We all know there are countless Final Fantasy games

SO, I've made a poll to see which ones people like out of the many games.

The poll is multiple choice, so choose ALL the ones you like!

This'll be fun. :P

I've only ever played X and XIII, and I've yet to finish XIII. But it's pretty fun, not enough data to pick a favorite, plus it's been years since I played X. I'm not usually drawn towards this style of game but something about these two grabbed me enough to play as a time killer. I think my experiences watching friends play the older ones turned me off until the play style changed some.

I'm really debating getting a PS Vita and X/X-2, or I might just buy it on the PS3, who knows. I think having it portable would be awesome, unless a lot of stuff is missing to fit it on the Vita.

I haven't played any outside of the main series yet, but my favorites in order of the ones I played would probably go like this...

10. Final Fantasy (NES)

 9. Final Fantasy IX

 8. Final Fantasy III

 7. Final Fantasy II

 6. Final Fantasy VII

 5. Final Fantasy VI

 4. Final Fantasy IV

 3. Final Fantasy V

 2. Final Fantasy VIII

 1. Final Fantasy X

It's tough because I like all of the games. :( Also, I still need to finish X-2 and XII.

My favorites are IX, XII, Dirge of Cerberus, the first Crystal Chronicles and Tactics.

Most of the other ones I don't typically rank cuz how I feel about them changes pretty much constantly.

There's still some I've yet to play like Crisis Core, most of the pre-VI era, Dissidia (I have the first but only played it for five minutes...I'll get back to it eventually. ), the MMOs and Chocobo Dungeon.

I've barely played any of XIII-2 because my PS3 is dying and I don't want it to die when I get near the end of the game or anything. So obviously I haven't played Lightning Returns yet.

Calling it now: Final Fantasy XV is gonna be the best Final Fantasy ever though. It looks so amazing and it seems to be taking a lot of gameplay inspiration from the Kingdom Hearts series (which I love more than any FF).

I'm actually a really big fan of Mystic Quest for the SNES. Even though it's a lot more simple than main series Final Fantasy games, it's still really fun and the soundtrack is amazing.

For my favorite main series games, I'm going to go with: VI, X, VIII, and I in that order. I haven't played IV, anything past X, or a lot of the games outside the main series, but they are on my to do list. On a side note, The Sunleth Waterscape from Final Fantasy XIII is probably my favorite song from the series.

XII is my favorite. I love the characters and the huge amount of side quests, which are a good break from the main storyline and a good chance to level up. I played a little of XIII but never finished it and I'd like to pick up A Realm Reborn but I don't want to pay monthly for it :okiedokielokie:

I'm not one to take on superbosses so I didn't even bother with a bunch of FFXII's harder hunts. Once I had all that trouble with the white Chocobo I didn't really care to do any others.

Of course, I mostly did hunts that I could overpower by going through the game naturally. I never tried to do the "proper" strategies. Someday I'll go back and do those. :D

That white Chocobo one is just annoying :okiedokielokie: but you have absolutely no idea what a superboss is really meant to be until you've faced down Omega MKXII or Yiazmat  the latter of which took me about 8 hours of non-stop fighting to bring down...

I know I'm about to be hit with a truck load of Kefka fanboys but... VII is my favorite, although if only for the story.

As for gameplay, Lightning Returns has already topped my list when it comes to combat.

"Q'sal, a singular, labyrinthine mind composed of a billion conflicting, paradoxical wills. Have you ever seen the swirling Aetherstorms in it's atmosphere? Smelled the shifting perfumes of intrigue upon it's people? Tasted the gluttonous banquets of ambition permeating from the Sorcerer-Technocrats? Heard the exquisite lies and thoughts of an unknowable population? No Slaaneshi pleasure I have indulged in comes close to that feeling, only in the embrace of Apotheosis could one aspire to find anything greater."

I know of their existence but it seems to me those fights aren't so much hard as they are long. Hitoshura in Digital Devil Saga seems to be the hardest RPG fight I've ever heard of but I've not fought him myself yet. :P

Final Fantasy VIII

Final Fantasy IX

Dissidia (both of them and I really want another)

VI.  Amazingly ambitious for the system it was on.  A real epic dealing with loss, betrayal and the consequences of abusing natures gifts.

It has a good over theme and story.  Steampunk turned Post-apocolyptic.  The opera scene, the destruction of the world and the epic climax scaling Kefkas tower of debri and trash to dethrone him as ruler of the world.

Gonna basically sum up why the storytelling in this was so much more effective then in let's say, XIII.

SPOILERS

Let's talk about a weighty subject than needs to be handled with maturity.  Suicide.

Both VI and XIII have a suicide attempt scene.  One handles it well, and one handles it poorly.

In VI, the character Celes turns her back on her friends at a key moment in the story and this played a part in the chain of events that led to the destruction of the planet.  It's implied that a good chunk of the worlds population is dead.  She has a lot of blood on her hands.  When she wakes up from the cataclysm she is alone on an island with her uncle.  The water, the fish, the vegetation.  Everything is poison.  Her uncle is sick and she attempts to nurse him back to health inadvertently killing him.  So her actions killed a ton of people, she believes her friends are dead because of her, she just accidentally killed her uncle and she is no left alone to die slowly on an island.  She then proceeds to go to a cliff side and throw herself off it.  This is a very believable hopeless scenario where suicide might seem like the least painful ending for her.  You get her pain.

In XIII Sazh loses his son.  It's not well explained but it's clear he believes he's not getting him back and he deeply cares for him.  When he discovers Vanille is responsible he pulls his gun on her, and while he later tells himself he shouldn't kill kids, the fact that he considered shooting a young girl makes me lose sympathy with him.  In a fake out he attempts to shoot himself.  Cut away to force drama rather than let character dynamic play out, then the next scene we see him he's fighting an Eidolon and we get this moment destroying shot of him driving around in his summon monster go-kart yelling and cheering in joy.  Yeah... he attempted murder then suicide earlier and now he's happy he has a new car...

If anyone took the time to read this and agrees with me, thank you.  Because I feel these scenes perfectly contrast why the series was much better with it's characters in the past.

VI was the very last FF game I played where the characters seemed like something more than cardboard cutouts of insufferable anime tropes. Terra, one of the only main characters in the entire series who doesn't fit the generic "brooding emo badass" (Squall, Cloud) or "reckless hothead" (Zidane, Tidus, Snow) archetypes - and one of the few female characters in the series other than Celes who doesn't fit the "perky young jailbait" (Yuffie, Selphie, Rikku, Penelo, Vanille) and "bimbo with a megaton rack" (y'all know who I'm talking about) archetypes - is by far the most relatable and realistic portrayal of a human being I've come across while playing this series.

And that's saying quite a lot for a game that was made in '94.

...

...Now have an adorable Terra pony.

EDIT: Because it'd be a crime for me not to mention it, FFVI had one of THE best soundtracks in the entire series, pushing SNES soundfonts to their very limits.
