestia is gone in Season 1... for whatever reason maybe Nightmare Moon beat her... she didn't look like that in the end. Two Celestia left Discord's statue in her garden knowing full well that arguing in front of it might make him escape, and left the mane 6 all by themselves to handle it... She could have at least shot two beams to Discord or w/e or stand by them and remind them their purpose instead of sending back all those letters. Luna might as well be considered a traitor for not being there in the Canterlot wedding because she didn't defend her subjects. Okay maybe i am exxagerating about the "traitor" thing but still where the hell was she? Also Celestia couldn't stand at least two minutes against Chrysalis? Maybe move out of the way of the beam? Chrysalis should have won in season 2 but due to plot convinience she didn't... Also since they knew "something" was growing in the Everfree forest... why didn't they try to take it out?

All i am saying is that to us Celestia and Luna are depicted like gods but they have to be removed out of each major plot villain scheme in order to just allow the mane 6 to shine. That's a little lame...

All in all i like the episode... the flashbacks... the Princess Troll lesson Discord gave... it was all good.

I really loved the backstory information. It really did feel good to see those historical events for ourselves. Loved seeing a Discord again, I'm surprised he actually didn't do anything....until he did. I even believe he helped Twilight when he convinced her to go back. It was just in his own way. Some moments were really touching as well. Really liked how it dealt with the prime reason of the show. A little dull, but it felt good.

Today, was just awesome. No complaints coming from my end of things.

I actually just watched DOTD and I can safely say I'm heading to my local IMAX next saturday to see it on the big screen!

 

Also, did anyone else see the ads after and in between the episodes? In one of them I'm pretty sure I saw a future villian. She kinda looked like a pony Medusa with snakes dangling in her hair and all that stuff.

And also what was that... potion that Twilight drank? She used some (attention!) dark magic on it, and then it turns from purple to white. She gave it a try and then lost herself into flashback. I fell that is something much stronger than regular apple cyder -_-

Yeah I still don't really understand that Zecora said she sould use alicorn magic and then she used dark magic. But she used dark back in the crystal empire already before she became alicorn.

@,@@Malinter, You guys are derailing the thread... this is a episode critique... also every episode and show has it's sins... just search in youtube "Everything Wrong with MLP" you will find some Cinema Sins-parody videos with MLP:FiM. Really goes to show how much the show or the animators can do wrong.

Yeah, I agree with that.  Maybe the magic that was used wasn't necessarily dark magic, but the animators wanted to have some type of defining appearance different from the magic used by other unicorns.  I am not saying that this is true, just bringing up a possible argument.

I don't like rhymers anyway... but Zecora's lines sound like the writer who was good at doing her dialog didn't get renewed.  Is it just me?

In all, it's a good episode. It's better than The Crystal Empire, but worse than Return of Harmony (best two-part opener) and the pilot. PTS needs a lot more editing to solidify it snd make the writing quality convincing, and the two-parter doesn't genuinely prove the Twilicorn's worth as princess at this point. She has a ways to go, and DHX needs to show in the canon she earned it. It's on the right track, but Twilight's ascension isn't convincing quite yet. Hopefully, future episodes change that.

 

I actually agree with you for the most part, but I have to disagree about the pilot. The pilot was riddled with forced sequences and quite a few plotholes- especially the second part. The Crystal Empire wasn't fantastic, but it was better than the pilot. 

 

 

Really hoping we eventually get a premiere as solid as the one of Season 2 W.I.T.C.H., A for Anonymous.

LOVED IT!!! It was quite a complicated cannon about the elements, though. I'm quite interested to know how children found it. I didn't completely understand the the old elements of harmony but it is midnight here. Twas a fantastic return!!

Probably but they could/should have used a different animation. It's used by Sombra who isn't an alicorn.

I'm already developing a headcannon that maybe Sombra was an alicorn, and most of the magic that we see the princesses use is more personal magic... They should have used the color of the alicorn amulet.

 

 

Speaking of unicorn magic colors... Sweetybelle has the same color as Rarity.  It makes sense that they would have the same magic color since they are sisters, but how can we be sure that it wasn't Rarity affecting Sweetybelle since Sweetybelle has never used magic on-screen before?

I think it was pretty good.

We got backstory on Celestia/Luna, more on the elements of Harmony, Mane6's thoughts/concerns on Twilight's new position, and especially...Discord. What else could we ask for? Im curious about how will they handle new threats without the elements, but Im sure it'll be fine. Though since Spike went with them to the forest I was expecting him to get a slightly bigger role...

 

If I had one complain, it would be that it felt kinda...fast. There was no real "enemy" this time, and whil this isn't necesarily a bad thing, it made the particular threat seem more dangerous than it actually was. I was expecing some really big/powerful dark force to be ebhind the Everfree's invasion and Celestia's/Luna's kidnapping...but I guess that wasn't important.
