One of the things I like to do is to collect old technology, in particular, reel to reel tape recorders. I recently decided to pull one of them out, and recorded a very familiar song on it from my PC:

I wish I could get more of these, but they are very heavy to ship. The one in the video weighs at least fifteen pounds, and portable ones don't have great quality. Reel to reels weren't widely used by consumers after the cassette tape was invented, and that was in 1963, so...

For some odd reasons I got the image of this playing over 1940s radios and speakers.

That's pretty dang neat :P

So we'll send the tape to the past and they'll believe in the future the world is controled by Weather making ponies

Heh, part of the reason I like recording modern songs on old media is because I like to imagine people finding these decades down the road and being utterly confused.

This player, like others of the time period, had two options for recording. One setting can record at a speed of 3-3/4 inches per second, the other at 7-1/2 inches per second. This song is recorded at the latter speed for purposes of fidelity, 3-3/4 IPS was usually only used for recording speech. Recording at one speed and playing back at the other either causes chipmunk or hilariously baritone voices.

BY CELESTIA. I just noticed that if you ponify anything(almost?) it becomes 20% cooler! Thanks for sharing this! I must now try harder to ponify everything around me!

Great adventuring for great treasures!....Except when I'm hurt...

Good morning Mister Phelps...

This tape will self-destruct in five seconds.
