Rarity Paige Belle 1,854 June 16, 2014 Share June 16, 2014 Everyone in the Fandom calls her Tia, but in the Journal of the two sisters book, Luna calls her Celie, which do you prefer? That One Techpriest You Used To Know 2,286 June 16, 2014 Share June 16, 2014 Tia's always been a thing, but... wait, that's canon? Welp, time to change the headcanon.
Nameless Knight 1,001 June 16, 2014 Share June 16, 2014 whatever is canon so i guess Celie "I had a name... forgot it many, centuries ago. It faded away like many things, but me. Jaref 344 June 16, 2014 Share June 16, 2014 (edited) Celestia is a lovely name, don't think it needs to be shortened Never liked "Tia" but "Celie" doesn't sound very natural. How would you pronounce it? Celly? Not feeling it... If you pronounce it like Céline Dion, it sounds pretty nice! Fleur De Lis 108 June 16, 2014 Share June 16, 2014 I think "Tia" sounds nicer than "Celly"... I'd rather just call her Celestia than Celie, though. >.>
UserNotFound 964 June 16, 2014 Share June 16, 2014 I think it's sweet that Celestia had a nickname makes me wonder if Luna had one too... I quite like Celie personally but I usually refer to her as Celestia .
Lume WMj 228 June 16, 2014 Share June 16, 2014 There was a character named Celestia Ludenberg in an anime I watched recently, Danganronpa, and her shortened name was Celes. I thought it sounded pretty neat, so now I always associate the name Celestia with Celes. :3 But oh man, Sunbutt... That sounds even better!! Ashen Pathfinder 16,161 June 16, 2014 Share June 16, 2014 For some reason, 'Tia' never really fit Celestia, IMO. I much prefer Celie as it just seems more natural. AppleLover 146 June 16, 2014 Share June 16, 2014 I like tia. Not for any particular reason, it's just the only nickname I hard for her. Thank you Pink Mist for this amazing signature! SeraphStar 398 June 16, 2014 Share June 16, 2014 I say Tia, it feels more natural to me (given that is what I've always referred to her in shorthand by). Celie just sounds too weird to me; so it's gonna be Celestia, Tia or her official title "Mary Sue Sunbutt" for me. ♪If I could find you now, things would get better, We could leave this town and run forever, I know somewhere, somehow we'll be together, Let your waves crash down on me and take me away♪ ~Yellowcard Bangarang, Peter Pan. Fhaolan 4,483 June 16, 2014 Share June 16, 2014 Shortened names are usually nicknames. You can have more than one. For example, my name gets shorted to Fhao or Fae depending on who's doing the shortening. Or sometimes just 'Hey you'. The advantage of 'Tia' is that it's already used as a short name for 'Cynthia' and is a name of it's own, of Spanish origin (meaning 'aunt'). So calling Celestia, 'Tia' would actually be pretty appropriate for any of the ponies that Celestia has 'adopted' as nieces/nephews over the millennia like Cadance. It could have easily entered common parlance from there. Celly on the other hand sounds like a sibling nickname. It's a bit harsher sounding (only a step away from calling her 'Celery', in my opinion), and can be twisted to be pronounced in a fond way, or an irritated way. mars 4,862 June 16, 2014 Share June 16, 2014 Everytime I hear 'Tia', I just think "aunt". So I always find it funny because Luna is basically like "Aunt! Aunt!" when she says "Tia! Tia!" in videos and fanfictions. I do call her Celly though, which I guess can also be written as Celie. So It's fine.

ggg-2 3,553 June 16, 2014 Share June 16, 2014 ^^^^ The fact that Cadance often calls her Auntie Tia in fanfics means the funniness has been doubled. Don't be a nerd. Join the herd!
Adorkable 2,737 June 16, 2014 Share June 16, 2014 I've always heard it as "Tia", never really the other name. So, I guess I prefer it over any. ^^
Sapana 66 June 16, 2014 Share June 16, 2014 I really, REALLY dislike "Tia" as a nickname for her. Celie is much better IMO, though I prefer calling her by her full name. "Sunbutt" I don't find amusing at all because I feel its funniness has been played out. But that's just me being a stick in the mud.
