Is FiM now targeting everyone?

Just keep in mind that it wasn't the epic manly dbz power that saved the day but the froo froo girly sailor rainbowness that kicked Tirek's tail to the tarterous curb.

At the end of the day, Hasbro will still be Hasbro. They will do what ever it takes to bring in those dollar signs.

MLP was never supposed to be a fighting show. That's the reason why that fighting scene, and many others, always felt kind of out place for me.

This last season, instead of trying to make something good by it's own right, some writers just relied on the fandom's attachment on so many occasions.

By the way. Has to be Discord involved in any major episode from now on? Is that huge the lack of content and character quality on their plots, they've to rely on people's attachment to X character so to draw attention back from poor quality plots?

We got a dumbed down Discord, a mediocre villain with no reasons to be that way, not Sombra this time, but much worse, then a forgettable ending with no lessons to learn from, rather than the old good "be true to yourself" which has been already said at the show's very beginning. Plus a meaningless victory over Tirek, including the fight scene, which had no place on MLP. Twilight's new role which was already as meaningless as her princess title. Aside from Twilight's castle, which is probably another excuse from Hasbro to make money on toys.

It did truly felt like this time they were trying to appeal to a wider public, though, being that the reason why I didn't like season 4 that much. While they could have made an original season finale, they took up on the easy way once again. Instead of finding out the reasons why Tirek was such a hateful being, and trying to help him out through friendship... Oh wait, I just forgot there was barely any character development on this villain as well, probably just another disappointing Sombra 2.0 but worse.

How is it possible they're trying to teach lessons about life, with such an assortment of artificial villains? There's always a reason why somebody has turned into a bad human being. Way to help and show friendship, by the way. There's no answer on violence.

Even though there has been some pretty good episodes over this last season, for the most part it felt sort of meaningless in many ways, and generic in some others. There hasn't been the depth I was hoping for, more like a detriment in comparison with previous ones. While the show was supposed, or intended to show that through friendship is somehow possible to achieve a true change into troubled beings, meaning the villians on MLP. Seeing Twilight losing her cool as a princess, and fighting like it was DBZ, was kind of sad, that sort of generic feeling.

Season 4 did appeal onto an older public, while the reason why I originally liked MLP, was because it mainly appealed to my inner child instead. I just hope they come back to their roots, instead of misleading the show's personality by trying to appeal to a wider audience.

Apologies for my english, it isn't my first language.

TBH, after the first few episodes, I had the suspicion that Hasbro was trying to go more towards "all audiences" instead of all-girls show, :D.   And now...............keeps growing and growing, :)

Where I can see what you are saying you also have to remember it is a kids show. Plots are not going to be deep. And it isn't an anime in which they can take up half a season developing a villain. You have to look at the villains in mlp as simple as possible. They are in a nutshell the opposition and nothing more. I've noticed that threw each season the mane 6 learn things that eventually lead to them beating a force by using what they have learned.

Personally, the endearing thing about this show - the thing that led to what makes it so popular with people far outside of the expected demographic - is the quality of it. It's a good show that was written with the intent to entertain all while maintaining the moral standards of a children's show, something that FiM does excellently - more so than any other cartoon before it, I dare say.

I think, though, that they are beginning to write it with both us bronies and the kiddies in mind - although, quite frankly, that doesn't matter much to me,  nor should it matter to anyone in general. Quality matters, yes, but my personal philosophy is that what's first and foremost in terms of importance is finding in enjoyment in it, followed by quality. So, as long as I find enjoyment in the show, it hardly matters who they're gearing it towards :D

Anything more violent that Transformers has ever done?

I'm sorry, but Beast Wars says HI! I mean seriously, Dinobot's death? Besides the fact he got the shit beat out of him, he friggen DIED on TV. This show hasn't even came close to anything along those lines. Hell, even Animated had a death scene, when Prowl died in the final episode.

As for the show itself, it was already appealing to all audiances. This just adds to it, I mean the show was supposed to be watched by anyone, as labled as a "family show".

I'm pretty sure the show has always been targeting everyone. Or at least, ever since season 2.

The show has always had an occasional action scene, and stories that don't insult the audiences intelligence (mostly).

That being said, they weren't allowed to show Twilight punching Tirek in the face, apparently.

I think a lot depends upon what you think a more Brony friendly version would look like. I'm more lienent of it catering to the demographic bacause I'm the father of one and she enjoys it as it is. Heck she's almost a Brony with her level of interest.

If I could change the show I would want them to pay even more attention to canon, backstory, Equestria history, world building and continuity. The writers can be very loose goose with those matters. Those are the big and overriding issues that Bronies should be concerned about I think. Shipping and things like that seem to be more a matter of taste, so they would vary.

I feel like they are trying to hit the more, um, mature audience.

It was violent, but it was at the peak of violence where at least the kids who watch the show wouldn't have to leave the room.

This is just my opinion <3

Prime has been over for nearly two years now really. Although, Predicons Rising had a couple of sever beat downs.

Really...wow shows how out of the loop I am with transformers I just remember watching some of it and just not enjoying it at all. And I grew up with beast wars and it just seemed really tame.

Really? Cause Beast Wars is really one of the best ones since G1, and probably the most violent. Unless you meant Beast Machines, which was pure absolute garbage. MLP is more violent, and better written...ok screw that, MLP is better in every aspect over Beast Machines.

I ment stuff like beast machines in my reference. I wold never think mlp could be more violent than g1 transformers or beast wars. I mean they had the touch they got the power.

I think that what makes MLP "target other audiences" is not the choice in themes, but the quality with which they are presented.

Honestly, I think that the overall quality of the episodes fall considerably when the writers go for the "epic stuff" instead of going for the "slice of life" comedy.

Yes, Twilight's battle with Tirek was cool to watch, I like that Twilight now seems to have her own palace and that her friends seem to have been recognized as important, but rewatching that episode it feels like Meghan is holding that battle in front of my eye so I can't see that we think about all the problems that episode had.

So I don't really feel as though anything has changed. If anything, the show is slowly losing it's focus.

For dumb, self-important fics about mythology, ponies and fascist griffons that can't figure friendship out.

And I'm just getting started.

It would open up so much more possibilities. We have not seen such a violent scene before. Yes, It was violent. They were beating the crap out of each other!

I would say that they don't make it more masculin but less girly if you get my meaning.

I would say that FiM is targeting a "Family Audience" well, even though it's specifically targeting young girls as we all know and can plainly see from most of the merchandise, I think that "everyone" exists somewhere within the realms of Family Audience.

Though it's definitely a change from what it was in the past. G3/.5 Blech.  :eww:

I'm curious, have y'all noticed a slight increase in the number of fans recently? I know I jumped on the wagon late, but MLP just seems more prominent to me now more than ever, though i don't know if it's because I'm looking for it.

Ive actually noticed a pretty big jump in new fans even since i started in April. Maybe people are just finally lowing their guard and giving the show a chance.

Oh wow. I hope so, it seems like society in general have become more tolerant and open minded here lately, dang near like its a fad   all this show's got is good lessons and kindness, maybe it'll make more people happy and make the world a happier place :yay:

Sort of? MLP: FiM is still promoted as a girl's product, but the show's target audience is young girls and their parents, which could technically be for everyone. Since G4 has elements of G1 considering that Lauren Faust watched the show as a kid, that could possibly be another reason why FiM is a gender-neutral show.

Also, just because Twilight's Kingdom had Dragon Ball Z-esque fighting doesn't mean little girls can't enjoy it. I know that when I was younger I enjoyed seeing overpowered heroes beat up each other. :P
