Is the RD-Rarity fans' rivalry a very serious one?

I was never around to see any rivalry between RD fans and Rarity fans(I'm probably lucky that I never saw the two) so I don't know any details. Then again I'm also one of those very rare cases where both RD and Rarity are my favorites. I do know that Chaotic Discord made a thread about the rivalry though(I'd look for it, but I'm too lazy though)

 

I'm honestly more surprised that there isn't some sort of rivalry between AJ and RD fans(since, from what I've seen a lot of AJ fans seem to absolutely loathe RD for some strange reason)

On time Pre-S4,Rainbow Dash fans were considered the main Rarity haters(That was true at the time :3 )

Rainbow Dash fans were normally considered the most "Other Mane 6" haters,and even with more bas with Rarity(and Applejack too,but that's another story)

 

Nowadays,that fight has been mitigated a lot,because all the love that Rarity has,and is still receiving ^^

 

But,answering your question,on its time,it was very serious

The problem with the two fanbases is that a large portion of Rarity haters are/were RD fans. Large enough to take significant notice of.

 

As someone who butts heads with Rarity haters regularly, I must say, 8 out of 10 of them identify Rainbow Dash as their best pony. The numbers were staggering and caused me to realize that the trend was vicious.

 

Of course, I stumbled on CD's topic about this and read that this had been happening for a long time now. I still chalk it up to the fact a lot of Rarity haters are RD fans, and we Rarity fans are very sensitive to the subject of Rarity hate, given how bad it was in the past and how it made us as a fanbase feel alienated and bullied just because of our best pony. We usually relate to our best pony in a few ways, and seeing people say such awful things about not only something you love, but something you're like, then it's hard not to take it as a personal insult. The fact that most of it is/was from RD fans is the main factor in this conundrum, although I myself just take it one at a time.

 

I like Rainbow Dash, and a few of my best friends on here are Rainbow Dash fans. I've even posted in her fan club once or twice, even though it felt like I was hopping over the 38th parallel in doing so

It's not a serious rivalry, but I usually thought that it was caused from the episodes that have based on them and the fans going at it like a pack of wolves to prove which one of them are better.

Again, allow me to re-iterate: it stems from the fact a large portion of Rarity haters are RD fans, and we Rarity fans are generally very sensitive to that.

I never knew this rivalry existed. I suppose it makes sense. I don't understand why there are so many "haters" in the fandom. For example, I have some friends who hate Rainbow Dash, and Twilight. I just don't get it. How could anybody hate any of the mane 6? They're all so awesome. I love them all equally, and could never hate any of them. I can understand disliking one of them, but hate? 

 

Rainbow Dash, and Rarity are both amazing characters. I don't see how anybody could hate either one of them.

We often relate to our best pony in a few ways, and, I must say, the amount of hate Rarity got (and, by extension, we got at times) kind of justifies our sensitivity. 

 

It's like, back in 'Nam, man, there were haters all in the trees...

I had no idea there was such a rivalry. I really can't imagine hating on one of the characters - I might hate their actions or find them annoying at times, but I don't actually hate them. I wasn't that keen on Rarity for the first couple of seasons but then I saw the light, lol. I'm not always fond of Rainbow Dash I'll admit, but I don't hate her and I'd never see a fellow fan of the show as my rival because she was their best pony. Of course if they chose to see me that way,that's their prerogative and I guess I would just walk away ... fabulously, of course.

To be fair, since, I'm not only mentioned in the OP but the topic tags, for some reason (when I'm not the only one to say this) that I thought it was just a coincidence they mostly were RD fans until I saw this topic that was made by an admin of this very site; then I realized "Ohey, it's not just a coincidence. Cool."

 

Also, not going to lie, it has definitely died down since season 4 started Rarity hate is going away, and with it, this rivalry.

 

Of course, I don't really remember saying the majority of that stuff, except in my "Ask me" topic in the forum lounge, which, was joking in response to my friend's question; the hint of a small rivalry has always been there, though.

It also should be said that a lot of Rarity fans seem to not rank Dash very highly either. That admittedly could be biased coming from me, since Dash is one of my least favorite of the mane six.

 

It also doesn't help that there isn't a whole lot of interaction between the two ponies on screen. Usually when they're together, it's usually part of the larger group, not one on one. So we don't see a strongly established friendship between them, unlike for, say, rarity and applejack.
