Twilight's royal title has been explored realistically

I know folks have been question how Twilight's royal title has been explored this season, with stuff like this:

Of course, this criticism is often made forgetting the technological state of Equestria.  While not all of us know the British Royal Family, we can find out in a few minutes who every living member is.  Take a look at Photo Finish's camera:

She would no doubt have the latest model, and that's like a camera from the 1920s.  It takes hours to develop film from such a camera.  Today, you can take a picture and make a meme of it before the day ends.  It's going to take a while before everypony knows what Princess Twilight Sparkle looks like.

Add on top of that Ponyville Confidential, which makes it quite clear that the only news outlet Equestria has makes the New York Times look credible.  News doesn't get around as well as gossip does.  You know, it actually makes sense that Flash and Twilight would keep any romance between them secret, since the papers would be all over them.

I'd have to say that Twilight Time and Trade Ya! explore Twilight's royal title in a believable way for the world she lives in.  Since she was officially running the Trader's Exchange, it would make sense that everypony would look into who she is.  This would fall more into the gossip that spreads faster than actual news.

Well, that's true. But, don't you would think that they would react to her having both wings and a horn? It doesn't seem to be very common.

I'm glad to see that it's being explored, though the complaining of some people not exploring Twilight's royal title is getting old. Some complain that Twilight is not the same and now others want her royal title to be explored more, make up your mind.

Cadence wasn't really treated well in three's a crowd. The princesses definitely need to be reminded that they're princesses

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it save equistria with its five candy coloured friends and shoot rainbows at bad guys using their necklaces and tiara unless you're celestia

OP has good points.

About gossip being most commonly used form of communication, that I wouldn't really be surprised about if that were the case. Looking at Manehattan as an example, no one recognized or even addressed Twilight's princess status in the big city at all. To add to the gossip aspect, and what you mentioned about the technological status of Equestria, modes of communications are not advance and acknowledgement of Twilight's princess status is really observed in only certain cities/towns/districts. (the creation of the internet has allowed information to spread easily like wildfire today).
Canterlot residents would obviously be aware of Twilight's status and Rainbow Falls acknowledges it because its part of the cultural tradition there for a princess to be present to act as royal judge on trades deemed unfair by the separate parties. In Manehattan .... Get your cab own sister.   It just means information does not spread very fast amongst the cities of Equestria.

Tommy Oliver made a great video addressing this issue and asking the question – “what was the point of having Twilight Sparkle become a princess ? (other than toy bait)” (I can't for the life of me, find the video again which he properly addresses the issue of Twilight's ascension and why it seemed completely pointless or not really being acknowledge)
He sort of mentions it in this video (it's not the one I want to use, but brings up the issue again: 0:00 - ~5:05 )

Anyways, I think there will be more to say by the end of season,

(given the last two episode titles and their description)

It's been a slow pace, but there's at least some acknowledgement that things will change.

This is a decent point.  I wouldn't expect everypony to bring it up, but I do think it makes sense to expect some raised eyebrows.

I don't think that this has been done very realistically for reasons of trying to please or at the very least keep a portion of Friendship is Magic's audience as there are still those that are bitter about Twilights ascension/coronation (like my younger brother who despised her to begin with and quit the show as soon as he found out.)

I feel sorry for the writers because it appears as if theyare trying to tread lightly and ease into this issue with fans that still see this as controversial, since they can't seem to decide if her new role would be better off downplayed or frequently addressed leading to these inconsistencies of how famous Twilight is exactly.

Since there has so far only been shown to be a total of four Alicorns in Equestria, all of whom are princesses-this seems like it would be a pretty reasonable assumption to make

Uh, I don't think the camera proves anything.

Remember the paparazzi ponies?

Tracy_Flash_id.png

They have far more modern style cameras.

But yeah, they still don't seem to have internet in Equestria...

Although they do have phones... I think I've seen one.

And video games.

And whatever that stuff was that Twilight was using to test the Pinkie Sense.

But personally I'm totally cool with Twilight not always getting a lot of attention or having a lot of power over the citizens of Equestria. At least for now. The guy that turned her down for a cab, yeah he was rude, but someone pointed out that the royals of our day and age are not always given special treatment by everyday citizens. Twilight wasn't really commanding any sort of royal presence, she doesn't really have a way to enforce her will (not that she'd want to), and that guy possibly had somewhere to be quickly as well, had been standing in line for who knows how long...

Meh, I don't have a full argument for it.

I agree that her princess status needs to be addressed, but I want there to be balance. I don't want everyone just falling all over themselves to please her, but I do want her acknowledged. And it would be nice if the main six were acknowledged as heroes once in a while as well.

I do see evidence of them doing this in other things, so it's a possibility I'm open too.  I don't like it.  They complained about Twilight becoming a princess and, when McCarthy explained herself, they took her quote out of context ("Every girl wants to be a princess") and tried to use it to discredit her.  I believe P!nk sums up my feelings on this mater quite nicely.

They are NEVER going to be happy with how McCarthy runs this show.  The whole writing staff should act like they don't exist.

Oops, forgot about that one.

We haven't actually seen any phones in the show, but many fans speculate that they exist.  Somepony to Watch Over Me provides a lot of circumstantial evidence of that fact.

Twilight seems to be more of a fallback princess, working in the background (background pony har har) or stepping in when nobody else is up to a task. Even her role in this episode was largely ceremonial. As she said, the attending princess had never had to do anything before (and it really sounds like a responsibility that could be delegated to some sort of magistrate). She's still receiving instructional material from Celestia, and she doesn't have a throne of her own.

Twilight has made a conscious effort to avoid the spotlight and I new wouldn't be surprised if Celestia is trying to keep her out of it as well. Ponies need to know she's a princess, sure, and her coronation was public, but too much exposure and they'll be beating down her door (Twilight Time?). Baby steps to get her accustomed to a role of authority and requiring heavy use of "people skills," things that naturally clash with her personality. Look how much trouble it was just for her to interact in a relaxed manner with the others once she arrived in Ponyville. Twilight never asked for this. Laying low and keeping her responsibilities small is a good idea for now. Presiding over this event was a good opportunity to begin easing into the public eye.

Sorry if that seems rather disjointed and like I'm rambling. Typing this from my phone at work as I can and it makes things rather difficult in a number of ways. ^^;

No, it hasn't with the exception of a few episode like Twilight Time, the season premier and Trade Ya. It is being downplayed by the writers because there are people that are still uneasy about it me being one of them but while I thought the change was way too soon and handled poorly I don't think pretending it dosen't exist except for a few select episodes is the answer either. We still don't know much more than we did in the season 3 finale and that bugs the hell out of me, we should have had at least a little more information by now.

It could be Equestria's all inclusive culture being a double edged sword. In Flight to the Finish, Sweetie Bell & Applebloom didn't really care that Scoots was disabled flyer of sorts, and no pony seemed to notice the wheel chair bound Stellar Eclipse in Trade Ya. Perhaps the same applies with Alicorns. You have wings and a horn. You're still getting equal treatment as everypony else. The disabled and divine will be treated the same as all other citizens.

The writer in Manehatten explained his thoughts in an interview as to why no pony cared she was a princess. It boils down to ponies their not caring who you are in classic NYC style and her not doing anything. What have you done for me lately. He also thought it would be in poor taste to pull rank for her friends.

In Trade Ya she was acting as a princess,!and so was treated as such, even though she fought it. Would I like more princess stuff? Of course. Do I agree with the writers? No, but I do think they have a reason for taking it slow and it's not the fans, or them not believing in her status. They really think it's something to be used sparingly.
