A Brony Tale (documentary feat Ashleigh Ball)

This documentary is nearly out when it is I'd like to discuss opinions on it here.

What do you think of the concept of this documentary. Are you going to see it?

I plan on reviewing it if I can find a version to watch of it online.

Huh... Hitting theaters, I see. Yeah, I'm not even sure if it'll come over to my region at all. Since a trailer wasn't provided...

"A brony refers to a male, aged 13 - 30, who is obsessed with the cartoon show My Little Pony".

>obsessed

Well that's rather ominous...

Another thing that caught my attention is when Ms. Ashleigh Ball said how her "pervert alarm went off" when she "first heard" about bronies.

Well, ultimately it's one thing to be wearing costumes and props at a convention but a whole other thing to be wearing such things in a casual setting. Just keep that in mind.

I saw the trailer, it certainly looks interesting.

"It is part of a good man to do great and noble deeds, though he risk everything." - Plutarch

"As long as humans continue to be the ruthless destroyer of other beings, we will never know health or peace. For as long as people massacre animals, they will kill each other. Indeed, those who sow the seed of murder and pain will never reap joy or love." - Pythagoras, Greek philosopher, ca. 530 B.C.

This looks interesting enough, and I wouldn't mind giving it a watch sometime in the future. I enjoyed the netflix bronies documentary, and this one looks pretty decent too.

I've seen the trailer before.

Not sure what I think at this point.

Some of the language they use sounds foreboding though. The whole "Bronies are searching for something to give them meaning" thing is definitely unsettling.

>Pevert alarm

Wow Asheleigh Ball that was the footage you LEFT IN for the trailer. I wonder what the outtakes would be:

'When I first heard about bronies I thought they where a bunch of creepy man-children and paedophilles'

CUT let's try that again Ashleigh

Also why the fuck do they pick the most spaghetti dropping looking wierdoes to be in these films. I mean that fat guy and I'm not trying to be rude here but he looks severely autistic not to mention all the other people are all the creepy looking ones that wear pony stuff at the wrong venues.

/mlp/ and horse-news.net is going to have a field day when this thing hits, and so am I. It looks disrepectful, amateurish, and beyond everything pointless. There is no narrative nor is there any hint of actual journalism it's just pointing a camera in freaks faces, with a few psuedo famous people to break up the freak footage.

Hopefully better then that but again we may get another documentary that doesn't match the fandom well. If the previous was too coddling this one MAY be too sensationalist. It will be hard to say without seeing it first. I too am very TIRED of seeing scary looking fat autistic guys in cross-dressing cosplay respresenting us. It's just embrassing having these people be THE go to visualization and go to image for a brony. They may be harmless fellow fans but they certainly be what everyone imagines every one of us to be. It seems that press are just drawn to these guys.

We may as well accept it now THIS is very soon going to become the go to face for bronies everywhere. I for one will be watching this film as soon as it comes online which hopefully will be BY monday. I've got a 'may as well get this shit over with attitude'.

Saw it already. Went to a World Premiere of this documentary back in April at the Tribeca Film Festival. I will not spoil anything, but I will say that it is probably one of the best ones out there.

This guy doesn't even look that bad.

I got a pretty good vibe from the trailer. I felt like it showed some weirdness in the fandom (because, lets face it, its a little weird) but didn't put it in a negative light.

and yet I did not see one mention of female bronies

I like documentaries, and I like ponies. So I'll probably be watching this. Not in theaters. Maybe if it goes on Netflix.

I am disappointed that she thinks that way. I am also concerned overall by what I am hearing about this documentary. I feel that it is meant to showcase negative aspects of the fandom to discourage it from growing. The unconventional fans can't let ourselves be treated and represented like this. It's wrong.

Well i think a lot of people (especially women) when they first encounter us DO think that. I'm not going to give a person grief because that's what they initially thought as it's an honest statement in dealing with an unknown community. I'll be mad if they continue to think such things however and I don't think the movie is going to show us in that light either. The trailer may try to pique people's interests in finding out more so I would keep that in mind.

Let's not jump to conclusions for a movie that we havent seen yet. I doubt one of the voice actors was invloved in making an anti-brony movie. That would be stupid.

Go find furries to talk to. They've been around for much longer and I'm quite sure they've endured worse. If anyone could comment on this situation, it's the long-time furries.

They've endured worse and they have a reputation to boot, constant accusations of being into beastiality and the like. That's what 50 years of being represented like this gets you, I don't want that for this fandom.

Ashleigh Ball stating her first impression was that bronies are peverts and this fat severely autistic guy in cross dressing pony gear.

You love and tolerate more than the 99% that's for sure.

I'm withholding judgement until I see it, but I thought the trailer looked promising.  I'm excited about seeing it.  I'm worried that it will be misrepresentative of the fandom, but we'll see.  Overall, I liked the trailer, but I too had kind of a sour look on my face when Ashleigh said "pervert alarm."  That was unfortunate.

That was my first impression of bronies too. Just because she said that, doesn't mean she still feels it. That's probably the whole point of the movie.

Also, stop calling that guy autistic because of the way he looks. That's pretty mean spirited.

agreed...but i would have preferred if Tara Strong wouldve been the actor (not favoring here) but taras view on bronies is probably the most amazing, accepting one out there (seeing as she has given to the brony community, and donated to certain causes) and it seems like a pretty good one...although i liked the first one i saw

There's still a lot of time left. Give it some thought."

He is autistic though. He's also male, Caucasian and overweight. Nothing mean about that. I happen to be several of these things myself and when people call me it they are just stating fact. Don't project so much.

The "male" fans of My Little Pony? The MALE FANS?????

What the frick Ashleigh? Are you serious right now? Are you seriously doing this to us???

Female and non-binary bronies get erased by every group out there, a fact that not only pains us but strongly supports the stereotype that male bronies (or just bronies, as they're called by people who erase us) are disgusting sexist pigs. To see such a blatantly false and detrimental statement made in such a huge way is nothing short of revolting, and if I sound angry, it's because I very much am. This fandom will continue to be despised until people get it through their thick skulls that Brony is a gender-neutral term, and a documentary contradicting that will make things so much worse.

Shame on Ashleigh, shame on the makers of this thing

And while I'm at it shame on the people here saying that this makes our fandom look "autistic" as if being autistic is a bad thing. Spoiler alert: it isn't.

/end rant

I'm actually interested in watching this documentary, but the only movie theater that has the documentary is San Diego's Hillcrest, and that's a little too far away in my standards. If they added a theater in south county I'd go. I'll wait for this to come out online or on DVD or something.
