Could the Mane Six have special pony friends without jumping the shark?

I realize that on a lot of other shows when they start introducing love characters for the main protagonist(s) that's when the quality of a show starts to drip? Do you think they could bring in a love interest for the Mane Six without jumping the shark?

I don't think anyone involved in the show from Hasbro down wants to go there in a show aimed at preteen children, so it's a moot point.

If they actually do, rather than jumping the shark, I think it will signal the imminent ending of the series.

I don't even think it's possible. The reason I didn't like Equestria Girls is because of Flash Sentry. The movie could've gone without him! I'm getting off topic. My point is, I just hope they don't give them love interests.

I think as long as the character is well developed and not a complete bolt from the blue, as long as the pairing displays actual chemistry through more than one episode, I'd be okay with it.  I think it would be kind of awesome if one of them had a boyfriend or something.  Probably Rarity, since she's shown the most interest in that kind of thing in the past.

I think that the only legit ship could possibly be Spike/Rarity (Which would be awful as we all know!) But that's about as far as it should go. They have of course touched on love with the Hearts & Hooves Day episode and well, Cadance and Shining Armour got married. But I believe that's about it. I would certainly be put off from the show if this was to happen, I don't know about anyone else but it seems kind of unnecessary if you ask me.

I dont know about the mane six but they could explore the Big Mac Cheerilee relationship some more. So far the only males really interested in the mane six are not ponies or are terribly flat. I would love some more exploration into the spike x Rarity and Fluttercord ships though.

I could see something as stark as Fluttershy openly admitting "fondness" or "special somepony" to a speaking onscreen character being a possible character opportunity, as long as the appearance is limited to brief snapshots or momentary reminders every few episodes. Like how Spike can teleport messages by burping fire.

They had Rarity fall in love with that one dude in that one episode which I can't remember the name of.

Spike has a crush on Rarity and such.

I think they could pull it off, they've been seem to doing it well, when they do actually show it.

Narp

After the way they handled f*cking Flash Sentry (more like...Trash...Sen...Stupid), I don't trust them at all to handle full-one romance, especially if they bring out random a$$ people from our of nowhere to pair them with (since I can't imagine they'd be with any current canon character) and expect us to react to it as a believable scenario.

Urgh, I would hate for them to have love interests. It just seems like something they don't need. If it does happen, I am sure there will be ALOT of complaints about it. Normally when they get love interests, the show is about to end. And I'm almost sure nopony wants that to happen.

Though it's not totally necessary, it does have the possibility to work, as long as they don't make it a one off thing like some shows do (they fall in love, start dating and then it just seems to not exist anymore) and not have it happen all in one episode unless they really have a valid reason for the speed, such as a spell or that the episode represents a longer period of time. Even if it is a random character who pops out of nowhere, as long as they take their time to make up a believable excuse reason for the Mane 6 character to love them (and vica versa) and not have it all stereotypical and cheesy, it's totally fine to me. As long as it does not disrupt the main storyline and does not have a bad impact to young children (and doesn't make bronies cry in pain), I think that if a canonical Mane 6 ship occurred, I would be fine with it.

Despite the above paragraph, I still don't encourage a Mane 6 ship to actually happen. The show is perfectly fine the way it is. I am just saying that I'm not going to be particularly upset (unless it is really horrific, hopefully that doesn't happen) if it does become canon (in fact I might even be happy about it, who knows?)

I feel that love interests are way too much an issue with popular culture.

I'd rather have a show which dealt with a poor special someone (like Blueblood [yech!]) than a successful one.

But I'd rather it be an arc than an individual, "hi guys look at my coltfriend isn't he great, and I got a bruise too, what, dump him ok." show.

Kinda like For Better and Worse dealt with it.

I would not be comfortable with any of them dating in the show.

Leave that to fanfictions.

Developing a crush like Twilight in Equestria Girls I don't mind, but taking it any further would just... ugh.

A show would normally have romance because it's an easy way to have entertaining writing.

Unfortunately Every show (and yes I mean just about every show) has done it to death. Making it cheesy and overused. Just about every Hollywood movie does it as well.

In MLP if executed right, could be a really cute story. If done wrong, it joins the other guys in the cheap pile.

The writers for MLP are very good and if they did try a love story. I'm sure they would do it properly.

If they didn't, they would have A LOT of angry emails from bronies.

Actually they would probably get angry emails regardless.

Yes and No, I dont want to see relationships at all, but I would be utterly pissed if they did do relationships and went the homosexual route just to please the loud part of the gay community and force gay equality morals, Some bronies do want this and it is very annoying, Heterosexual relationships would be annoying because unless it is built up over several episodes or an entire season the the relationship will not feel pure.
