This episode makes me hate Rarity, I'm sorry, it just does, I mean like, the "Nom, nom, nom?" Not even cute! She probably killed ponies by blinding them! (They ran into stuff and still fell on them and the doctors and nurses couldn't get to them because of the blindingness..) My ending: Rarity needs to die. (I'm not saying that nobody should like Rarity, I'm just saying she's too much of a drama queen, and Spike should've set her on fire.)

Isn't it a little bit pathetic to wish a character dead and hate it because of such petty reasons?

Actually, its because I'm a tomboy, so, I don't care about fashion or something stupid like that, I mean, at the end of the episode I was like, "What... the fluffy kittens did I just watch!?" I mean, why didn't she even know there would be puppets? And this all happened because a stallion told her it won't do, seriously?

So you hate her and want her to suffer the most painful death imaginable because you cannot relate to her? Rarity haters in a nutshell. I CUNNOT RELATE! I HATE THINGS I DUN UNDERSTAND!

And if you have so much problems with her freakout at the beginning, do you also hate Twi because of Lesson Zero? Do you hate Rainbow because of her freakout in Sonic Rainboom? Do you hate Pinkie because of Party of one? Do you hate Flutters because she freaks out because she sees her own shadow?

No! You hate Rarity cuz she is like, so guuurly. For realz!

I cannot relate to Rainbow Dash, not in the least. Do i hate her because of it and want her to be burned alive?

No! Because that would make me a horrible person, and im able to see her good side even though im not interested in her "I always have to win" mentality. I don't run around and tell people that the character they like should burn a slow and painful death... CUZ I CAN'T RELATE... CUZ IM A TOMBOY! I HATE FASHUNZ! LOL!

This episode makes me hate Rarity

I'm sorry, but you really can't put her at fault here. She was possessed for the majority of the episode, meaning that she had little to no control over her actions. It isn't fair to her to judge her for something she had little control over. She had amnesia after the spell was broken, remember? The spell possessed her.

And what happened before that, Rarity is very emotionally sensitive. She puts a lot of effort into her craft, and the man was much too harsh about something that she put a lot of effort into as well as something she had her heart set on making. She wanted to leaver her mark on the fair, did she not?

That man was brutal with his criticisms. Whatever constructive criticisms he gave her was negated by how harsh, rude, and dick-ish he was about it. If you can honestly deny that he wasn't mean about her booth, I'd like to hear it. Furthermore, he hired a fashion designer to perform carpentry work, so I have no clue what he was thinking there.

I mean like, the "Nom, nom, nom?" Not even cute!

She was crying her eyes out and gorging herself with ice cream, I doubt there was much cuteness appeal intended.

She probably killed ponies by blinding them!

I'm pretty sure that she would've gotten sent away had she killed anyone. No one died, and you shouldn't claim people died without any proof of such a tragedy. Until you can prove that ponies died, please refrain from accusing Rarity of murder.

Rarity needs to die.

Resorting to that kind of brutality as well as exercising such closed-minded hatred is no better than what anti-bronies do to us on a regular basis. Wishing death upon a character that so many people care about is not only hurtful and rude, but just plain unnecessary and goes against the meaning of the show itself. I think the other characters would be extremely disappointed if they saw what I just quoted.

Actually, its because I'm a tomboy, so, I don't care about fashion or something stupid like that

I know that @hawkflame, one of the biggest Rarity fans on this site, doesn't relate to her at all, or so he says. Just because you don't relate to a pony doesn't mean that you should hate them and wish death upon them. I don't relate to Rainbow Dash at all, and even if she's at the back of my mane 6, I'm still quite fond of her. I'm sorry, but I fail to see why "I don't relate to them" is an adequate reason to hate and wish death upon someone/pony.

I mean, why didn't she even know there would be puppets?

She was making a puppeteer booth. She was well aware there'd be puppets, given the nature of the order she was filling.

The problem lies within the fact the puppeteer hired a fashion designer to perform carpentry work. I don't really understand why he'd think that'd be a great idea, but she put her best effort into it and he just tore her apart. If he wanted such specifications that he obviously didn't make clear to begin with, he should've hired a carpenter and not a fashionista.

this all happened because a stallion told her it won't do, seriously?

Not because a stallion told her it wouldn't do, per se, but more or less because of how brutally harsh and mean spirited he was about it. Again, he should've hired a carpenter or at least made his order more clear. Given the nature of her career, she'd have had a much easier time had he let her know what he wanted.

However, the thing that made her react as over the top as she did was a mixture of her general emotional sensitivity as well as how brutal and destructive he was about it. He was verbally abusing her for failing to live up to his standards, and that's where the problem lies.

Newsflash:  Most rarity fans are not into fashion.

As Ghostface mentioned above, I think relatability, as far as things like a character's hobbies, interests, and personality go, is overrated.  A character is like me in some way or likes the same things I do.  Does that inherently make them a better or more interesting character?  No.  Similarly, is a character that doesn't have the same interests as me automatically a bad or unlikable character? No.

Relatability is, to me, most important when it comes to emotional experiences.  Can I relate to Rarity's interest in fashion?  Not at all.  But can I relate to, say, what it feels like when you put your heart and soul into creating something that you are really proud of, only to have someone verbally tear it apart and reject it?  Yeah, I can (I still remember one such moment in a creative writing class I took a while back), and I suspect that anyone who has ever created or worked on anything with a lot of love can relate to that.

This was a fun episode to watch. Don't get why the ponies didn't just close their eyes instead of keep looking at the dirt after Rarity made it into gold was it.

I'm the complete opposite of Rarity.  I dress like crap and people even offer me money and shelter addresses because they think I look homeless.  I'm am the most unfeminine girl ever, and Rarity is my tied favorite pony.  Not being able to relate is no reason to wish death or hate something.

Just why would he take that book? Did the royal sisters hide it thinking that they didn't want it to fall into the hands of Sombra or Discord?

Did Discord put it there before Spike went just so that a lesson could be learned? Did Celestia tell him to, I mean he is reformed?

Remember how chrysalis could make lots of things come to be? She had green magic, didn't she? And she was very corrupted, as corrupted as rarity would have become. Did chrisi use that spell? No one ever tells her,"I don't like what your doin'."So maybe she cast the spell and became corrupted enough to be a changeling queen.

What did celestia and Luna have that evil book in their library for? I really want an answer, because I just have no clue.

This episode stood out as one of my favorites of the season. Maybe the series even. I agree with mlpfiwcat though, I am curious as to why that book was in the castle to begin with. Unless we simply assume Celestia and Luna knew of it's power and kept it in the castle, to prevent anyone from getting it.

I really loved this episode, even though I do not feel emotionally attached to Rarity. But I love to see contrasts and drastic character developments, so hey, that was great. I especially loved the final outburst, to me more precise, the bells during it. As Raritys surroundings turned into crystals, the bells chimed deeply and Spike finally realized what he had to do. Awesome moment.

I loved this episode. While it does make me think of the movie Limitless, where the lead takes a drug and unlocks their full potential, I think this episode did it better in a shorter time frame. Pinkie's moment was...hilarious, Fluttershy was almost as hilarious, Rarity was flat out creepy, and Spike was extremely likable, unlike the unholy horror that was Spike At Your Service...but that's a rant for another day! I know the analyst Silver Quill said it better, (even if you're not a fan of analysts, he's a real hoot!) but it really needs to be re-iterated: this is the first time Spike caused, then solved, a problem. He's usually the butt of all jokes in the series, especially since the aforementioned travesty, and I'm glad they brought him out into the spotlight and fixed many of the issues he had.

Love this ep. Rarity is absolutely on fire and fabulous with everything she does, eating all the ice cream was funny  My favourite bit is actually when she gives the puppeteer his new theatre and it's just the way he says "puppets" (even though this vid cuts it a bit short)

Glad to see this topic finally open.

It's great to be back to the great old mlp forums to talk about stuff again.

I'm pretty stoked to see the first of the two Spike episodes! He's my favorite character after all.

Totally agree with you there, love Spike, and rarity (and no not the shipping kind of love) and huza for a good spike episode

This episode was my latest review to date. I have to say, I thought it was far and away Spike's best episode so far! I thought it was one of those simple episodes that had a really strong sense of what it wanted to be. Although, yeah, it might have gone on autopilot a little too much for me to say it's a great episode.
