  1. The reason the current con forums work is because they serve as these conventions' official forums - they are monitored and promoted by con staff, and attendees from outside MLP Forums come over here to find roommates and travel buddies. If a con is maintaining its own forum independently (BronyCon, for example, currently does), it makes more sense to seek con buddies there than anywhere else (including here) as a con's official forum is where you'll find everyone else who's planning to attend it. Even if we create a general con section here, people posting in it will be looking for fellow attendees going to specific conventions - that function would be best served by a con's official forum, wherever it happens to be. I'd certainly be happy to accommodate more conventions here in the future, but I can't confirm or deny anything at this time.
  2. By the look of it, fluffle may have added you to the conversation, Snails. Is that what happened?
  3. Amazon.com will happily ship them internationally. I live in Canada, and had no problems getting them.
  4. Regarding Harmonic Revelations, if you have any further details (like a home address, phone number, date of birth, etc.), please contact me. I've reported the situation to the police, and getting closer coordinates on her will be very helpful.

  5. I took a look at this and should have it fixed now. Tech details below, if you care: The realtime notifications are a homegrown customization to IP.Board, involving an additional server-side process. We have a program in place that's supposed to keep the notifications process running, but for some reason, it didn't. It appears that it hadn't loaded up its configuration file correctly, so I restarted it - after which it promptly brought the notifications process online. To test that it was working as intended now, I manually killed the notifications process a few times, and it successfully came back in moments. Judging from this, it should continue working seamlessly now as long as the host server does.
  6. Congrats on the MBA! Why not go back for a Ph.D.?
  7. The character minimum is not a game. It's not a challenge you're supposed to "break". If you acknowledge and embrace the spirit in which it was implemented (encouraging substantive posts), it will give you absolutely no trouble.
  8. Please start reporting heated posts if you see any thread outside the debate pit reach that point. Every last one of them.
  9. Regardless of this suggestion's technical feasibility, it is not a feature I would be interested in seeing on MLP Forums. Your profile here is a representation of you as an MLP Forums user, not a personal website. Putting the brakes on its appearance helps profiles not only have a consistent look from member to member, but prevents the inevitable onslaught of the "coolness" that is red-on-black or similarly eye-gouging colour combinations (yes, it will happen - and no, I don't expect the moderation team to want to deal with it). It certainly won't help profiles look more professional.
  10. Neither. It's a generic designation, not a specific position. No one's title is actually "Poniverse Staff"; rather, it just means their primary work for Poniverse (with the exception of the tech support team) is not actually for MLP Forums. There's more to Poniverse than one site! The designation encompasses staff positions from lead designer to lore writer - you can't fit these into the forum hierarchy, because they're not usually part of it.
  11. Protip: if you want more members to stick around, say hello to them and make yourself known in the Welcoming Plaza.
  12. I've been patching our servers this morning for the just-unearthed "Heartbleed" vulnerability. The process included a bit of downtime on our search engine as that was affected by the issue, but it is back online now.
  13. On the thread index, look for the reply count: Try clicking the "1 reply/X replies" part.
  14. To Tartarus with it all.

  15. I'm done here. Clearly, my ways of order and progress are undesired, and there was a terrible truth buried in the upper echelons of my own website. Rearing its devious head over the years, I've suppressed it one too many times. I will hide it no more - there is a wonderful world out there to explore, and what remains of my Feldian powers will be of infinitely more benefit to the vast unknown than this formerly beautiful place I sculpted into existence. Have it. Have it all, you chaotic do-no-goods! There's nothing left for me here, anyway.
  16. As of last week, I am now a very happy Mac user. Spaces and the underlying *nix design of the system have been the greatest things to me as a software developer.
  17. FYI, we are under a DDoS attack. Apologies in advance if some things are a little weird for the next little while.

Its okay Feld0, I know you and the rest of the team are doing your best to keep everything safe, and running smoothly.

  18. Hey Mitch - thanks for the heads-up! This has been fixed - the IP.Board theme properly displays opt-in ads now.
  19. Is this a student exchange or an out-of-country field trip? I would personally take the school trip over the pony convention - it's likely to offer more in the way of radically new experiences. I certainly don't regret leaving some other things aside for major field trips when I was in high school - opportunities to travel like that will be rarer later on.
  20. I added this. The password recovery email now contains your login name and clearly instructs you to use it.
  21. This thread is about people spending money to advertise their video on YouTube, not earning something from the ads shown on their own videos. The main issue I'd see with such is sustaining it - buying a little exposure can become very addictive, and I'd hope that anyone who's shelling out cash to drive attention to their work has a plan to get a return on their investment, and maintaining financial sustainability for fan projects isn't always easy. It is unfortunate that there are people out there who are deeply opposed to the notion of creators earning something from their passions, and feel that it's wrong to get money from something more fun and engaging than retail work. But if those paying for the ads are at least able to break even, I certainly won't mind seeing more poni on YouTube. Psst... there are upsides to not using ad blockers...
  22. This may not help very much now, but from personal experience, I can highly recommend not trusting anyone with software upgrades - not even the software vendor. Take a working backup before your next upgrade; it'll save you a lot of grief if and when it doesn't go as planned.
