Age Jerk

Has anyone ever ran into the "age jerk"? These are the people who bring up their age constantly to insult you. I've only met one, a jerk at school whose insults consist of "Stupid 14 year old" and "I'm 17, brat"

Not here but I have elsewhere but I will say this, I've seen them on sites they shouldn't really be on if they are at the ages they say they are.

Oh of course I have. One was on that awesome Haloid video (even if it was actually kelly from the novel) and I called him a 9 year old because he was asking about the crotch sparks when Samus's power armor was cut in pieces and he was going on and on and on and on about having never watched porn. As it turned out he was 13, so I told him that he needs to go watch porn and STFU. As it turns out he was from some poor villiage in asia or some shit and I just ignored him after that because his story was so stupid.

My friend who is 5 days older then me always brings it up...our conversation usually consists of me saying something and him saying I was born first.... -_- really pisses me off

I can't say I have ever met a person like that. People usually used their looks and social status to insult others at the schools I went to, never their age. It sounds idiotic though. Age really doesn't matter. A 14 year old can be more mature than a 16 or even an 18 year old at times.

Sometimes and it is really annoying. For me, most of the time it happened during a sports game. Like "I get to be captain 'cause I'm older than you". Stupid fallacy...

I've never had that happen before, and maybe because I'm 18.  I will sometimes jokingly make fun of my friend when the topic comes up that I'm 2 weeks older than him, but I never do that seriously.

I got someone who was born maybe three days before me and they constantly bring it up (even though I'm ALOT taller than them :comeatus: ) and my parents keep on saying I'm a grown up and to stop acting childish. I'm NOT past 18 yet.

In life when you are given gratitude.

Be accepting and thankful of it.

Because someday you just may be able to pass it on to others...

It's funny. Not in real life, however I've seen a few of them on the forums. Not someone I have talked to personally though

I have but almost always its people much older than me, at least 30 and up to 80+.  Sometimes even your parents and relatives are guilty of doing it, but usually not maliciously or intentionally, they usually want to help or teach what from what they experienced and learned.

u

I have rarely heard it from teenagers or even college students. A lot, if not most of the people I knew in college talk about how inexperienced they are and the adjusting. What would you brag about anyways? About how kids younger than you don't know how tough college/high school is? How you did drugs or knocked up some chick?  :eww:

I will admit, I do have a sense of elitism at times when I see younger folks, particularly undergrads. But even when I do have negative thoughts as an older person, I don't go act like a jerk in their faces and tell them how much better I am because I went through college and am older.

This really just seems very immature and stupid.

I can sometimes be one. Not all of the time, but when the topic comes up I do like to brag that I was able to buy a beer when I was only 14 without getting carded, and when I first turned 18 I was a little bit full of myself for a few days. I can't stand jr. high kids, but I only voice that opinion to people in my age group.

I can't stand kids. The only thing worse than a kid is an older person who acts like a kid.

I've found physical age somewhat unreliable in determining how much knowledge or experience one can actually pull on another person of a younger age. Experience is a more valuable marker, doing more in a short time could mean you would have more knowledge to pull authority in situations, as opposed to someone who has done less over a longer time. Life is more about quality than quantity. Things like, how much, how good, how bad, how amazing, how interesting, how unique... Can be claimed as far more important than just: How long, by itself. But of course longevity has it's place.

"Deep down in our non-violent creed is the conviction there are some things so dear, some things so precious, some things so eternally true, that they're worth dying for. And if a man happens to be 36-years-old, as I happen to be, some great truth stands before the door of his life--some great opportunity to stand up for that which is right.
A man might be afraid his home will get bombed, or he's afraid that he will lose his job, or he's afraid that he will get shot, or beat down by state troopers, and he may go on and live until he's 80. He's just as dead at 36 as he would be at 80, and the cessation of breathing in his life is merely the belated announcement of an earlier death of the spirit. He died... A man dies when he refuses to stand up for that which is right. A man dies when he refuses to stand up for justice. A man dies when he refuses to take a stand for that which is true."

-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr

Your choices and experiences in life dictate how much you can offer others in the way of knowledge. Not years under your belt, if they are empty years, you'll only get older, but no wiser. So next time someone tries to pull age on you, don't take it so hard. They've obviously not lived enough in their few extra years to realize someone younger may have lived more than them.

Oh yes when I was younger.

This bully cut in front of me in the lunch line and said "2 digit pass". Of course he was 10 and I was 9. Pretty funny now that I look back on that.

That seems rather douchey, was there any reason to do that? He doesn't seem to have done much

I hate being judged on my age. I believe character is much more important. Being judged on how old you are isn't really right. I could be a 9 year old that acts like a 15 year old or vice versa (I'm not 9 if your wondering :P )   I try to connect well with all age groups. I'm 14 but I connect well with everypony. ^_^

I usually don't, since I look older than I really am. My parents on the other hand, use it every chance they get. I just go with it, even if they are wrong, just to avoid starting a harsh argument. Though bringing it up as a backup to all your information is just stupid. I know some very intelligent teens that are acting smarter than some parents.

When I was 12 I used to play with a girl who was a year younger than me. We got along well and we never fought about age. One day she had some of her other friends who were her own age over to play with us. They didn't know me and they didn't know how old I was. I was a bit of an Applejack type at the time (not into dressing up, loved playing in the dirt, etc) but they were more Rarity types. We were all just hanging out in her bedroom and they were putting on makeup and talking about how cute Leonardo Di Caprio was. I was just sitting on the bed reading an Archie comic or something and my friend was being nice to me, but I noticed the others were acting a bit patronizing. They weren't being outright mean, but they were ignoring me and and quietly laughing because I wasn't into the makep thing. I have always looked young for my age and I could tell they thought they were older than me. Finally one of them asked me how old I was. When I said 12 they all stopped and looked shocked. They had thought I was 9! I could tell that when they thought they were older than me they were taking pleasure out of the fact that they were putting on makeup and talking about boys -acting the way they figured older girls act- and using me (a presumably younger girl) as a comparison to make them feel even older and more important. But as soon as they realized I was older than them they felt silly for having tried too hard to be "mature" considering the oldest person in the room was sitting there in ripped jeans reading comics. The funniest part was we were only a year apart (less than a year, actually) so it really made no difference.

I've seen people like that, but I don't think I've ever argued with the "age jerk". I do, however think it's stupid if someone uses age to argue. I'm young, and I can definitely say I'm more mature than some adults. I don't think age is the problem, but rather the character of the person.

Should I run past giggling at this point?

I try not to be a jerk about it. But I do mention my age on occasion in order to give context as to why my opinion is different from most of the others on this forum. Not better, just different.
