  1. I always find the inverse weird. For example, Octonauts is a show about a polar bear, a cat, and a penguin (there are other characters, but those are the main ones) who go around helping fish. These are all animals that eat lots of fish! But on the show they appear to survive on a diet of mostly kelp, algae and biscuits.
  2. I have something that's fairly close to Received Pronunciation.
  3. Caption for new avatar: "Silver Spoon Regrets Nothing!"

One interpretation of avatar: Silver Spoon tries lighting her farts.

  4. I think you're overinterpreting the "is" in "Friendship is Magic". Friendship ≠ Magic. Friendship ⊂ Magic. The sky is blue. But not all blue things are the sky.
  5. That is one very beautiful Silver Spoon pic you have there.

  6. Somebody needs to draw a picture of human Sunset Shimmer and Rainbow Dash playing guitar in this kind of pose http://cdn.buzznet.com/assets/users16/xmcrxmajorxlover/default/synyster-gates-zacky-vengeance--large-msg-117898522157.jpg

  7. I do! I do! Wait, you said "with"? No thanks.
  8. Bonfire night, the ocean, cut grass, your pants... you know, all the standard stuff. Because smell and taste are so related, it's pretty much guaranteed that any food I like the taste of I'll also like the smell of. Bacon deserves a special mention though. So does fish & chips. Also I concur with about Subway. (I'm assuming she meant the sandwich chain, and not the dank urine-soaked tunnels underneath the city streets.)
  9. They're the same colour as the eyelashes instead. Yes, just like our eyebrows do, right? Right? It's just me?

    Save Stupid!

One of our cats almost died a couple of years ago from something similar — urinary tract crystals. It cost many, many hundreds of pounds to diagnose and treat him, and he now has to be on a special (expensive) diet, but he's pretty healthy and fit these days.

I should hope so too! These are important concerns and the world is waiting for answers!

  11. Actually I think it's probably a lot easier for someone who speaks English as a second language to make the distinction. For example, in Dutch, "your" would be "uw", but "you're" would be "je bent". In Dutch there is no possibility of mixing these up. They're two very separate ideas and you'd translate one as "your" and one as "you're" or "you are". For native English speakers, who grow up saying a word which sounds like "yorr" before they learn to read and write, it then takes a conscious effort for them to train themselves to distinguish between two different (but still quite related) meanings of that utterance, and spell them differently. (And let's not forget about "yore" and "yaw" which both exist, even if they're a lot less common.)
  12. How long have these been here? Honestly, I go away for a few days, and look what I miss!
  13. I think Frozen and Tangled are two of the most visually glorious films I've ever seen. The ice and snow in Frozen are amazingly well-rendered. You know Disney had been planning to make a film based on the Snow Queen since 1940. Yes, 19-frickin'-40! The improvements in digitally animating ice and snow that Disney had made in recent years was one of the major things that made it possible for them to finally do it. The two scenes that I think are the most stunning are the Let It Go sequence as well as the blizzard at the climax of the film. Tangled uses a pretty similar animation style. The most breathtaking scene in that film is the bit with the boat and the lanterns. The dam-bursting sequence is pretty spectacular too though. There are some pretty nicely animated scenes in the new Tinker Bell film, The Legend of the Neverbeast, including a scene that reminded me of the Tangled lantern scene. Just a little shout-out for Rainbow Rocks too. Although the animation style is a lot more simplistic than the above two, the final battle during Welcome to the Show is gorgeously done. It's beautiful, and so perfectly complements the soundtrack for that portion of the film. OK, so it's never going to match up with the stuff Disney puts out, but they had a fraction of the budget to play with.
  14. My wife and I have a shared Google calendar that is set up on both our phones. Makes it very easy for scheduling stuff.
  15. Welcome, welcome, welcome... a fine welcome to you! I live just along the road from you! (And by "just" I mean a couple of hundred miles.) (And by "road" I mean the A35/A31/A27.)

I didn't know that pic came from an actual fan fiction. XD It's perfect.

The fan fic was inspired by the pic. She only wrote that story a few days ago.

  17. Photons and gluons are generally believed to be massless. Obviously it doesn't know anything. I don't believe inanimate objects have brains. But gravity is still knowledge. If I don't know the earth exists, I can detect its existence from the gravitational force it exerts on its surrounding objects. If an incredibly massive object appeared one light minute (a convenient measure of distance for this example) behind me, then would I start being attracted to it instantly (in which case it's a form of faster-than-light communication)? Or would it take a minute before I fell towards it? Less? More? Some kind of signal is reaching me from that object to tell me to fall towards it.
  18. @JonasDarkmane,@VinylWubs,@~Phoenix~,,@Blacklight,@CrimsonBlade34,@Emerald<3 Vital Spark had been listening to the other ponies debating matters for some time. This wasn't her town, and she didn't feel right trying to interfere, but she thought there was something obvious that hadn't been pointed out. "Has anyone here looked for clues? Who are some of the ponies who have recently disappeared? Can we figure out what they have in common? Do we know where they were last seen before they vanished? Can we retrace their steps?"
  19. It would be cool if someone edited it into something like this, where you have a line or two from each language: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OC83NA5tAGE
  20. It does look pretty, but my last two Apple laptops died of hardware failures, so I swore off Apple products a few years ago.
  21. Some of those look better than most Lego products, but still if you look at the product details they say: They can't resist the temptation to throw in a few instructions.
