gaming What are your thoughts on Elder Scrolls Online?

Recommended Posts

Good day or night to you sir or madam, as i was lounging around my *ahem* abode, i was wondering what the publics thoughts were on this new fangled game of the video variety. I myself have been having fun with it though it is filled with problems and what the young ones call "trolls". leave your thoughts and musings here so that i may read them and have a jolly time.

This game is going to fail. Probably turning into f2p at some point in the future.

  • They make a game that NO ONE was asking for and they don't seem to be doing a good job at it.
  • They fail to listen to feedback as we saw with the whole economy getting destroyed. They were warned.
  • I heard there's a bucketloads of gold sellers going around too.
  • Then the way they charge you for buying the game, subscriptions AND microtransactions.

Those are only a few of the problems I can think of atm. All they had to do was make a regular RPG experience with online co-op for like 6 people but no, they had to make a damn MMO. I'm definitely not interested in this game at all and won't be playing it.

They made a few real mistakes (example: it does NOT save your progress often enough -- I hit one bug and was rolled back about 45 minutes)(I have taken to logging to character select after every quest completion or other achievement in game).  BUT it does have the feel of the elder scrolls.

It is also the first game in a while where I died a couple of scores of times in the early levels.  Coming from someone who made it to the cap in lotro without a single death, this says something(yes my first death there was in the ettinmoors).  I also re-rolled (making my original character a craft mule -- you need mules) because I saw that I could have done things significantly better with my build.

It also can have an asheron's call feel in that some monsters are much easier for some classes/skillsets than others.  Hence the monster you have a lot of trouble with could be a monster someone else has a relatively easier time with and vice versa.  This can be a problem with a few quests -- IE my original character failed miserably at a level 8 quest at level 10 to get accepted into the fighter's guild(you can do all three(soon to be five) major guilds).

All in all, I have found it enjoyable thusfar.

i think it is way overpriced. tough it looks awesome and i might get it when it eventually gets priced a bit lower... if they ever do that.

the price is steep, but im seeing a drop or no monthly fees in the future. or really cheap monthly fees.

My sentiments exactly, like anything bethesda is invovled with it should be focused on a singualar person or group. thats the beauty of their games, they feel like a story rather than a whole bunch of stories mixed together.

The game itself is far different from most mmos. it feels like the elder scrolls has been transplanted to online. that's good and bad at the some time, seeing as there are always bugs and problems. ive done a few quests where the elite i was fighting would do nothing but heal repeatedly so there was no way to kill them. instant heals i might add so i couldnt bash them to victory. i can see a future for it if and only if they tailor it to elder scrolls fans not mmo fans.

I found it painfully mediocre. The gameplay in first person still feels very floaty. On launch it had duplication bugs, economy killing bugs, and game crashing bugs. But the "grey" feeling you got while playing was the worst. Even the "massive deadric invasions" instances had maybe 12 or so dremora running around, and the guards had not even changed dialog for the instance, still asking me how nice a day it was. The game just felt like a massive empty space on PvE,with no real sense of challenge out side early bosses.

You speak truth, the game itself needs to be more organic. it feels like most mmo settings. big and filled with enemies for you to slaughter. i can see it has potential it just needs revamping is many areas and more catering to the fans.

Overpriced, I have a beta and I can certify that it isn't good. The mechanics such as armour are nothing like the regular Elder Scrolls and the whole game in general is beaten by a potato in terms of backstory. Not worth the hundreds you have to pay!

It has potential. They just need to make the world more living. It feels like wow, were there are only people there for the sake of you killing or giving you quests. It really does miss the "real living world" feeling that the single player elder scrolls are known for.

It was rushed, without doubt.

The game is glichy. PvE is horrible.no feeling of satisfaction when finishing quests and killing enemies.

It is a money trap, it is not worth it no matter how much you love the elder scrolls.

The only positive thing I can say is that the sound is nice.

the beta was alright, took ages before you could actually go adventuring though, and it didnt really seem like an elder scrolls game. but i would buy it if there wasnt the monthly fee.

The actual game is nothing like the beta. but you are correct the only good stories are the main and the guild ones. and those are "good" on the armor subject it couldnt work like the single player games. mmos have to have balance, in most elder scrolls games you can make yourself almost unkillable due to how the armor works. and the monthly fee is a bad way to go but anything that has to have constant development has to have income. its just how it works.

well they are working on more guilds (thieves and dark brotherhood) but they wanted to put too much into it. plus the elder scrolls team didnt even work on it they worked in "conjunction" with the zenimax team. which means they gave them the label and one guy to help.

all mmo's are bug infested unplayable messes. especially bethesda/zenimax games, just look at fallout. new vegas was unplayable for the first few weeks due to crashing and save loss. and money is only worth as much as the person who holds it sees fit.

they have changed much since the beta. though the core mechanics need work and the hit boxes swing times and random misses need fixing more than anything. plus many quests are bugged right now.

MMO and Elder Scrolls? It sounds like a catastrophe.

it wouldnt be as bad if it was bethesda and not a team from zenimax that talked to the elder scrolls team through email and meetings.

I haven't played it but the last thing these games needed was an online to bog down the already buggy system in these games. Maybe they fixed that, wouldn't know. I don't see an online version being any sort of good though.

Then again, I was never one for MMOs in the first place so I won't and shouldn't have much of a say in it.

i can understand not liking or not playing mmo type games. i got into them because i came into gaming in a time where "online" wasnt a thing for consoles. put pcs were. i got into WoW and still go back to see if it rekindles anything i felt when playing originally.

It's not just MMOs for me. It's multiplayer in general. I play single player games. I'll play multiplayer games by myself if given the option (such as in Left 4 Dead).

But that's neither here nor there. In Elder Scrolls' case they have a lot of shit they need to fix up and it really doesn't work well enough for an online system to make it any better and would probably make it even worse.

Well I probably won't be getting it mostly because I hate the new gen consoles its on. It looks like a good game but it's just a spinoff and it won't effect the elder scrolls six when and if they make it. If I do end up getting it on pc I'll probably only play it to kill people in the Aldmeri dominion( I really hate the thalmor even more than I hate the stormcloaks and I despise the stormcloaks ) but other than that I have no reason to get it I'm perfectly happy playing morrowind, oblivion, and skyrim.

I've never been a fan of online games mainly because I find it hard to cooperate with other people. Like M'aiq the liar says "Some like taking friends on adventures. M'aiq thinks being alone is better. Less arguing about splitting treasure." Plus the price, it is steep!, even if I did have any interest in it I probably wouldn't be able to afford it. I'm just going to stick with Oblivion and Skyrim for now.  ;)

Playing it right now and I'm cool with it. The expenses don't really bother me. I just enjoy the game, though they did make the first dungeon ridiculously hard for no reason.

[biased opinions]

Elder Scrolls=Good Series.

MMOs=Bad

Elder Scrolls + MMOs = An abomination.

I don't even know what Bethesda was trying to do.

I'm really interested in ESO, but it's fairly overpriced so I'm obviously not going to get it right away.

With people being able to join multiple guilds -- I am surprised there is not an MLP guild.  I mean there really should be.  We aren't that rare.
