Why do some bronies do this?

I imagine they do it because they want to?  Is this not the primary motivation in many human activities??  Does this really need to be analyzed???  Have you noticed that I've been adding a question mark with every subsequent question????  I don't personally Photoshop ponies into a picture with me.  If I want to be in a picture with a pony I will hold up a plushie or a brushable when said picture is being taken.  And besides, what need have I of a picture when Rainbow Dash is always with me?  Also...  I'm not great with Photoshop.

What problem?

This actually looks pretty creative.

I actually might want to do something like this now.

Thanks for the thread!

Why do people keep asking what the problem is? :P  He never said there was a problem, he asked why some bronies do this.

Here is my response:  Half of em are "fake n' gay" meaning that they were just created by anti-bronies with really neckbearded nerdy-looking guys as the main attraction of the photos.

For the other half:  I know a guy that convinced himself that he married Twilight Sparkle, so... In comparison this doesn't seem as "extreme."  Even still, half of this half does it for fun, the other half does it because they feel a connection with a specific character.

Because it looks cool, perhaps? I don't see any problem with it. I mean, sure, maybe if they were taking them as substitutes to relationships it would be a (big) problem; but by the the looks of things they aren't.

EDIT: Not trying to be angry, sorry if it came across so.

Playing devils advocate:    Why would it be a "(big)" problem?  As long as they're happy that's all that matters.

Uhm, no offence, but you ARE joking - right?

Substituting fictional characters for real life social interaction is a serious problem; albeit a rare one. The individual may isolate himself, and even become engaged to these characters (with the latter being extremely rare - luckily.)

One of the worst parts is: if the person is not helped soon enough, and marries the character, he will never have sexual intercourse - a natural process in human affairs.

It really doesn't need all that to explain it though, it's quite obvious - no offence

I don't think sexual intercourse is a necessity for happiness.  My relative just died at 84 from prostate cancer (no joke.)  He was a virgin, and he was perfectly happy throughout his lifetime.  (Actually he was the new husband of my Great Grandmother, so I don't know what that would make him.  Maybe like a great great stepfather or something?  It's whatever though, we all just called him uncle )

Just because you don't think this hypothetical person will ever engage in sex doesn't mean that they can't be happy.  And who's to say?  Maybe they have a large family and/or friend groop that love and support them regardless of their oddities.

If the media has convinced you that sexual intercourse is crucially important to one's happiness, you might end up like... ... um... ... ... ... ....  Elliot Rodger :c     Now I'm not sex-bashing.  Sex can be a tool for psychological bonding, and can help strengthen romantic relationships.

Sexual intercourse is a necessity to reproduce, not for happiness (although that is there. :P). Heck, if I though sex got you happy... Well I wouldn't be a virgin, would I.

This isn't a question of happiness, but mental wellbeing. This person could isolate themselves to the real world. Becoming largely attached to a character is not usual. While, in small portions, it is fine; feeling true love for it is not.

Well.  Not necessarily.  Sperm donors are a thing ;D

But you could apply the same argument against homosexuality in this case, as it is not necessarily conducive to sexual reproduction.

Moar devil's advocate:

Why is feeling true love for it not fine?  What if feeling true love for it makes that person content/happy?  It doesn't necessarily mean that they will be isolated from the real world.

In regards of some of those pics. I believe it's because they're afraid of being rejected yet again. A pony can't certainly reject you because of your cons or the way you look.

Look at most of this people. Do you think they're socially accepted? Maybe they've had a bad experience with other people. Many of them want to be accepted as they are, and so they try to recreate a situation when they're unconditionally loved by a fictional character, which lacks the capability to judge them. But the main problem is that they can't accept themselves many of times, so they want somebody else to accept them instead, simply because they can't love themselves. And as a result, many people end up dis-liking them as well.

No matter the way you look, If you're bright inside, you'll attract people to you. It's an interaction between bio-electromagnetic fields, interacting with each other, exchanging thought, information, even without talking. You become what you believe or what you fear. So, stay positive.

Apologies for my english, it isn't my first language.

geez im answering everything with "care to explain?" but

Care to explain?

Well, let's see...

  • Brony looks for someone to have a girlfriend with
  • Apparently, nobody loves him
  • Feels sad
  • If he goes that far, he becomes very depressed
  • Photoshops his favorite pony into one of his own pictures

I'm not sure how I can explain it further...

Getting attached to a pony to that extreme degree would be a symptom of isolation, not a cause. People don't go that far unless they already had nobody else. Reminds me of that volleyball from Castaway. Without human contact, people will create an outlet. In the case that you are describing, the pony would be that outlet and the photoshop is an expression of that. The picture by itself isn't a problem, but does reflect a much bigger problem within the individual.

I'd consider this case pretty rare, though. I think most of those people are just having a bit of fun.

Some of those articles make it sound like, this is a new thing. This has been around for nearly a decade, with a HUGE influx from the Sonic fandom, which spilled our along with recolor OCs, and edgy as shit OCs. But even before that, there was stuff like this, but it was on a smaller scale that it was nearly unnoticed.

Feel free to add me on steam if you want to play something. Also don't be afraid to message and talk to me. I've had bad luck when I start a conversation, so I more then likely won't start one.

Not everyone is confident and can get a partner. I can't get a girlfriend because I'm very shy, girls want men with male parts (Which I don't have) and tall (I'm short.) I have nothing a girl wants. Also, I'm afraid of looking for a girl because there really aren't many girls who are willing to date a man with a girl's body who is very sensitive, shy, can't hold a conversation in the real world, and may scream and yell at the smallest things.

I know I will never get a girlfriend or even have a chance at getting married, so I stick to fictional characters. Being friends with fictional characters helps me with my loneliness. That is why I still have imaginary friends at 18. I was never good at making any friends.

I honestly don't know what to say about this question. People do things because they want to, because they enjoy doing them, i do not think there is any greater reason than that.

Would you like to play with me? I'd like to play with you, forever, and ever, and ever! No... no you can't have it! It's mine! Stay back!

they do it probably cause their bored or they want to see ponies in real life. also like rush said, they want their waifu in real life. i used to do this. i did it cause it looked cool. i don't think the reason they're doing this is cause they are lonely but because they want to be creative

I cant believe you would mention that name here.

Like probably many said before me (didn't read every post XD sorry guys and gals) the main reason is probably lonelyness. You see no matter how much some try to deny it, we humans are extremely social creatures by nature. And nearly every human will try to socialize one way or another. If that's not possible with other humans, because they have a social disorder for instance they'll try it in another way in this case with ponys and photoshop
