That is a rather adorable picture of the little guy.

 

While I do like Spike, I feel that he's been somewhat underutilized on the show as of late. Even in the first season when everypony would pop up everywhere in almost every episode, he rarely showed his face other than for a few brief moments in the limelight. Possibly his best episode of the first season, Owl's Well That Ends Well, isn't even all that liked by most pony fans. (Personally I like it, but I know I'm in the minority on that one.)

 

I also admit that I find him harder to understand than the Mane Six...perhaps it's just because he's a little boy, or perhaps it's because we don't see him that often, but I find his character difficult to grasp. Having tried my hand at writing more than a few times, I find him an extremely difficult character to write for because he's...I wouldn't necessarily say super complicated, but certainly sufficiently divorced from my own mindset that I can't quite get a handle on him. I even attempted to write an analysis for the little guy and said analysis wasn't worth reading at all, believe me. (Though I do plan on attempting it again after the season is over.)

 

Despite the fact that he's a little boy, he does have his own complexity, and comes alive when he does get the chance to shine. He's had some really hilarious moments in the show. I think if I had to pick an all time favorite Spike moment, it'd easily be this:

Spike is certainly an interesting character, to say the least. He doesn't show up very much, but his lines are written to the situations so perfectly. Sometimes he's just comic relief, but there's probably more to his character than just that.

Spike to me is like the r2-d2 and c3po of mlp. He always seems to be with the main characters, but more as an onlooker making jokes. Thats what makes him funny imo. Besides, hes awesome enough to be my proficle pic
