Why can't the EOH just be taken from the Tree Of harmony again?

Ok, so one thing that has kinda confused me since the end of the premier to an extent is simply this.

Why is it that the EOH can't be taken from the Tree of harmony? I understand they were put into the tree to stop the everfree from taking over and restoring its magic, but why can't they take the elements back out after that? Shouldn't the tree have its magic back now and be ok? Discords plants aren't even there to threaten it or Equestria anymore.

So how come the Elements must still remain there?

Why can't Twilight and her friends take the elements from it just as Celestia and Luna did roughly 1000 years ago?

I just can't understand why exactly, it seemed like it'd be possible if they needed.

Even if they didn't take them now, whats to say they couldn't take them back later?

The only thing i can think of is maybe the TOH needs to recharge or something, and even then the mane 6 could technically just go there and take them for a small amount of time and stop whoever they need to stop then return them.

Sure its not right on hand, but still they are usable right?

I just feel like I didn't quite get why the Elements are now unusable, don't get me wrong i liked the premier, (I like all the MLP episodes essentially, but thats another topic ;p.).

I just don't get why the Elements can't be taken from the Tree of harmony now.

So anypony have a good theory or explanation?

The Tree of Harmony was supposed to keep the Everfree Forest from expanding uncontrollably. Removing the Elements left the Tree to slowly weaken. Discord's chaos vines were also suppressed by the Tree of Harmony, so when the magic faded enough, they activated, but before the magic had weakened enough that the Everfree Forest itself would break free and start expanding. Replacing the Elements couldn't immediately negate the 1000 years of power drainage, so removing them right now would just result in the true Everfree Forest going out of control a short while later.

The chaos vines ended up being an "early warning system" that the Everfree Forest itself was about the break free of the remains of the Tree of Harmony's magic.

Perhaps the Elements can't actually recharge the tree, so removing them to use, however briefly, would eventually result in the Everfree Forest going out of control.

Finally, even if it's all well and good to remove them for short periods, they would have to keep running backwards and forwards through the Everfree Forest to fetch them. Hardly a convenient defense mechanism if you have to stall the enemy for hours while someone goes to fetch the Elements.

My theory is Twilight would have to know how to use the same technique she used to put the Elements of Harmony in the Tree of Harmony, but to take the Elements out of the tree. Celestia has to at least tell Twilight how to remove the six Elements from the tree.

The Elements of Harmony have to remain in the Tree of Harmony to, keep the Tree of Harmony active and have the magic in the Tree still remain with the Elements to help spread the magic from within.

I see, i suppose that makes sense. Does that mean that besides the chaos vines the Everfree also naturally spreads? In a similar way to the chaos vines? It does make it almost seem like the chaos vines were partially irrelevant if the tree would eventually lose its magic and the everfree spread.

And i suppose its possible the tree can't be recharged either. Hard to say right now i guess, but its apparent the elements need to remain in the tree, whatever the reason.

And i suppose thats true, depending on how fast they react to the enemy. And how long it takes them to do whatever.

Pretty good explanation i think though.

I see, so its like a special spell to insert them as well as to remove them?

Makes sense i guess, however i'd think Celestia would teach her the spell just in case, unless she already has.

Also makes me wonder where the spell to put them back came from, but its possible Celestia taught that one to, although it'd be odd how Twilight would be unaware of the tree in that case.

An interesting theory however, makes sense overall i suppose.

Celestia has yet to teach her the special spell on how to remove the Elements from the Tree of Harmony, in a later episode that ties into that might show that she teaches Twilight the spell. The spell probably came from Celestia and Luna thinking of the one way to keep the Everfree Forest from expanding and, to turn Discord to stone.

*cue Discord's point of view* Eh, I don't get it either, but the longer those ponies think they have to leave the Elements in that silly tree, the longer I'm free! AHAHAHAHA- Oh, hey Fluttershy...... I totally didn't mean that.

(Okay, I'm done being silly... I think.)

So let's think of plausible reasons the Elements have to be left in the tree...

  1. The tree needs to recharge, and if they took the Elements out right away, the Forest would start going out of control nearly immediately.
  2. The box that came out of the tree contains some uber-strong ultra Element so they won't need the old Elements anyway!
  3. Maybe the box will only stay there if the Elements are in the tree.
  4. Maybe the tree is a bit angry that the Elements were taken in the first place, and it won't give them back even if the ponies tried!
  5. Maybe, the writers made it a plot-hole to be revealed later! Who knows?

Basically, I don't know. I don't look as far into things as some of you. :P I'm just going with the flow. If they didn't take the Elements back, they didn't take the Elements back. Let's wait a few more weeks for someone to write a fanfic on the subject and I'll get back to you on that. ;)

I guess that makes sense. I guess its possible Twilight learned the spell to remove the elements from the flashback as well, not the only time she learned a spell after witnessing it only,(Dark magic in S3 premier).

;p.

All those could be possible reasons i suppose. Who knows, doesn't seem to be super clear the exact reason.

And i just like to theorize the show i guess and discuss it to understand things better dunno.

It doesn't necessarily bother me or anything. I just am curious i guess.

I suppose its a way to look at it, but me and my curious mind has to question it atleast to an extent. ;p.

I imagine a fanfic will actually be pretty possible, considering there are fanfics for like all kinds of stuff, especially cannon stuff.

Ugh! My computer won't let me quote things for some reason!

Anyway, this is in reply to you, Zygen. :)

:muffins: I do like to look deeper into the show sometimes as well! :D I'm subscribed to a ton of those people on YT that delve into the show! So, don't get me wrong when I say I don't look as deep into the show, because sometimes I do! I just find I'm not always looking at the things that other people are. For instance, if I hadn't seen this, I would have never questioned it! :P So, basically, don't take me too seriously when I say things that could sound like jabs. Especially since text doesn't capture my tone that well. Always assume I saying stuff jokingly. :derp:

Btw, have I ever told you I love your topics? Yours always seem to get me thinking. ^_^

So to stop this from being so incredibly off topic, maybe the tree has sealed them permanently into its branches! Totally non-canon? Oh well! ;)

There could be many different reasons why they can't get the elements out.

1. The Tree needs to recharge.

2. To make sure chaos plants don't grow anymore the elements most remain in the tree forever.

3. They can only be taken out once and once they are put back, they can never be taken out again.

There could be other reasons, but that's all I got.

Yay :D.

I don't make topics terribly often, but i do occasionally.

And its possible i guess, i suppose we don't really know, maybe the magic of the tree traps them within the tree, who knows.

The recharge seems to be the most common one, which makes sense mostly.

Its possible its so the chaos plants don't grow, but it seems odd considering the chaos plants seemed to have been erased almost after the EOH where put into the tree again. But who knows for sure i suppose. It was also apparently said the everfree spreads on its own without the magic of the tree, maybe the chaos plants just accelerated that growth.

And your last explanation makes sense to, a bit odd in a way, but still makes sense i suppose.

I hope they will maybe explain it a bit more later on, but who knows.

Great topic. :) Analysis is my favorite part of the fandom.

As to your question, I won't repeat what others have said, but I have a few thoughts. First, I think Luna was right when she questioned Celestia about removing the Elements from the tree. Yes they didn't know about the plunder seeds, and needed the Elements, but there was a price to be paid for using them. I also keep thinking about the discussion between Twilight and her friends about the Elements. They were really disturbed by the thought of giving them up and maybe the role they felt they played in society. Twilight had the wisdom to know that the Elements were just symbols and the Mane 6 and their friendships were what really protected Equestria and kept them together. Twilight reinforced that idea when she said in Daring Don't they wouldn't be who they are if they didn't help.

Thank you :).

And i guess thats true, because really taking the elements was a risk as it left the forest unprotected. But i suppose at that point it was a risk willing to be taken.

I suppose they paid the price sorta.

and yeah i basically agree with you for the most part, interesting observations.

You're welcome and thank you. Luna's concern proved prophetic and Celestia was a too glib. Meghan might have been better to have made her younger and more unsure of herself.

I guess maybe, but i think the reason Celestia and Luna appear that way has to do with how Twilight knows them.

just a theory on that.

The Elements of Harmony clashed with the library's decor and took up some floor space Twilight wanted back.

Nah. Nothing was said that indicates to me the Elements are now inaccessible to the Mane 6 should they be required again. Leaving them in the tree is as good an option as any, I suppose, even after the Everfree Forest has been tamed. Anyone looking to take them for nefarious purposes or to keep them away from the Mane 6 shouldn't be able to extract them. Might be that the Elements no longer need to be in possession of the Mane 6 in order for them to avail themselves of their power. Who knows. That'll probably be touched upon sometime later.

;p possible theory...

And idk, i guess while it wasn't explicitly stated they do react quite harshly to Twilight saying they should give the tree the elements, makes it seem like they can't have them back or something.

But i guess its a nice safe spot to have them. I dunno if someone could use it with nefarious purpose, but thats another discussion.

Its possible they could use it without the elements, but idk.

And yeah, i assume it'll be touched on later, probably much later in the season, but i imagine sometime.
