Season 4 is too overrated?

I have seen most people today are very excited to see the first two episodes of Season 4. Of course, you are! You have been waiting for so long to see the return of your beloved ponies and Mane 6. Yes, some of you even celebrate the opening with the party of Thanksgiving.

I have seen many people in the forum are to be "satisfied" or over-praising the crews. What i am about to say is likely to be a rant but also a clarification of my core expectations and what i have seen so far. I am not being judgemental at this point, because there is still a season onward. So this may conflict your viewpoints or sensitive jingoism of fandom. 

 

 

1.  New Baddass Evil Villain (Not in exsistence)

Still looking threatening!

 

Every beginning of season, there is always an appearance of different villains. Nightmare moon is great, Discord is godlikely baddass, Chrysalis is amazing and Sombra is dully nice. While season 4 in the beginning has no villain! NO VILLAIN! Those spiky plants aren't even making history, they are not threatening like dull Sombra. Sombra has the sauron voice, baddass eyes and awesome powers but these spiky plants seem to have no consciousness or reason of being evil at all. It looks like i am watching National Geographic about fictional moving plants or Indiana Jones spin off!

I know this is just the beginning but it makes me starting to worry. The crew has broken the geological order of the show, they believed that they can make things differently greater. McCarthy revealed about other new villains but never revealed about another core villain likes Discord or Nightmare moon.

I will wait at this point.

 

2. Less len flare (More lens flare)

So much LEN FLARE!!!

 

A minor expectation of the show which i am kinda sick to see really much len flares in Star Trek. Len flare does hurting my eyes quite sometimes and really annoying. But then the studio misuses len flare in the beginning in the glass room, pretty tasteless.

That is just a minor expectation! Not really matter at all.

 

3. Unique disapearance of the princesses.(Pretty unique but defying the law of physic)'

Unreasonable!!! A disgrace of the creation.

 

The last time, Chrysalis uniquely defeated Celestia then imprisoning her in the spore. I LOVE THAT Scene! Then to the season 4, the idea of being kidnapped was quite creative. I love that too but it is weird to think. How did the plants know the location to kidnap Celestia in the palace? Why Canterlot is unaffected by the spiky plants while only Ponyville does? If the plants infiltrated into the high magical secured compounds, why it still sneaked in? Beside, Celestia was in the high floor and plants only grew on land soil. How did the plant manage to grow from the deep land into the rooftop to kidnap celestia and luna without causing any damage to the castle? 

No way, it was planted on the high floor. It is unreasonable to have a plant grow from deep land to second floor secretly kidnapping your princesses without alarming the guard. 

Defiance to the law of logic and physic!

 

4. Flashbacks about the battle between princesses and brief history of Equestria (Existed, but a little misusing)

True story! I hope it won't happen to MLP

 

I have to say, i love those flashbacks tell the hidden stories of Equestria. From the discovery of Harmony to the banishment of Luna, the flashbacks are great. They have been applied really well, were illustrated excellently. 10 points for that but those flashbacks aren't much necessary helped Twi to rescue the princesses more efficiently. Those flashbacks seem like fillers, i hate fillers because they always extend the unecessary parts shouldn't be canons. But these episodes are exceptional for telling a great history which doesn't connect much to rescue Equestria and its princesses. Because Twi can easily figure it out by just following the trace of the plants without consuming the elixir of time.

I fear MLP will soon be flooded with fillers just like Naruto and anime. 

 

5. Expected Discord to return back to evil ( Not satisfied, but he helped.)

This was my expectation! But come on, he served his purpose to entertain everyone

 

Many people like me have been asking the studio to make Discord to return back to be evil and chaotic. He is awesome, great and powerful! Sadly, the term is not satisfied conditionally because it will create a plot twist. But they did do something to pay us back, Discord is getting funnier lately, but not funny enough when comparing back to previous seasons, but i can't count it out. Discord acts cordially, i am satisfied for the offer. His appearance has enlightened the mood of most people, it was Discord the one who saved those two openings from being shrouded in the darkness of plot twists and dissapointment. He has satisfied my joy although not completed my expectation or assignment.

 

6. DERPY!!! (I am filled with anger currently)

Damn Hasbro! I will reap your souls soon.

 

The most beloved character of an entire show, even more popular than Mane 6 and even Discord himself. EVEN WORSHIPPED LIKE A GOD, now is removed. The more i write about this absurd removal, the anger fills within me. The heart and soul of the show is removed by Hasbro, corporated bastard. The reason why i feel the show is tasteless currently because of her removal. For the fact, i have used slow mo technique to carefully analyze everything before writing this. NO DERPY!

I am frustrated to see, i know many people are just plainly ignorant and blindlessly following the show without much consideration and analysis. But this removal is a great hit to the fandom! The critical rampant one.

 

 

Conclusion: I know the show has many troubles currently as the crew does because of the oppressive Hasbro. I understand that, i will watch the entire season before giving my final judgement. But it seems these problems so far have equally destroyed the awesomeness of the show as well as keeping it to say awesome. In another word, it means balance. Just enjoying what you like and love, i am just suggesting that it seems most people don't care much about the problems of the show, so they just shut their eyes to the truth called reasons and expectations. Pretty much familiar to romanticism, huh?

I actually don't see a problem with any of this. I did not want Discord to be 'evil' again personally. Also, Derpy was there, near the end. She was in the crowd. The first 3 reasons here seem like nitpicking at best and in no way point to ALL of season 4 being 'overrated'. Give it time. To each their own though. I loved the premiere.

...why would I go to all the effort of photoshopping it? I added a square to highlight where she is using Paint, that's the extent of it. Go rewatch the HD version of youtube. Final scene, just after the trumpet blast.

 

Anyone who knows me on this site knows I don't give two hoots about Derpy.

 

And if I had photoshopped it, why wouldn't I go ahead and derp the eyes too? Why leave them as they are, if I really wanted to fake a Derpy sighting?

How can season 4 be overrated when its only just started? XD

 

We've only seen the first 2 parter episode. Its still far to early to start asking if its overrated.

 

Seems to have made some folks happy in that.

 

• We see Dash teaching Twilight to fly.
• No more EoH. They'll actually have to fight the bad guys now.
• Luna is still Luna.

Only questions I have about the episode itself apart from pacing and such others have mentioned are:

 

1. Why do the guardspony have no plan B.
2. Since when did the painful, dark purple magic beams count as "Alicorn" magic? I thought it was the hate fuelled magic used by Sombra to corrupt the crystals

Never thought that I'd see a season being called overrated when only two episodes have aired...but nevertheless:

 

1. There doesn't have to be a core villain for every two parter. There were several enemy creatures in the episode such as the vines, crocodile, and the plants. 
2. I thought the lens flares looked absolutely gorgeous, that's just my opinion though.
3. Ponyville is closer to the EverFree Forest than Canterlot...therefore, it will reach Ponyville first. I'm not too experienced with planting, but the plants may have grew in through the walls. Plus, they're magical plants, there's not going to be a lot of logic. 
4. The flashbacks were necessary as it delved into the past of Celestia and Luna. But it also showed the Discord scenes in the past which showed that Discord had planned to steal the tree of harmony's magic and to kidnap the princesses by using the vine/plant seeds. It just now activated however.
5. Discord doesn't need to return to evil, I'm personally fine with the way he is. He's still joking around with the other characters though so he does still cause mischief. 
6. People have already mentioned that she was in the show and her character doesn't actually have an effect on the show itself. The show wouldn't fall to pieces if she suddenly disappeared.

It's still way to early to argue if the season is even anywhere near overrated, but with that being said on it's own merit's I believe the the most recent episode(s) is just a little overrated. Now don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it a lot, but when I see people stating it was definitively the best episode of the entirety of FIM than I tend to think that it's falling into overrated territory (which is what you seem to mean, your title is a little bit on the misleading side). Overall, is season 4 overrated, buck no. Is the Season 4 opener overrated, just slightly.

Ok now I feel you are being a bit un-rational, just because you analysed the episode does not make it impossible that you missed her or mistook her for another pony. You should not go pointing fingers at someone until you have evidence that they did manipulate the photo in any way.

Discord being evil again would just be lazy on the writer's part. He didn't really change all that much anyway he is still a massive troll just on a much smaller scale. 

 

The flash backs were really underplayed, to be honest they were the parts I was looking forward to the most with all the leaks and just to see it so underused REALLY disappointed me.

 

I don't see why Derpy not being in it is really at all relevant to it being over rated. Yeah it sucks that she doesn't pop up as much as some people would like but she is a background pony and adds nothing to the story so it's not really fair to condemn the episode on her appearance in it. I don't get snippy or filled with rage just because of the lack of Luna and she is story related more often than not.

 

To be honest after missing the stream and seeing all the statuses during it last night I am really disappointed. It was Ok but not at all what it was hyped up to be it had some decent parts but lets face it the villain was for all intents and purposes a tree, I disagree the season is over rated but instead submit that the premier was over rated.

 

By no means am I saying it was not good I still enjoyed it for what it is, what I am saying is it's just not the best episode ever as many of the statuses lead me to believe. I'm sure there are some who disagree with me and love the episode and to them I say enjoy but I personally hope the rest of the season is far more worth the hype that it is sure to receive from the fandom.

 I liked your points on discord, technically he was a villain despite him being reformed I loved how they played it out and he even knew XD again though It seemed greatly rushed honestly They probably could of had a third episode minimum I also wish that they did more with the Flashbacks I loved them and how nightmare moon looked compaired to how she looked in S1 but still they could of done so much better They also decided to make twilight look like a pretty big wimp in most cases she couldn't even get away from a slowly moving aligator or a few poofing plants it seemed slightly un believable. I did however like how they lost the elements of harmony they were stupidly overpowered, kinda dumb and they relied on them way to much imo, I also like how discord is still helping? them atleast in his own way xD he also did teach twilight a very good life lesson, Another thing I didn't get is twilight forgot she had wings twice in the episode she also could of just flown over the forest and avoided most danger when returning to her friends, another thing that kinda grinds my gears is why did luna and celestia NEVER go back to check on the tree of harmony or even think of reminding the new elements it seemed greatly un believeable, same with how the two rulers of equestria got captured so easily by a small vine when twilight and rainbow dash both proved how easy they were to break

A new villain that's depicted only once, such as King Sombra, isn't much of a loss, so if the writers didn't come up with anything of substance I'm fine with a deviation from the norm. The loss of the Elements of Harmony could be interesting down the road.

I agree, most people are more excited to just see them back in action. Granted, this has the negative consequence of many judging it by overreacting one way or the other. It also helps it was a rather good pair of episodes. Excluding a few noticeable errors, it's debately one of the strongest episode(s) we've seen in quite a while, since season 2 probably, and shows that FIM might make a shift towards a slight emphasis on an overarching plot, which I greatly approve of. Still I stand by my earlier statement of it been overrated, but still a rather strong episode.

I love the "let's remove the Elements of Harmony and do something different", while "the princesses get incapacitated before they can do anything". <sigh>

 

Anyway, I hope that Discord is going to turn "chaotic" again. I hope that this and the loss of the Elements of Harmony are part of an over-arching plot over the season, along with the keys that will open that weird box in the end. I just hope that inside is not a "Twilight is fucking awesome and the rest of you are not" device.

 

Those flashbacks, in the end, turned out to be a bad idea in my opinion. They dealt with very important things that needed proper development. They added NOTHING. We already knew everything they told us and the way Luna's transformation was handled, with Celestia's reaction to it (WAAAY too harsh, from "I'm not going to fight you" to "I'll use the most powerful magic against you"). It seemed that Luna was having a temper tantrum, and not being possessed by a malevolent being.

We only just saw the premier and you are already criticizing the entire season, really? I could understand if you said that the premier is overrated because although I enjoyed it I think it kind of is but I can understand why that is the case because we did go quite a long time without a new episode. I am upset at the censorship of Derpy too but we still have her in the background, it and the appearance of Vinyl Scratch are the only good things about the season 3 finale. Just because we haven't seen any background appearances of her in the premier dosen't mean we won't in the entire season or rest of the series. That was 2 episodes and we have still have 24 more so the jury is still out on whether or not the season is going to be overrated, I am fairly optimistic about the season but the fact is even if the season is good it can still be overrated. I think you could make a strong case for the premier being overrated even though it was a strong premier, but I will admit that much of the reason I feel this way is because I am viewing season 4 much more critically thanks to my lingering doubts about twilicorn.
