Where are you from and what is controversial there?

Just by glancing through the thread, what's with all the California bronies. I was born in California but I moved to Illinois when I was 2.

Yeah I live in northern Illinois in the Chicago area. Not specifying any town though.

Not much controversy here though my high school did have a mascot controversy over being offensive toward an Indian tribe but that's it.

Nah, where I live, it's very thug and strict like, but meeting somewhere close would be cool! :)

Definitely! Socal Bronies is a meetup group, by the way. You should join!

I live in Arizona where immigration is huge, marijuana is "legal?", and just recently a bill passed where people of the LGBT community can be denied service in religious businesses.

Well, that's a very nice thing to say. It also makes me look bad, for anyone that reads that, and not my original post.

Please take your disrespect back to the 'Chon, where it has at least a small chance of being received well.

I hope to god I don't meet any people like you when I travel to the Northwestern United States this summer. I'm guessing you're contributing to the stereotype that people on the East Coast are rude and disrespectful.

Nothing wrong with that medical *snicker* marijuana. How would you meet a North-Easterner in the North-west unless you're actively looking for them? (don't!we're-all-dicks)

Anyone who doesn't support gay marriage is a bigot, huh? Then what does that make the people who do, saints?

No, but it means they aren't trying to keep rights away from other people based on their beliefs. You have to realize that there's a difference between standing up for your beliefs and actively forcing them on someone else.

You don't see Jewish people trying to outlaw pork for everyone, so they should Christians that are against homosexuality try and force that on people that may not share that belief?

On topic, I live in Iowa and the biggest problem here the local governments handling money like an excited child that just found a $100 bill laying on the sidewalk. Also, all the cool fireworks are illegal.

Yeah, I heard about this new bill being passed and I just couldn't believe it. I knew America, especially the southern states, were a lot more homophobic than a lot of places in Britain and Europe but this is just ridiculous. I thought the US was making some progress in becoming a less bigoted, secular, better educated country but apparently not Arizona

Because 90% of religion in the west that's vocal about it is. I say that AS a Christian because I hate idiot fundies making me look bad by association.

I have no idea what that's implying because I'm not LGBT....

I hail from California, and the question should be more like, What isn't controversial here? Everything from religion and politics to scientific opinion/theory/fact is controversial here. It's pretty much impossible to talk to people unless you congregate with like-minded beings, like at church or something.

Staten Island, NY

We've been dealing with being the "forgotten borough" for years. Economic development has stagnated since the factories left and was replaced by retail sites such as Target (Wal-Mart meets heavy opposition when they try to open here, but there's one just a couple of miles from the Island now in Bayonne, NJ). Companies here have fallen on hard times, including the international container terminal which many shipping lines have abandoned and just recently Atlantic Express, a bus company and one of the largest Staten Island-based companies, had gone under.

The county's rate of growth during the 2000s has taken a toll on our transportation infrastructure, which has expanded little to keep up with the rate of growth. This is contributing to our new negative growth rate, with popular relocation destinations being New Jersey, the Poconos, and Charlotte, NC, among others.

There have been many construction and economic revitalization projects planned, but most of them have been abandoned, while others never seem to end. One of the most important is raising the Bayonne Bridge to allow post-Panamax ships to access Port Newark, however the Port Authority's bureaucratic incompetence has not made any progress apparent. There is also the seemingly infinite HOV lane project on the Staten Island Expressway. The only economic revitalization project that has been given the go-ahead was the "New York Wheel" and "Empire Outlets", a combination of the next "world's largest Ferris wheel" and an outlet mall designed to keep tourists occupied after getting off the Ferry.

The number one thing here as with the rest of the city is how out of touch the new mayor is setting up to be. He kept the schools open in NEAR-BLIZZARD conditions and now it's been revealed that his security detail has engaged in dangerous driving.

We've also been getting the worst of the extreme weather in the city, from the hurricane to the frequent snowstorms.

It takes us 2 hours to get to work, but we have great pizza, so why complain?
