  1. I don't intentionally get drunk, but I'm definitely still calibrating (sure, tell em that) myself to my limits, since I'm only 21 and haven't been drinking for long. There are definitely diminishing returns after the second glass of wine on an empty stomach (in contrast, for me, two glasses after a large dinner has no effect), but it's easy to pour some more and keep sipping, even though the buzz plateaus and so you're just wasting money at that point. But there are a few phases for me. If I'm having some beer with my parents, I go from rather reserved around them, to quite open and conversational. That's not "drunk" though. The next phase is the two glasses on wine on an empty stomach, which is the sweetspot for alcohol for me, I think. At this point rapid-fire speech is no longer possible without sounding like a doofus. But I'm still in control of my sedentary self (might trip if I tried running though), and this reveals a fun side of myself I wish I were more in touch with not drinking. This is when I'll ask you questions I'm really curious about that I normally would refrain from asking. Or statements that start like "You know what's actually ridiculous? Let me tell you about (thing)." (And the next day I never regret it. I wish I were less inhibited in general) The last phase is "gee, I'm exhausted. Time for bed." I've never had that phase happen around other people, nor do I intend to, so I don't know what I'd be like. This phase is a mistake, because the point of alcohol is the anxiolytic effect; the de-stressing. And you can't feel that when you're asleep!
  2. I think the chances of the show showing Queen Novo are slim. Which is a shame, because the Hippogriffs/Sea Ponies are the only new parts of the movie that really made sense. They'd have to create a new flash model for Queen Novo, and since she's never going to get significant screen time due to her having a special VA, it's not worth the effort.
  3. She shattered the five stones that contained dormant versions of the elements, and Twilight’s element materialized out of nothing IIRC. The “pure” elements didn’t need the rocks to be perfectly spherical to reactivate. Whereas Sombra broke the pure elements and their power source, so they couldn’t be reconstituted. So it’s slightly different. Rainbow Power is a mystery I guess. i would say it was a one time power up, but I remember that Pinkie did it randomly one time. It’s probably also tied to the Tree of Harmony, since it came out of the lockbox. the progression of power ups is interesting. The most reliable were the element jewelries, which required a “spark” the first time, but subsequently only required the consent of all six bearers, and sourced power from the Tree. The Rainbow Power wasn’t tied to the physical elements, and seemed to require dire circumstances to activate (if we take Pinkie’s random transformation as a joke, which seems safe) along with the consent of all six, while still sourcing its power from the Tree. The thing they did in this episode, however, required dire circumstances. That is, it wasn’t as simple as putting in necklaces and zapping people; it required the mental/completely active participation of the Mane 6, and the power came from within, not using the Tree as a crutch, finally. So it is different. The elements were definitely more reliable though, since they didn’t require emotional exertion to use.
  4. I’m not a fan of the “old people don’t die” thing. We hand waved it for the sisters, because their existence was thought to be foundational lore... though their retiring slightly cripples that idea. We can hand wave it for Starswirl because he’s a sorcerer. But for example, Mage Meadowbrook was said to have “disappeared” centuries ago. We would later find out that that was true, but the character who said it had no way of knowing her final fate, and should have assumed it was death. If Gusty is the Tree, then I fear they’ll have to do some dancing to explain why she’s a spirit not a pony. I feel like that’s too obviously an example of death that they won’t be able to explain it away skillfully. Because I doubt they’d straight up say “old person died because that’s what happens.”
  5. For one, she doesn't sleep all day, because that would be excessive. In "Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep" she was sleeping at night.
  6. From the episode "Royal Problem," it seems like during the night, Luna gets the equivalent of a very poor night's sleep. She doesn't just act act like she's had a long day. If it were that, we would not expect the grumpiness and lack of appetite. Her response to Celestia's breakfast is one of morning-grumpiness, which is a result of tiredness after a mediocre night's sleep. But the episode also implies that Luna goes to her quarters after the morning arrives, and sleeps. So during the night, she still sleeping, in a sense, just very poorly, and she sleeps for real in the morning until she is rested. But in "Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep," Luna is shown to be in bed, sleeping, at night, instead of consciously maintaining the dream world spell like we saw in Royal Problem. What do you think is the solution to this, if there is one?
  7. It’s not really confirmed that he went home. He just got on a train with everyone else, so I took it that he was visiting Mt. Aeris for the holiday or something. Either way, I think this episode is supposed to happen before BGE, unless we skipped a year.
  8. I must admit, whenever they referred to the tree in seasons 7 and 8 I zoned out, so I have almost no memory of what it’s all about. I’m currently rewatching the show and I’m finally at the start of season 7. The newest material is what I’m least familiar with.
  9. I can't rewind and get a better look a the new tree temple thing. But I think the inside of Twilight's castle is great. Never really had problems with the outside design. Also why is the spirit of the tree a ghost Twilight? Has that been explained before?
  10. The permission slip montage? I thought that was one of the more significant parts of the episode. It was necessary to establish why the students are back in Ponyville in the summer. I found the infighting segments to be a bit dull, so I'm glad the episode was not solely focused on the infighting.
  11. Castle Sweet Castle slipped my memory too, but now I remember that that episode was pretty similar to this, even ending with a song.
  12. They should have done an episode like this for the Golden Oak Library. The connection of the students to the tree seems less significant than the connection of the Mane 6 to the old library. I had forgotten that the Tree had a role in the season 8 premiere, and I still don't really remember what happened in that episode. Aaand it's back. And massive! I expect that this season will do things a little more linearly than previous seasons, since this ended on a soft cliffhanger. This seems to be significantly before classes actually start, so I bet much of the coming episodes will be adventures for the students.
  13. Commercial break. Looks like this is a proper follow up to the premiere, more so than any season before. I haven't seen any spoilers or read the synopsis, so I don't know what happens!
  14. Aight. About to catch this boy live. I haven't seen an episode live since late season 4, and streaming has increased in quality A LOT since then.
  15. Well Luna was out of the picture for 1000 years... she's expendable
  16. Never heard of husbandos lol. hus-Bandos Godsword amirite
  17. What kind of disgusting degenerate opens chip bags the wrong way
  18. I’m not convinced Sombra is dead, mainly because of what Grogar said to him. Grogar said he would revive him and make him a slave if he failed. That line doesn’t make any sense if it’s not going to happen later. I think Grogar will resurrect Sombra again. But I do t think there is anything shifty going on. Grogar seemed sincere about his plan for the villains to work together. So it doesn’t seem like he’s going to pull a submissive Sombra out as a secret weapon.
  19. I guess I mean all of the diplomatic stuff is akin to border disputes.
  20. He’s “developed” in that we’ve seen varied stories with him. Like the other Mane 6 except Twilight, there hasn’t been an obvious attempt to make them better persons. They’ve been developed in the sense that they’ve been rounded out, but though the team as a unit has progressed, each individual has not, besides Twilight. The Mane 5’s personal arcs have been goal-based, not character-based. But Spike really isn’t part of the progress of the Mane 6. They’ve made him more interesting, but there is no arc. If anything, he allows us to see something that hasn’t changed, while everything else does.
  21. I've not read much fanfiction at all. What turns me off is not even the cringe stories, like you mentioned, it's the cringe writing. Writing a narrative well is hard! The dialogue and sketch of the plot are usually the best parts actually. But the style of the writing is usually amateurish.
  22. I like Starlight, especialy paired with Trixie, because they represent more realistic characters than the Mane 6. The Mane 6 are archetypes. It's easy to relate to some aspect of Twilight, or some aspect of Rainbow Dash. But for all of the the Mane 6, none of their flaws are insurmountable. This makes them classical hero characters. However, real people often do have insurmountable flaws, and don't possess clear direction. The Mane 6 are a means for the writers to tell stories of success and triumph. Starlight and Trixie are a great foil to the Mane 6 archetypes. It's more difficult to relate to these two specifically than the Mane 6; that is, neither of them has an 'element of harmony' that the viewer can prefer. But it is easier to relate to these two generally. The show has room to portray them as flawed, mediocre, anti-social, even morally ambivalent characters: more like ordinary human beings. Because of this, I found myself rooting for Starlight (and Trixie!) even when they are misbehaving.
  23. Turning them against one another has been explored in several episodes, so they probably won't do that again. But turning her actually evil, like a villain? That would be very out of character for the show.
