I think the new writer could probably pull it off, sure this new writer is new to us but maybe she can pull it off. So, what I'm saying is even when the episode is written by a new writer it could surprise us in some way.

I had the impression he was on a sabbatical of sorts while pursuing other work. For instance, I know Larson mentioned he was trying to get a book published. His comments throughout Season 4 suggests he still had some tacit involvement in the writing process.

Series only tend to stagnate when they keep the same talent over a prolonged period of time. The writers get burnt out and the show becomes dull and predictable. Simpsons and Spongebob could still be great if they brought people in who really, really cared.

 

Keep bringing new writers in. They all have something to add.
