Why did Rainbow Dash lack the knowledge of hands ?

At the end of Equestria Girls, Rainbow Dash questions what hands are when Twilight says that Sunset Shimmer is in good hands, why would she not know what they are ? I know the line was probably for comedic reasons, but how did she not know ? What about characters who don't have hooves like Spike or Discord ? Don't they have hands ? Note:I liked Equestria Girls

Maybe she knows what they are, just not their particular name. It'd be like me knowing the exact name of a fish's fins

She may have been confused by the word 'hands', not the concept of hands. Rainbow doesn't exactly have a wide vocabulary, at least not at the beginning, and in the show, comics, and novels the characters tend to use 'claws', 'paws', 'talons', etc. for creatures that don't have hooves.

Doesn't spike have hands?

Every time his hands are referred to, they use the term 'claws'. This actually makes sense from a pony point of view, since they have solid hooves their attention might be drawn to the 'finger'-equivalent rather than the entire assembly.

I think it was just for comic relief because they say hands multiple times in the show, even the episode before the move Apple Jack sings "Could ya'll give me a hand here and help me fix this mess" Twilight asks spike to give her a hand a few times ect.

@@Sobori,

Twilight and AJ are more educated than Rainbow Dash, Twilight being a nerd and AJ having lived in the city. On the other hand, Rainbow is a half illiterate tool who wouldn't know the technical term for those weird things that dragons have

Well it was probably for comedic reasons. Even if humans don't exist in Equestria, hands do. Something that (I think) all primates have in common is hands. There are monkeys in Equestria. Fluttershy noted that there was a spider monkey at the garden at Canterlot Castle.

So hands do exist in Equestria. There's no reason Dashie shouldn't have known about hands :P

Perhaps it was not the existance of hands that confused her, but the context. From a pony perspective, the term "in good hooves" would be more common, so Twilight saying "in good hands" may have seemed absurd to Rainbow Dash, and her confusion at the phrase may have been mistaken for confusion at the concept of hands. It would be much like the reaction to "anypony" in the human world.

It was a throw away line of comic dialog. A lot of bronies seem to want to attach deep meaning to every word spoken in the movie, or episodes of the show.

Would discord have a paw/claw/talon?

Have we seen anything like a great ape in Equestria? They are the only thing I can think of that have hand hands besides humans. Even then they can call them "paws". It's not too out there that the term "hand" is alien.

I think probably the vocabulary in Equestria could be different to those by us humans and this can probably allude to the fact that none of the ponies, until Equestria Girls, had any knowledge of humans and Rainbow probably knows that "hand" in the minds of dragons, birds and even Discord to be claws/paws/talons in some cases instead of hands from humans.

I actually laughed when she said that.  And like everyone said above, Applejack did say, "Could y'all give me a hand here, and help me fix this mess", Spike has hands, etc.  For her to not know that, its quite confusing.

It was just a really stupid joke. After all, she's a huge Daring Do nerd, and Ahuizotl has hands. He even has an extra one on his tail! I'm pretty sure that would've been written in one of those books somewhere.

I think it was implied as a joke, since they usually say everything as "everypony" and "lend me a hoof", it was quite clever.

I remember in the theater when Dashie said it, everyone bursted out laughing, myself included! ^^

But you know who wouldn't lack the knowledge of hands?

Lyra.

;D

I'm sure it was just a joke, rather an thought about part of the story.

They probably didn't think as much of it when they made it as we are now :P

If you actually took the time to read my forum post, I thank

Love you Dashie
