Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.

True, Story Mode is boring and depressing pretty much all the way through, but Mission Mode is fun and arcadey.

This. I loved this game, and I have to say it's actually one of my favorite Kingdom Hearts games.

Wow, other people besides me have actually played god hand? Sweet! I actually have some fond memories of that game, and it was pretty fun to send thugs flying too. And since no one has mentioned it yet, "shadowrun" for PC and xbox 360. It's better then any CoD game that's for sure.

Definitly agreeing with Cry of Fear. Best horror game I have ever played.

But im also adding Earthbound. It seems alot of people have heard of it, but very few have actully played it.

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents... some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age.”

Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery - few people have played this, I thought it was great for a pixel game

Gone Home - amazing game, amazing story, super easy to pick up and play

I wouldn't count No More Heroes 2 as under-rated, it made the Game Informer top ten Wii games list and is considered one of the must-have games on the console.

I'm going to have to go with Kingdom Hearts, no a days it's usually mocked for it's fangirls and ignored, but it's actually pretty good. It helps that it came out when I was a kid and I remember when it was this huge ground-breaking game everyone wanted because the idea of a Final Fantasy and Disney crossover seemed to good to be true.

Also, Starfox Adventures. People like to bash it for not being like the other games, when it's actually pretty damn good if judged on it's own merits.

Let's start off with the bombshell here.

Sonic '06.

Oh, don't get me wrong. It was a bad game. The controls were mediocre at best, the glitches were ungodly painful, the Silver battle was downright laughable with how poorly it was executed, the story sucked, and that's why it's a terrible- Oh crap, I'm missing my own point.

Yes, it has all of those flaws, and it's a bad, BAD game, but GOD, it isn't so bad that people need to preach its suckiness. At the very least, it's laughably bad, and I still play it from time to time.

Now, in the less-traditional use of the term underrated, to speak of games people don't necessarily hate and may even like but absolutely no one plays, I'd like to tell you about the greatest series of platformers ever conceived, Klonoa.

...

... Okay, maybe they aren't THAT good, but the main series games are honestly my favorite platformers of all time. The characters are amazing, the stories, though not perfect, get the job done and provide a fun and interesting experience, the music is top-notch, the gameplay is perfect, the music is ALWAYS superb, and the artstyle is CUTE AS HELL. Not to mention, it can have some genuinely powerful and touching moments throughout that would make you surprised you're playing a game about an adorable cat-in-a-cap with Pacman on said cap.

Seriously, the games are so unknown it should be a crime. Especially the first game, Door to Phantomile. Seriously, it's six bucks on the PSStore, you'd think it would have a LITTLE more of a fanbase...

Come on, I really want a Klonoa 3, guys...

Spec Ops: The Line

Spec Ops: The Line

Come on, after Yahtzee put it on a pedestal as the "greatest game of 2012", I don't think there's a soul in the community who hasn't at least heard of it. It's hardly underrated, it's just a good game with a great story that achieved success with exactly the niche it was shooting for.

IMO, Alpha Protocol is the absolute most underrated game ever made. It's a stunningly well-thought-out stealth action RPG with excellent characters and engrossing gameplay, but it was sentenced to life below the radar just because it was buggy.

Not even buggy in an unfinished sense, or a game-breaking sense, like Bethesda is so often able to brazenly get away with, just the general sort of bugs, AI issues, and balance problems that don't even affect the gameplay too much.

What pisses me off the most is how reviewers would just resort to unabashedly lying about problems with the game when they couldn't think of any legitimate ones. Gametrailers claimed that the pistol was ridiculously inaccurate, when in fact it was easily the most accurate and overpowered weapon in the entire game. Angry Joe claimed the game was too hard... after he deliberately ramped it up to hard, started with 0 skill points, and tried to specialize in situational (not to mention loud) SMGs. And Jim Sterling... I have no idea what he was on when he claimed the game was rendered "unplayable" by control flaws, when said control flaws simply didn't exist in any capacity.

Okami was criminally overlooked! :okiedokielokie:

Also Skies of Arcadia, why does no-one remember this awesome game anymore? :(

that's cute- Okamiden

Okamiden-title.jpg

amazing how those guys, with a more limited hardware, made a game as fantastic as it's predecessor, but sadly, EVEN more overlooked than Okami

other underrated games:

-zelda spirit tracks: yeah, I only heard ocarina ocarina, now Twilight twilight princess, FUCKING SPIRIT TRACKS WAY BETTER THAN TEILIGHT PRINCESS

-Demon's Crests: pretty overlooked game, and it's much better than any gargoyle's quest, with a dark, but fantastic soundtrack

-Castlevania Order of Ecclesia: yeah, it's true that CV series was decaying before Lords of Shadow, but OoE was undoubtedly, the one of the best metroidvanias ever, with many different environments instead of exploring a castle the whole game, it's hard, and a female lead, who is not related to other leads in any way

-Castlevania Lament of Innocence: ok, it's not as good as Lords of Shadow, true, but damn hell, it a lot better than I expected, it didn't deserved to be overlooked as it is

-Doom 64: just different graphics, that's all, but it's the same gameplay as Doom and Doom 2. aside of being in the N64, how it was so overlooked is beyond me
