  1. My largest telescope is ready to go. There's still a couple clouds hanging around.

It's neat how the heat from the back patio is illuminating the telescope in the thermal image.

Sky's clear! I'll be posting more images soon.

I'm glad to hear that! :yay:

Mars is looking better each night as the dust settles.

  2. I wouldn't say hot, but Fluttershy is adorable.
  3. Come on Rainbow Dash, there's still a few clouds around that need moving.

Not the clouds again... Always there when you don't need them... :okiedokieloki:

  4. I like dogs more, tho I did have a cat when I was little.
  5. Thank you! Tomorrow night is looking really good in the forecast. I plan to setup the SkyWatcher 16, if the conditions hold up. I also want to take another shot at Venus in UV. It's sinking lower in the sky every night.
  6. Last night was fantastic for planetary imaging! The atmosphere was calm and that helped a ton with dialing in the focus. The storm near Saturn's Polar Hexagon appears to have grown in size since I last imaged it. The dust on Mars is continuing to settle; however, the planet is moving away from us. It will take on more of a gibbous phase and decrease in brightness and apparent size as time goes on. The last 2 Mars images are Near Infrared, which is able to penetrate the remaining dust a little better. Last image is my Celestron C8 telescope and tracking mount in thermal infrared (wavelengths 2-5 microns). Cameras: ZWO ASI224MC (color); ASI178MM (Near IR/UV)
  7. Last night was wonderful! The atmosphere was as steady as one could ask for. I will be posting more images of Mars and Saturn pretty soon.

The storm near the Polar Hexagon appears to have grown in size, since the last time I saw it.

Thanks. The humidity and mosquitoes were bad but I can't complain when the sky is clear. Hopefully tomorrow night stays clear. I plan to setup my large telescope.

  8. Yoshi's Island (SNES) is my favorite Mario game. I remember spending a lot of evenings on that game when I was a kid. The final boss battle with Bowser charging towards the screen was epic! The final boss music was awesome too. Super Mario World is a very close 2nd favorite.
  9. I don't drink alcohol very often. I'll drink beer at a party or maybe on a weekend after doing some yard work. Sometimes, I'll drink a shot of whiskey to clear out my throat after a cold or sinus infection.
  10. I think about this sometimes when I'm doing some astrophotography or just looking at the planets. I tend to think that we're not alone. As others have pointed out, the universe is vast, so there must be some other form of life out there. If there are advanced alien civilizations, I hope they're friendly. If not, at least we have distance on our side. lol
  11. Ah, finally! The clouds have cleared out. Time to setup my telescope. Mars and Saturn are out.

That's amazing! :wau: I didn't know it was possible to see Neptune – and yeah, you can't see much detail there, but seeing an object so far away even that well is awesome!

Thanks! I am excited to see what my 16" diameter telescope can show on Neptune and Uranus this fall.

Ooooh wow! I hope you get some good pictures!

  12. I use to play Super Mario Bros and the Duck Hunt game on my aunt's NES. I think the oldest game I own is Super Mario World. I replaced the game save battery in it and others about 2 years ago.
  13. I'm finally starting to get the hang of this thermal camera. I am very curious to see what the Moon looks like thru it.

I really like the reflections from the cup of hot water in the thermal image.

I know, right? I find it fascinating how objects appear in light that is invisible to us.

wow is an absolutely perfect and interesting square.

  14. t ate a biscuit drowned with Blackburn-Made syrup for breakfast. It's good and I had to eat something before working on some equipment outside in the heat.
  15. I really do not like McDonald's, so I only go if I have my little cousins with me. They love it. I tend to eat at Wendy's or Ward's maybe once a week or so.
  16. Another cloudy, hazy night so I probably won't be able to image Mars. This is a good time to play around with my thermal infrared camera.

One of my telescopes, at room temperature, imaged at 2-5 microns

  17. 1. Relatable characters 2. Relaxing to watch 3. Decent animation
  18. I'm not much of a party person myself, but It's hard to turn down free food. I'd go. lol
  19. I would buy some land somewhere in the western U.S. with no light pollution, then buy a ridiculously large telescope and build a private observatory. I'd also donate some to charity, of course.
  20. No. I have my own house, so I don't have to worry about my mom walking in while I'm on the forum. Besides, she wouldn't even care if I liked MLP. I've always loved cartoons and everyone in my family knows that.
  21. Forecast calls for the clouds to clear out later tonite. Might take another shot at imaging Mars.

  22. I may have picked up a pencil or something laying around when I was a kid, but shoplifting? Nope.
  23. I have my hobbies and enjoy hanging out with friends; however, spending time with my family makes me the happiest.
  24. I am thinking about where I want to level a new spot on my property for my telescope. I always setup on my back patio, but those days are numbered as the trees are beginning to block the southern sky.
