Bob's Burgers: "Equestranauts"

I just watched it. It didn't really seem like they were making fun of Bronies. Asides from Grown men liking Ponies that is.

The convention seemed a lot more like a furrycon. Fur/animal suits, raving, ect.

Also, they were clearly making fun of the older generations on MLP when Tina was watching her pony show.

It was kind of a boring episode. I usually enjoy Bob's Burgers but this episode was just kind of meh.

I enjoyed the episode. I liked how the mocking wasn't very bad, and the final part of the episode kind of was nice, since it reinforced the magic of friendship haha, although it seemed to base itself on G1 a little.

They make a lot of reference to a "reboot", and a theory that pre-reboot and post-reboot are in the same "multiverse", sounds very much like our theory that G1 and G4 are closely related. It shows that the Bob's Burgers writers' knowledge of the show and the fandom must be more than they're willing to let on.

Though I wasn't 100% good with the episode, I'd love to see some of these things become memes.

They could have done better in some ways but overall it wasn't too bad, there are definetely some hilarious moments like that one scene where that "equsticle" rode the other one like a pony and even had a writing crop. Once I saw that I thought they were going to get into clopping and died laughing when I imagined all the ways that could go and for a second there it seemed like that guy was going to hit on Bob. They kind of did reference clopping with that scene where that guy kissed the pony toy as well as referencing how some bronies hate humans and want to go to Equestria. It wasn't as mean spirited as it could have been especially with the ending basically saying that while the "equesticles" might be a little strange that most of them with the exception of a few crazies are actually harmless.

This was the only episode of the show I've ever watched. I chuckled a few times and enjoyed the parody of the brony fandom as well as general geek fandom. It didn't feel hateful, just a fun little poke at what seems so bizarre.

I don't really watch this show, but I'm going to assume that they are going to make bronies all look like complete weirdos. I guess we'll find out.

Haha we are complete wierdos silly.

This wasn't nearly as bad as I even thought it was going to be. It followed basically what most Bob's episodes follow as far as how things play out, and while I figured that's how it was going to go, I was kind of expecting a bit more "bashing". Instead there really wasn't that much, and what there was, was just light ribbing basically.

I give them props for handling it in the way they did, and mostly staying focused on the actual story of the episode rather then the social stigma towards the fandom. Removing the setting, Tina's Chariot figure could have easily just been stolen by a crazed toy collector that Bob needed to buddy up with to get back. The setting didn't play a huge role.

Wait they still make bob's burgers? I gotta start watching it again! That episode looks amaze-balls. Some my find it offensive, but I bet it will be super hilarious if you learn to appreciate!

I just watched the episode. It wan't that bad actually. They did take a jab at the fandom a couple of times (like the part where the guy kissed the horse) but it wasn't really that cringe worthy and some of the jokes were actually pretty funny. Like the joke on fanfiction, headcannons, and analyzing. Also Equesticles that's a new one, I could see South Park calling them that but whatever.

Oh, I loved this episode, and I've never seen the show before. I was wondering if I should, but now I intend to catch up!

Also, one reviewer of the episode hopes to get bombarded with the angry tears of butthurt bronies who can't take a joke so he can revel in every moment of it. Let's all join forces and express our understanding attitude and enjoyment of the episode instead!

@@, (and everyone else as well)

Heads-up that your two threads about Equestranauts have been consolidated into one. I'm also going to move this thread to Sugarcube Corner, now that it's out. Thanks for understanding ;)

I enjoy Bob's Burgers regularly so this was a nice special treat. Saddest thing is i missed this sunday's episode and had to catch it on on-demand after i heard it was brony oriented. If i could have been surprised by it (as i should have) that would have been 20% mo betta.

It was pretty decent. It had plenty of great small moments, scenes, and references and yet avoided a lot of direct comparisons. I would have enjoyed it if it was a little more direct in its parody but i appreciate that it made some funny changes too. Tina and family showing up at the door was pretty priceless. I remember the first night out local bronycon and a few girls with their parents showed up the first night and didn't come back the following days which is kind of sad. When its almost all 20+ guys its not even really acurately representing the diversity within the fanbase (although i'm very glad we don't fursuit much either).

Never watched Bob's burgers.  its not on here in the UK. it looks like you guys think it was good.

Yeah, it was. And it wasn't blindly mocking bronies, either; apart from that one villain whose creepiness goes beyond having a horse fetish, the "Equesticles" (hehe) are very nice and harmless overall, and the characters' reactions range from confused to fascinated, which is not only a breath of fresh air, but lends itself to some pretty great lines. ("We've discovered a new kind of man!")

I won't lie, there is a scene that ventures into some sexual territory, but it also points out that this is hardly exclusive to fans like bronies, so it's all good.

My reaction is the same as whenever any show tries to do an episode like this:

This is gonna hurt.

Time and time again it's been proven that an accurate depiction of a subculture does not make good TV, so it quickly becomes less of "Learn about these interesting group of people!" to more "Point and laugh as these freaks and weirdos!"  Best case scenario, the "equestrianauts" come off as social awkward individuals that fit rather cleanly into the geek/nerd stereotype. Worst case scenario however, they're obsessive manchildren who should be rounded up and put on a sexual offenders list. I'm not gonna get my hopes up regardless of the quality of the show.

Heh. Retrospect.

Fantastic satirical episode poking fun of the whole adult/male fandom of the Bronies. In the episode, Tina goes to her first convention only to discover it is nothing but adult men with pony-themed names "Pony Danza :D". When a brony cons her out of her very rare pony toy, Bob (her father) must learn all of the Equestranaut history to infilitrate the brony fandom!

Who else saw this episode and appreciated the satire ^_^

Nope.

Never in a million years.

Not even if my eyes were pried open. I'd probably chew my tounge off then.
