Why Are Bronies Disliked?

Aureity

Recommended Posts

My favorite thing about the bronies is how loving and tolerating they are. Sure, we're hardly perfect and we sometimes have to watch ourselves when we use those words too carelessly. Regardless, I have NEVER seen another community that embraces the differences of other people so openly and enthusiastically.

I hope one day that hatred will be non-existant and everyone will understand each other's problems so there's no teasing or bullying anymore.

I don't understand why people hate on harmless interests but I know there reasons.

Usually it's just because it's something they are ill-informed about or don't care to be informed about.

Other than trolls and ignorant people, some do hate bronies more than the show for more/less good reasons.

I will have to admit amongst Brony brethren and sisters that some can be just as obnoxious as most Internet trolls. Some even are complete zealots who take their fandom too seriously. (And let's not even mention the dark corner of cloppers and rule 34 that the media tries to put spotlight on the most over the majority of bronies.)

A few bad apples spoil the bunch, but bronies stand strong as we know who we are and proud no matter what anyone thinks.

Posibility and Potential are my two favorite words.

There are alot of reasons. Some of them fear us, some are just bothered by the thought. There are some many reasons it is impossible to answer this question. I think alot of it comes from the people the hater is around. If you were around alot of people who did not accept things that were different then you would not learn to accept it and would probably hate on it, but if you were around people who accepted the fact that things are going to be different and people are going to be who they want to be than you would accept it and not let that get in the way of anything. Basically they are just bullies.

Well, The general consensus is that people only know the older generations of the show, Such as G1. These are pretty rubbish representations of us because they show a girly figure with shaky plot lines and cliché stories that was aimed for girls at the age of 7.

Brony's of the fourth generation are not perceived as we should be because non-brony's who hate the show usually haven't given the fourth generation a go! I mean, Sure; A few people who don't like us have seen their fair share of the programme, but a lot of people don't quite understand it. The feeling that follows, is as you say, 'Hatred'.

Hope I helped! :D

There are a lot of reasons people might hate this show. If you don't watch the show all you need to do is turn on the TV and most of the media doesn't take kindly to Bronies. And some of the google images, kinda put us in a bad light. I have nothing against cloppers or rule 34. But, haters see that and probably think all Bronies are like that. In Lamens Terms: Haters will hate on things they don't understand.

Usually when there's a few rotten apples in a fandom (the freaks who make pornographic fan art, etc.), people on the outside think that the entire fandom is like that. Those R34 spastiks pretty much set our bad image, haters think we're all like that, and they hate us for it.

It's their choice and opinion.

And frankly bronies partake in  the hate the receive. (Not  all, so get your panties/boxers out of that wad)

Because they don't understand them. Bronies are deviants, they aren't afraid to go against societies guidelines and enjoy something that isn't expected. Other than that it really only boils down to stereotyping, people like to assume that if a mature male is into a young girls cartoon then there is something wrong with them and "normal" people should not associate with them on a friendly base.

To make it as simple as possible, the reason people hate bronies is because of misunderstanding and ignorance.

As someone who likes the show, but A: Refuses to make an OC, B: Still distances himself, C: Really didn't like stuff around season 3, I can try to offer my mid-way opinion.

1. Bronies tend to talk solely about ponies. Even fans of many other genres are not so tunnel-visioned. Everything has to be themed around ponies, and it's weird to see fanfictions and videos that stand perfectly well on their own, and yet every character is a pony just because the author likes them - not because there is ANY thematic relation to MLP.

Did you know there are Homestar Runner lemon-fanfictions? Yeah, making a love story is okay, but I feel like there are areas where you just have to admit you didn't want to come up with a wholely original world (or base something on the real world)

2. Bronies react fast. Understand that people make jokes about all crowds - Emos, Call of Duty players, furries, etc. But bronies tend to take it personally and have a "Accept it or get the heck out" attitude. For instance, one time I posted a YouTube comment on someone's pony video curiously asking "Man, how is it that all bronies gather this sort of artistic drive that would never have existed if they were fans of something else"?, perhaps worded differently. I assure you there was nothing inherently offensive about it. Regardless, after a few replies it seemed people had assumed me to be some anti-brony, and my comment was downvoted so much that I think eventually I was blocked from future posting, and so couldn't explain myself.

3. Many people are afraid of twisted gender roles. We're just coming out of that phase of reiterating to people "being gay is okay", so when it's one specific lesson, they can accept it. However, I think there is in fact some inherent phobia in many people of the way gender roles twist.

I even admit that there are some transgender people I know online, and it's kind of a weird thing to deal with. They get offended each time they're referred to by their "incorrect" gender, and you'll note that I put that in quotation marks - I'm still not sure I accept the idea behind it, though I have to acknowledge they've put up with a lot more humiliation and cruelty in their lives than I have.

4. I'm sure plenty of people just see it as a meme used to annoy people, not quite understanding the show itself to be funny or well-presented. When they see it in so many YouTube related videos, it can get annoying if it's not what you're looking for.

Just my advice for avoiding hate, though some people are gonna be jackasses anyway: If you know someone is disinterested in ponies, don't bring them up needlessly. If they're simply unaware, there's no reason to shove them in their face, or hide your interests from them either. And be sure that you are spreading your interests out; liking just one thing is going to make you a vicious, hateful person when Season X?X turns out to be horrible. Maybe MLP has twisted your love of Gears of War or Mass Effect, but maybe there are other animated shows that you might like? (Adventure Time, or Gravity Falls for instance)

Everyone who looks down on them is just playing society says. It spreads a message of love and tolerance people just don't see that, they see grown men watching a little girls show. Its understandable, but i do find their ignorance insulting at times.

The reason people hate on bronies is quite simple, actually. I could drone on and on about it, but I'll put it in a nutshell. Haters hate on us because we're different. We like something not intended originally for us. Are there other reasons? Yes. But that is the main reasons.

The obvious answer is that when something is not of the social and cultural norm, things receive hate unfortunately, it leaves little room to innovate because people are worried about what others will say. Let's just use Dennis Rodman for example. Strange character to say the least.

I made a video that may stealthily help towards this.

It will not seem relevant at first. Give it time...

(I actually got MaxOfS2D to briefly feature this video on his channel, even though he's previously said that he thinks bronies are dumb. I'm pretty sure at the time, he did not get the inside joke.)

This thread raises another important question. Why do people even give a *SQUEE*? Seriously. It's stupid how many times I see this topic being brought up in this community. One day some world renowned Brony will stand on a cardboard box and say;

"Hear ye, hear ye! I come bearing good tidings. Bronies no longer to live in the industrial face of oppresion, for my peers and I have developed a philosophy we call: Simply not giving a crap about what other people think about what we enjoy."

And then the ponies will wipe their tears from their eyes and rejoice, finally understanding the truth.

I have never met a community with members burdened with so many inferiority complexes before. We should be proud of what we're passionate about. And this applies to everything in life.

One should never feel ashamed and let down when someone disagrees with what their heart tells them to do.

People just don't like it when others get rabid about something they're not into. Oh yeah, and trolls and people who flame easy targets like bronies and ponies because it's "cool" to hate what's "lame", la la la. The bottom line though is...who cares?

Im 13 and my friend turned me on to the fandom, I thought it was weird at first. But then I fell in love with it, I don't understand why people take hating on bronies to the extreme. Because the only reason I like the show and the fandom. Is because Its about making friends and being happy, and thats what I believe the world needs. Does anyone else feel the same?

Because according to society, we are weird. Really, why do people think anything is weird? Because it's not normal. However, sometimes being normal is not all good.

Mainly because like Scootalove said people think Teenagers and Grown Men should be watching other TV shows that are on channels like BET, TNT etc. instead of the hub. But of course society is stupid and thinks everyone should like the same thing. I go through the same thing in high school but unless they have a brain tap machine they can't change my mind.

Well, just like any other social group that goes against the norm; homosexuals, transgender people, athiests, furries, and the like, there are going to people who object to the fact that you refuse to conform to their standards of normal. It's just intolerance really, nothing you can do about it, unless we advance collectively, as a species, we will always have bias, racial intolerance, social intolerance, bigotry, racism, etc.

Well to answer the question from what I've seen on my own behalf, I can guess why some in general folk might be 'haters' on bronies. The only thing I tend to notice (but comes with the territory in being a fan of something) is that some fans can get a little carried away with their franchise and can be overly offended by others who disagree with them.

That said, this in my opinion is no different to say a Trekkie getting offended by someone who doesnt understand their love of the franchise. Why is it so hard for people to accept that there are guys as well as girls that like a specific franchise? To be honest though I dont fully understand the term of Brony means unless it means basically a guy who is a fan of the MLP FiM franchise bluntly to the point. Thing is though I embrace the fact that men nowadays, gay or not embrace the franchise for what it is and doesnt see it as a simple kids show or something for 3yr olds or just for girls period. The show talks about morals of friendship, love and cooperation even, things that should be educated in real life all the time, because lets face it, our society is far from being cooperative with everyone or everybody in complete harmony right?

Now to be fair, I am a female, I have always been a pony fan since I was a little girl who saw Firefly's Big Adventure. But I was also a fan of dinosaurs, dragons, monsters, robots, and as time went on, I became a huge Aliens fan as well as a Predator fan. Should I be critized for loving franchises that are mainly targeted at the male population too then? Though again to be fair, I was targeted by men when I played in Aliens vs Predator 2 PC video game. Many guys were shocked a girl be in this game or of the fact she'd be so good at it, but I was. As a result two things would happen, they'd either embrace it, or they'd see it as an opprotunity to be sexiest, going as low as saying 'You should get back in the kitchen and make your husband a sandwich and leave the real hunting to real alien and predator players' to naturally my response was to hand their butts to them on a silver platter with a score of 100 to 20 kills lol!

I guess my point is, ya we can get carried away with our franchises, but who doesnt? Its no different to a Trekkie loving his/her Star Trek to is an Alien fan that loves his/her Alien franchise. Gender or not there shouldn't be biased gender slander going around about how a man or woman should love a specific franchise.

I'm just a silly little alicorn, trying to get by in the fandom ^^
