Hi Samurai Equine buddy, how are you today?

Well that would put my character in a strange position. My main OC has two variations to his story; a canon-story and a more RP-friendly story. The latter would be good for what you're probably thinking of, but the chances of my main OC actually running into the Mane 6 (or anyone closely tied to them) is very slim. Maybe on the off chance that Samurai has been tasked with protecting Equestria in some way, they might meet. However, in most occasions, they would never meet. Samurai is usually tasked to protect his homeland, Japone, but is willing to do more if Celestia, the princesses, or his superiors order him to do something else. He's not known to travel much outside of Japone unless ordered to do so. Being a samurai means being a loyal soldier that obeys orders, you see.
At most, maybe some of the Mane 6 or their closest friends might travel to Japone for one reason or another, but they probably have more important matters to attend to than speaking to some random samurai.
However, my other OC would have a greater chance of meeting them. His name is Trilby Hatter. Just a normal citizen. I like to believe that because of his profession, hat making, it has lead him to cross paths with Rarity a few times. And not always in a good way.

I see what you mean. :
I would not have it any other way, if that's how you want your OC to be, that is okay. As for my OC, living in their kingdom, though I am not up to the part where my OC in my fanfic has settled in anywhere there yet as the rebirth saga is not yet written. I need to come up with an area of Equestria where my character would live, I've come up with some early drafts of this AU where Applejack finds my OC alone in the morning in Everfree Forest, but even then, unless I come up with some ideas for where Dawnshine lives, possibly a wooden cabin somewhere on the rural landscapes outside Ponyville, it does not quite work. Friendship lessons would be easier to engage with if my OC was not too far away from civilization. Your OC Samurai Equine living in Japone but not engaging much with activities Mane 6 do makes sense however, as the occupations are so vastly different to each other. I don't know if my OC would talk with Mane Six very much outside events like Nightmare Night or other festivals, as they have more important matters as well to deal with than talking to some civilian who in that lifetime is probably too shy to engage with the public much, having little to no memory of a past life in this fantasy of this fanfic it would be the only life my OC being aware of, until told about a past life later on my a character in the story, as well as friends who ended up there as their own OC, I already have a friend who wishes to be a part of this story.

I see.
Part of why I have written my main OC this way is because of a social defense mechanism. I've been to many other fandoms, and people tend to hate when you make an OC and inject them into the lives of the main characters. Your OC isn't canon, so people hate it when you act like they are. The closer your OC gets to those main characters, the worse it is. They might call your OC a Mary Sue/Gary Stu. Doesn't matter if your OC is close friends to any of them, romantically involved, family, a villain, a rival, etc. People often say "If you love the characters, just admit that you love the characters. Stop pretending you know them."I don't want to upset anyone. By having a character that is usually stuck to one geographical location, away from Ponyville or any other commonly-visited locations, it decreases his chances of interacting with the main characters. There is still a chance, but it's slim.
Though I must say, the pony fandom seems way more understanding and welcoming to OCs. I've seen criticism towards alicorn characters and red ponies, but for the most part, way more welcoming and accepting.
