  1. Attended my first class after Spring Break. Wrote notes on my pony OC instead of listening to the lecture. Oops.

  2. I'm a little annoyed. I had my first pony dream a few days ago and now I can't remember what it was! I should've written it down...
  3. Naming is the most difficult part of making a pony OC. Took me a month to figure mine out. Anyway. I was thinking since she likes to make crafts and the like, make the name be related to that. Hmm...her mane seems to be...reddish? Fuschia? So maybe that could be a part of her name, too. Fuschia Spool or Fuschia Loom. Those are the first two in my head.
  4. Hello, Magic! Welcome to the forums. Why not tell us a little bit about yourself? What are your hobbies? A favorite film or two, perhaps?
  5. It is kind of a shame to see films relying more on visual effects to impress people as opposed to any real substance. The most recent one I saw like that was The Immortals. The film looked pretty nice, and the fight scenes were...admittedly, pretty cool. But it is extremely rare that I care so little for what is actually going on in a film. Haha. But I like it when films manage to effectively use newer visual effects to actually tell their story and give it substance. This is just my opinion, but I recently saw the movie Chronicle and I think did this very well. It used the "found footage" style of storytelling, but it wasn't a horror movie (although some parts could be considered scary, I suppose). But I felt like it was really more of a character driven story and really puts a realistic and human view on the idea of getting superpowers. I mean, they're high school kids who get these powers. (I am going to majorly avoid spoilers for this, obviously) But, yeah, I felt like it used more modern visual filmmaking techniques to simply tell a story of what would realistically happen, more or less, if these teenage kids suddenly got these incredible powers and how they'd use them to deal with things in their daily lives.
  6. That is beautiful. Pure and simple. I love all the small details. Truly, this is one of my favorite pieces of Twilight Sparkle art. Nicely done, Pencils!
  7. I still find it interesting that Twilight studies all these different kinds of magic (and that magic even exists) and she can do just about anything with it, even control the will and emotions of others. But time travel is an absolutely absurd concept to her. What.

  8. My friend Laura came over for the mare-a-thon. We watched about 11 episodes of the first season while designing our own pony OCs. An afternoon well spent.

Your girlfriend Laura or just your friend?

Haha. Just my friend. I don't have a girlfriend.

  9. Heyo, heyo! Happy birthday, Jokuc! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzAPDnnCjZs (Oh! Haha. Someone already linked it. Oh well. HERE IT IS TWICE!)

It's the third time I get the link, but thanks anyways! :)

  10. I always thought I'd want to be a full-time writer. I still want to be a writer and get published one day, but I wouldn't want to do it full-time. I think that would take the enjoyment out of it. I would be fine working as a teacher, possibly. Perhaps teach literature and creative writing and then write on the side. That would be ideal for me, I think.
  11. I would say "yes" and "no." I think you could count bronies as a subculture, of sorts? But, really, if the basic ideals behind bronies are "love" and "tolerance" then that's not really anything new or anything remotely exclusive to bronies. Hippies were basically about the same thing. That's sort of a tough question to answer.
  12. I used to be a major South Park fan. I mean, for the most part, I still am. There are still episodes that make me laugh. Sometimes I guess I feel like it tries too hard. I also feel that it's just trying to be edgy as opposed to funny. Which, contrary to popular belief, are not mutually exclusive. I mean, I'll give them credit for generally being clever with the writing. Sometimes I find it annoying, though. I think it reminds me too much of people I've known who are really judgmental about people sometimes, which is why it turns me off. So it's really more of a personal reason, I guess. I still love the earlier seasons, though.
  13. I'm at a point now where I don't think the origin of a horror film has anything to do with how good of a horror film it is. I suppose the highest amount of good ones I've seen have come out of South Korea. But, really, I've also seen some bad ones from South Korea, and Japan, and Italy, and Germany and other places. Bad horror is kind of universal. Haha. You really just have to do a lot of digging to find good horror. There are lots of good American horror films. Paranormal Activity 1 and 3 were very good in my opinion. I didn't like the second one so much. It didn't feel scary. But this is also the trouble with discussing where the best horror comes from. It's all subjective. Not everyone finds the same things scary. I find asian ghost films to be generally creepy, but other friends of mine tend to think they're stupid. Or, for me, the films about violent subhumans (The Descent and films like that), while I do think they can be scary and intense, never have long lasting effects on me. I don't know why, but for some reason, that kind of horror just doesn't get under my skin as more supernatural ones do. I guess it all matters what you want out of a horror movie or what personally scares you the most.
  14. My friend has given My Little Pony another chance. She watched three episodes, and she really likes it. She agreed to have a mare-a-thon with me. I'm pleased with this development.

Yeah! She watched the episodes Sisterhooves Social, The Last Roundup, and Read It and Weep. Not bad choices.

  15. I would definitely love to see story arcs that last for more than one episode. It'd be a nice change of pace, even though I am totally fine with them being purely episodic as well. I don't know about one lasting for a whole season. There's a chance that would be good, but I think I'd get arc fatigue.
  16. Ah, yes, I remember Cow and Chicken did something like that. I believe it was a rancher drowning out his sorrows in milk because his cows wouldn't stampede. But, yeah, I think jokes like that are for the chance parents are watching the show with their kids. Just something subtle for them to laugh at. It's definitely been done before.
  17. Sure am! I just finished paying off my reserve copy yesterday and I am going in to pick it up today, once GameStop actually opens. It is going to be GREAT!
  18. More or less like this: "You don't like people outside the target demographic watching My Little Pony? Hahaha." (Credit to Mixermike622 at deviantart for the awesome gif)
  19. Yeah, I'd say my usual reaction is to smile. Though, thinking about ponies has caused me to openly laugh in public. Which I'm always a little self-conscious about. Being the guy who suddenly laughs out loud for seemingly no reason. Haha.
  20. Honestly, I'm so used to more innocent shows having dark and twisted parodies of it. I mean, the whole grimdark thing is kind of a standard. Sometimes it irks me, yeah, because I didn't like Cupcakes very much. And I understand the want to keep the show's innocence. But, honestly, I love the .MOV series. There is nothing wrong with not liking those things. But, I don't know, that's what I sort of like about the brony community (and, well, any fandom in general, I suppose) is that the creativity is varied and unique. I mean, some of the original songs that people make have taken more innocent aspects of the show and put a dark twist on them. Off the top of my head, two examples are Rainbow Factory and Want It, Need It. I love both of those songs, but they are pretty dark interpretations of things in the show. Sometimes I guess you could consider it a little "too far", but I like that variety. I don't mind darker interpretations of innocent shows, though sometimes it does irk me that people seem to think dark = brutal violence. I guess my point is people show their love for something in different ways that will seem strange to others. I think that's perfectly okay. Though, I definitely wouldn't want kids to see those things. Not until they're older, at least, should they even want to see them. Anyway. That's my two cents?
  21. It was a David Bowie reference, I think.

  23. I admit there are a few of those composers I am not familiar with, but I recognize most of them and they are excellent choices! Tchaikovsky and Yuki Kajiura are very nice.
  24. Oh, yes! I just finished paying off my Mass Effect 3 reservation. I can't wait!

  25. Oh, neat! I like writing horror stories and sad stories too, actually. But I try and write other things too, including fanfiction. You should give fanfics a try, see if you like it. They can be pretty fun to think of, and I think they make good practice.
