One of my favorite MLP episodes. It really introduced a unique character in Maud Pie. I also liked the irony that happened when Maud said she doesn't show her excitement like her sister does yet when she says she loves Pinkie, she smiles and when Rainbow Dash screamed "He's a Rock!!!" Ugh, this episode is a HUGE wasted opportunity. Introducing a new character, a family member of one of the mane cast... I know, let's just have one joke repeated a hundred times, and that's the whole episode! What about the ending? Um... screw it, just bullshit something.

Hmm.  I usually agree with your reviews, but not this time, bub.

 

This is, without a doubt, bar none, hooves down, absolutely, positively, one of the best episodes of the entire series.  There isn't one single thing to even quibble at, and I love to quibble.  Even when it comes to a fantastic episode, I will review it and analyze it to death.  But this is so good, I don't even need to say anything.  Season 4 has had a lot of ups and downs.  Some of the best episodes, and some of the worst.  Maud Pie restores my faith and prooves that FIM has still got it.  Best Picture: Maud Pie.  Best Actress: Maud Pie.  Best Supporting Actress: Pinkie Pie.

Some people see it as a joke; I just see it as a personality quirk. I've known people very similar to in personality to Maud, and I thought the episode worked brilliantly.

 

Granted I can see why this wouldn't work for some, but again I saw it less as a joke and more as a learning experience. One of the best episode of season 4, IMO.

Her personality, if you can call it that, isn't the joke. "Rocks" is the joke. Repeated more times and with less humor than the contemptible "Who" jokes from Owl's Well. And that's the whole episode.

To me it's representative of a deeper connection with something that you love and are passionate about, all the while having characteristics that a group may find foreign to their usual pony encounters. To me, it's a valuable life lesson.

 

To each their own though. Agree to disagree, I suppose. ^^
