KarentheUnicorn 218 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 (edited) Erm, yeah... Big Brothers I mean, named after the males. I never collected the toys because I was like ten years old and was too afraid to ask my parents to buy me any, those things are difficult to track down anymore. I hope I'm not derailing the thread here. Big brothers are not super hard to find, just not what I would call common ponies, prices are not too bad on them, depending on who you are looking for, usually they cost more (obviously) if they have they're accessories (hat and bandana). Also in the UK Big Brothers were not called Big Brothers, they were Adventure Boy Ponies. There is also a set of male ponies called Mountain Boys (not big brothers), they were not sold inside the USA. I didn't find out about them until I got online back in 1997ish. Mountain Boys are generally more expensive than the Big Brothers; usually anything not sold in the USA is more expensive. Another little tidbit of info about the Big Brothers, not only was the set a different name in the UK some of the ponies actually had different names. 4-Speed was actually called Trucker in the UK.. Steamer was Tracks, Salty was Tug, Slugger was First Base. This would sort of be like finding out Fluttershy is actually named Butterfly in another country (LOL!) I always wonder what made them name the ponies a different name in the UK...this was actually hasbro naming they're ponies different names! Also, there is a mail order male who has two different names inside the USA. One pamphlet calls him Coat n' Tails, another he is Tux n' Tails. Eloquence 2,076 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 I've seen a bit of g2 and g3. I found both to be severely lacking in the depth g4 has, surprisingly lacking in fantasy elements given that they're shows about talking horses, and not nearly as adorable when it comes to character design. I know they didn't have the same tools animators have today, but prior to g4 I just thought the ponies looked kind of ugly, both on screen and as toys. What makes them so endearing to me now is owed in near entirety to that classic Lauren Faust style they're now drawn in. Of course, that's just my two bits. If other people like the older gens, I think that's totally cool. You go older-gen bronies :3 I agree that g4 looks a lot better, although I kinda like the look of the older gens (except newborn cuties, they look more like Baby from Dinosaurs than ponies). They're more ponylike, which is part of their charm for me. The only thing that bothered me was that they looked exacty the same, except for their cutie marks, some color differences, and some slight hair differences. 2 “I am quite sure now that often, very often, in matters concerning religion and politics a man’s reasoning powers are not above the monkey’s.” — Mark Twain

That is definitely the biggest issue, the lack of distinctiveness not just in design but in personality. I remember watching a video on youtube of a g3 episode with commentary from a few bronies over it, and they pointed out that in one scene the animators accidentally drew one pony into the scene and then swapped her out for another without even realizing it. Even if that particular pony wasn't talking, imagine how glaring it would be if in a g4 episode Rarity was suddenly Pinkie Pie. Yet I wouldn't have even noticed it had it not been pointed out to me because that's how similar they all look and act. 1 My Equestrian Empire Characters Fluttershy - Eloquence - Chamomile - Ginseng - Lovestruck Ask Me Questions! I mean when the creators of the show can't tell the difference, and more than likely don't care, that's a sign to jump ship if you still value your creative integrity. Duster Dawnhorse 248 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 G1 is my fave gen next to G4. I'm a collector of all generations of ponies but I focus on G1 and G4. Not a fan of the animations, more into the toys and merch. My G1 collection is depressingly small and needs more recruits but potential additions to my bug cutie mark toy army are pricey (anyone seen Greek Ladybird recently? Ouch.) hawkflame 3,310 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 I wouldn't call G1 good, but I do have to credit the Rescue at Midnight Castle for having some decent conflict and it being surprisingly dark. Tirek was pretty cool, and I'm pretty sure he's the only villain who ever threatened to *decapitate Spike*. The rest of G1 is pretty much par for the course for 80s kids cartoons. Mlp Tales and g3, on the other hand, are well below average. Sig by Thunderstorm Check out my Rarity fansite!

DryGuy84 (Inactive) 927 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 I think G1 is actually decent, but it wasn't/isn't my type of show. I hate G2 with a passion, think G3 is lackluster, and think G3.5 barely qualifies as a cartoon. It was never about "girliness" for me it was about taking the audience seriously, G1 and G4 do that, in all fairness, but the latter got me hooked with its wit, tact, and characterization in its stories. But hey, if you like any of the past generations, go nuts! I don't care, they just aren't for me. "Oh look, there's our friend Rarity GOING DOWN IN FLAMES!!! FoxyCryptid 4,330 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 (edited) I'm tempted to dredge up the original because it seems to be so damn 80s and I honestly love 80s/90s cartoons no matter cheesy they are because I grew up on them(yes, I had a lot of hand-me-downs and second hand tapes). C.C. 66 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 (edited) So I wanted to know what your thoughts where on on the younger MLP Generations. Did you like one more than the other? Which did you like least? Who was your favorite pony in other gens? What did you like best about one gen and what did you think was just out there? You don't have to answer all of those questions, but you get the point.I think that the worst gen was generation My Little Pony Tales. It was badly animated, well, at least I thought it was, and I disliked the way the ponies lived in a human-like world, with buses and school houses and slingshots and spitballs. I think it would be better if it was away from all the bustle of the city.I also dislike the way the ponies were drawn in all of the gens except for Gen 4. They looked more like horses than ponies and I don't like to go for the realistic-but-a-little-comical look. Also, Spike in all of the other gens that had him annoyed me alot. In G1 his voice was so squeaky I thought my ears would bleed. Also, best gen will always be Generation 4. What do you think? Scootalove 10,689 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 My Little Pony Tales was probably the worst one out of the bunch. As for the best generation, G4 has this one. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
Odyssey 5,716 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 I happen to like G1. Its villains are pretty dark for a show for children, probably more so then G4's villains. I've seen some episodes of G1 as a kid, so I suppose that's why I don't mind it. G4 is better overall, though. G2 and G3 are terrible, however, especially the former. C.C. 66 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 Do we even need to tell you which generation was the worst? Yeah, Scoots was pretty bad back then. DoubleRainbow_Dash 317 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 I just pretend that the abomination known as G3 never happened. G2 was bad as well but the first one wasn't too bad. However I think it's obvious that G4 is the best generation.

Ianpiersonjdavis 513 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 Generation 1 is definitely my second favorite because its fantasy elements and creatures are closer to FiM, with that said; the human characters were really boring and felt pretty unnecessary. I've watched all of Generation 2 a few months ago and I have to say I don't think it was that bad-despite being less fantastical and set in a more rural setting it did teach a lot of good lessons. Generation 3 I only made it through five minutes of a clip on Youtube before I had to stop, so the only knowledge I really have about it is from reviews-take from that what you will. Generation 4 is still my favorite, but I can definitely see how it was influenced by G1 as well as its character's personalities were implemented (specifically, Firefly). Fluttershutter 2,485 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 Where do you guys watch the other generations? I've seen the first episode of Gen 1 on youtube, it was not bad and similar to the first episodes of FIM.
C.C. 66 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 If you haven't, I think you should see a youtube video called 'Lets Go Meet The Bronies.'. Its funny and educational for the brony or pegasister. hawkflame 3,310 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 The least bad was G1. Sort of a run of the mill kids show, though the TV specials could get pretty dark. Then it just goes downhill from there, until G4. Sig by Thunderstorm Check out my Rarity fansite!
_Kurtis 636 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 I think it's safe to say G4 is the best. Other than G4, the only other generation I actually watch is G1, it's pretty entertaining. The worst would have to be G3.5, with those nightmare-ish baby ponies... *shivers*
