I hate that the existence and prevalence of Mary Sues drives so many people to assume that most OCs are Mary Sues, that people will rip your OC without even knowing anything because of this bigotry, for lack of a better term. It really gives us Bronies, OC artists, and fanfic writers a bad name and exposes a sense of elitism and hypocrisy when the same people hold this feeling toward OCs that actually have potential while worshipping others like Sibsy's Wild Fire or any other popular ones I might be missing.

No offense but I really dislike any character thats Mary Sue. Its like they're not even normal because they have no slight imperfections 'bout them.

Imperfections builds character, Mary Sues have too many perfections so they're boring to play as. Mary Sues don't exist in real life, so they would they in a roleplay? I mean look at Twilight Sparkle,

The reason I dont like them is due to the fact they mostly have poor stories, and ruin the fun out of alot of rps.

Don't rag on people for them unless they're ignorant and refuse to take advice on how to make them better

 

And do tell me which Mary Sues are likable because they make horrible plot devices. Don't being up Superman, by definition, a Mary Sue is someone with no flaws(or adorable flaws) who never faces any challenges and if they do, resolve them in seconds

They are terrible most of the time. If they are somehow good and contribute something positive to a roleplay, I believe that disqualifies them from being a Mary Sue.

Yes and no. Twilight us a Mary Sue insofar as a lot of the personality of the creator probably went into her, but she was professional enough not to make her perfect.

 

What are you talking about!? You just said she wasn't perfect and faces challenges created by the world around her, that makes her ineligible for the title of Mary Sue by definition. It has nothing to do with the creator's personality being used as a stand-in.

There you have it! Seriously though, I wasn't thinking of Supes. I like the Superman franchise (although they can get a bit unoriginal at times), and I can't wait for the next Man of Steel. I was just trying to be funny, and make people wonder who I was thinking of. I swear that's all that happened!

Also, I find them terrible when it falls along the lines of this person's bit, as legitimate challenges and stakes are where I draw a lot of interest from plots/stories/settings.

Indeed; however, Superman did set a new defenition for Mary Sue/Gary Stu, when Superman Prime showed up. There's a reason he was used like once or twice.

A Mary Sue is terrible by definition; if you can create interesting stories about your powerful character, it isn't a Mary Sue.
