technology Desprate to become admin.

I'm crying now, because of our school.

I personally believe, that if it is on a computer, no matter how hard it may be, or how bad you need to get, there is always a way to do specific things when it comes to hacking (good or bad).

Our school is WAY over protective with blocking stuff on the computers. I don't think they actually tried (cuz they got a new system and it's all messed up) but it's so bad, you aren't even allowed to change the volume on the computer without the administrator password.

Well I have a friend who uses CMD, and has a past with it. I got curious, and looked into it, and loved it. I've been in it for really only a few weeks, but I learned quite a bit by self-taught, and tutorials off of YouTube and stuff. Well what I wanted to do, was set my name in the domain as an administrator just so I could at least change my volume. I have no intention for using the power for bad. But problem is, I can't get to this point.

I have tried countless amount of tricks to get a CMD that runs as an administrator, but all attempts end in error 5-access denied. But I haven't given up. I still believe there has to be SOMETHING out there that can be done. I've looked at ways around error 5, and all are blocked. I got really close at times, but right before it opens, a pop up wanting admin password came up.

So now I am desperate, and this has become a thing of me just wanting to beat this challenge. I don't want to loose at this! So does anybody have any ideas of things that can be done. Preferably things that don't leave a mark (meaning there won't be evidence left to get busted). I do have access to a teacher computer actually, but I'm not sure if that matters. I haven't tried. I'm just so desperate, I'm almost willing to do anything, in a way where I can get away with it. Obviously that still has to apply. Any idea on what could help? And it might actually have to be deep, because it has to be something they haven't thought of already.

How about speaking to the people who put these blocks and such on the computers and discuss your issues? it's probably not a good idea to start pushing your luck on school computers.

Another thing if it's at school, who cares? school is for learning and getting some grades, home is where you can get on your computer and change the settings till the cows come home

Error 5 is famous for being extremely tough to get around. Hell, I used to be you, trying to generate an admin account and being met with Error 5 in each attempt. ;) Basically, the account you're CMDing from is too short on permissions to do anything. I don't know the specifics of your case, so if you're really set in your mind that you want an admin account just to change your volume, use the teacher account (to at least have some deviation in permissions) and try again.

On a side note, please, be careful with what you do on your school's system. As the user above rightly says, contacting your school's systems admin is far more feasible. They could have snoopers that you don't know about, and the last thing you want is to be expelled.

This isn't the sort of thing you should be hacking your school security policies over... If you just want to change your volume, might I suggest a pair of headphones with a volume limiter on it? You could also carry around a Linux live CD and boot off of that I suppose... Just don't touch the hard drive if you choose that option.

Tell me about it, the local AEA here(they control the filter for all the school networks) had Youtube blocked at one point when I was in High School until the teachers that used it to show the class videos of debates and things yelled enough to get it unblocked again.

Shit, one of the reasons our filter could give for blocking was "spirits/paranormal" that's how bad the thing was. I couldn't even get on websites for things like paranormal research or cryptozoology.

I wouldn't bother about it. Most schools are spying on there students to see what they are doing. Trying to hack into administrator school accounts, is about one of the last things you want to be caught doing.

Although I'm above average when it comes to computers, even the CMD use is limited for me. I actually know how powerful tool it can be of course. But what you're doing is actually beyond my knowledge. Alternatively since I actually wouldn't think of hacking a network. Since it's a school computer, you might be able to make bart disc http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ and build one based on the schools hardware. The problem would be finding out happens when it tries to get internet access. Don't know if you know about it, but Ethereal is a packet sniffer and in the bart pe environment might give you some advantage in trying to figure out passwords to the network. It's more of an old timer trick but sometimes, that's what it takes to get the job done. Is going old school.... *zing*

Why hasn't Spotflux been mentioned yet?

Any who, as you probably already know avoiding the school policy will result in consequences so any action would be risky.

I have a friend who has Spotflux on his USB stick and he goes on whatever website he pleases. It also keeps your browsing private. You should be able to change sound settings than too.

But you must be careful of programs like "Lanschool" on the computer, they can not only see what you are doing, but if the company of Lanschool finds out what you did it is possible they can also start a lawsuit. Not too fun.

Personally, I would walk up to whoever is in charge, and follow the following steps:

  1. ask politely for them to let you at least change the volume for more efficient learning
  2. if they say no, go to higher control
  3. if they also say no, start a petition
  4. if all else fails, sue them, most cases against school districts are won by the persecutor
  5. if all all else fails, give the guy in charge a good smack in the face

Well I'll try it when I can. But don't worry, I am well aware of the risks, and possible punishments of my doing. But if I was afraid to take them, then I wouldn't be here today.
